  1.

TL:DR version: Here is a good example for a first resume from the link below...

    http://jobsearch.about.com/library/samples/blhsresume2.htm

Now, BELOW I go into GREAT DETAIL about how to go about this, so use the example above and read on as I will try to explain how to go about this.

Focus on a basic 1 page resume, since I feel it would be easier for you then making a CV (Curriclum Vitae). CV would be longer in length, and gives a lot of details. So a basic resume would be a good start.

OK, your first resume is usually the hardest to write, due to the fact that writing your first resume usually has no job experiences listed on it, for someone so young. So From the top, list your name, town, state, contact information (phone, and e-mail). Next you want to list under "Education", where you are currently going to school. (You mentioned you are 16, so I assume this is high school.) List the FULL NAME of the high school you go to and the year you STARTED to go and the expected graduation date. (You could also put down the "YEAR #### - Present" as an alternative, if you are still in school.)

As a side note, I would suggest to make a separate E-mail, used ONLY for jobs. So, make this E-mail a professional looking one.

Example: yourname@yahoo.com, so if your name is John Doe, put in "JohnDoe@yahoo.com. Or JohnD@yahoo.com.

You DO NOT want to use an e-mail that looks like you just made up a name, like ponyPUN 2354@yahoo.com. To them that looks unprofessional and the idea is, in a big E-mail database, it is easier to look up your name if that E-mail with your resume came from an E-mail Address that is similar to your name.

Next Section I would put down experience, however you do not have any, so I would skip this. Instead focus on your current Academic Awards, which you should put under "achievements". Some Examples would be perfect attendance award (along with the year you received it), Scholarships, "Best student of X activity" and so on. Do not underestimate the power of such rewards, since employers like the idea that a young person has the ability score so high at such an early age. Also putting down good attendance award, shows the employer that you have a good record of coming to work/school on time and ready to do your job.

Moving on, I would STRONGLY suggest to do some volunteer work, so you can start claiming experience in a related field, in which the employer is looking for. You may not get paid, but you do gain experience and employer like the idea that someone as young as you is willing to dedicate time to learn on something you like doing.

So being you have no Experience as a volunteer, then no worries for now, just keep in mind that volunteer work is not just learning about a given job, but also help you network and give you an edge on getting a job you want, if someone is willing to help ya out in the job department. So I would suggest to try to do some volunteer work for charities, to help build on your resume. so being you are very young, they can forgive you for not have a lot of experience in the first place.

You said that this is a sportswear shop and you don't know what this job entails. So I would suggest in the next sections, you should list your interests/activities that you do. A sportswear shop would be looking for an athletic and/or sports fan. So putting on your résumé of how you play sports like football, basketball and so on, shows you have a genuine interest in the profession at this store and it being a sports, store, you will feel more motivated to help customers out who share similar interest in sports.

If you are not athletic, then the alternative is to show them you have an interest in sports in general. (I.E, Do you like watching sports on TV?) They are going to look for people who are INTERESTED in sports, cause people who are interested in sports are more motivated to work in a sports store vs., someone who hates sports, so they do not just see it as another paycheck. Employers are going to be picky in this job market, so its best to make it look like you are the "best" fit for the theme and position of the store. Dont' be afraid to ask questions, but ask questions on what the position entails and what they are looking for.

Finally your skills section, so what are you good at? Put things down that are related to the position in which you are applying for. So being you do not have much information on the position, I can't go into too much specifics. however some examples of some skills you could put down are things like....

    1) Proficient at time management

    2) Patient with people

    3) Observant

    4) Quick learner

Remember! These are only examples, so if you put them on your resume, be prepared to explain EACH trait and give EXAMPLES of why you feel that these personality traits/skills are your core strengths. Employers are looking for you to BACK UP what you put on a resume. So here you would be including your personality traits.

As for the interview, try to save your questions for the END of the interview, the only question you should ask at the beginning (cause you don't know what this job entails yet) is to ask "In detail, what is this job and what do you need someone to do in this position?". Wait for them to explain it, and save your questions for the end. DO NOT interrupt them, let them finish their explanations, cause they may answer some of your questions in which you might have.

Finally, If you get more details about the position, feel free to come back and tell me and everyone else about it, so we can all further assist you. The more details about the job description, the better me and anyone else can help you out.

I didn't get my first job until, I was 18, due to so many employers, only wanted to high people at 18 or up. So perhaps you will get more lucky then me.

Thanks for this advice, although the sportsware job opportunity went quicker than I imagined I'll still be looking. Nevertheless this is a lot of great info you've given, a lot more than expected (then again, I didn't know what to expect). So thanks for this as it should be really useful!
  2. First question: Inbetween revising for exams, I've found my first possible job at 16 at a sportsware shop not too far from here. I'm just wondering what to expect, do I show off my personality traits? They haven't specified what sort of job it will be until I go there so what do I write in my CV (resumé)? Some advice would be great!

  3. Warning: bit of a gory story

Well for some reason when on holiday in Italy with familly; I tripped over on some stairs in Pomeii and somehow managed to rip of a chunk of flesh off my big toe. It was hanging off a bit of skin still attached to my toe. I was so confused how this was even possible that I just laughed. By the way, it wasn't as bad as it may seem; I didn't need to go to the hospital and my body sorted the problem out within three days.

  4. Well, I've got in it:

    - a stereo and a load of CDs that my parents don't need anymore.

    - a PS2 and TV along with about 2 dozen games and whatnot.

    - a whole lot of books

    - some posters including "Keep Calm and Carry On" (now a bit of an over used meme), the London tube map (which is also useful for days out) and the Season 3 Bleach main characters.

    - an awesome lamp

    - a Mac from 2005 (which can't even run Chrome), a Lenovo thinkpad (Not Bad), and a titan of a Toshiba Laptop.

    - A bed (single)

    - 10, this is hard for a small room

    - a copy of Hokusai's "The Great Wave"

    - a framed cover of one of the Animerica magazines (this one with "Spirited Away" on the front.)

And a window and that's about it. So yeah!

  5. To be honest, what does it matter? (At least on the internet) There's a lot worse stuff out there and what people think about when pleasing themselves shouldn't really consern us. I don't want you know what people are thinking in that situation, do you?

So don't worry, because oppessing peoples thoughts has a certain name to it. It's called a lack of free speech!

  6. It's just been Sleeping Dogs for me and it's the first properly mature game if ever properly played and the story's pretty decent. Also the action is mad and brilliantly violent (never thought I'd say that.) It's also been free at the moment on Xbox Live Gold as part of the "Games with Gold."

A friend of mine has also left round the first Assassin's Creed and Borderlands 2 but I've been too busy playing Sleeping Dogs! :P

  7. No one wants to accept that theyre strange, particularly this fandom. Everything done is viewed as normal inside the fandom, and outside, its viewed as weird and steange, but the fandom labels that as 'hating'. So, what else could a strange fandom in denial of its weird practices do?

    Bash another fandom, of course.

It's not just wierd fandoms which do this. Most people would view another group of people for the out of the ordinary stuff about them. For example, you are not likely to remember Indians for their vibrant culture and beautiful country, you would probably think of them working at call centres or their broken English.

Going off topic, furries are great people (I should know, I'm one of them*) and you shouldn't hate on them just because their fandom gets featured in proper video games or whatever.

    *Cockiness is for comedic effect.

  8. [Warning: Explicit Post Below]

Two main things have been annoying me recently. The first being f***ing fedoras worn stand alone. The premise of wearing a fedora is to get a vintage look and feel to how you look. If you just wear it by itself, you're defeating the purpose of using it to look stylish. Worst of all, you look like a twat and you're bring the sofistication of the fedora down with you. Just. Please. No.

The other thing is American English spellings. I understand that different spellings and words are used generally as part of the diversities of different countries, but when there's language settings stating American English is the main type of english, No. NO. You shouldn't have that power. It's our f***ing language so give us the recognition. Doesn't help when this is an American forum and fandom. Goddammit, I should just become a massive Whovian and get news from the local newspaper. (I don't know, it's a rant.)

  9. I dunno. I don't really care too much any more. I post when I can and when I'm in the mood and bothered. I'm probably better known than I think I am but it's really hard to tell on a forum. That goes saying for most of the others on the thread. Even though people may not interact with you that much or at all, it doesn't mean they don't notice you.

  10. You cannot easily evade a bullet. Let's take the semi-automatic 9mm pistol, the Beretta M9, and say someone shot at you with it.

The bullet fired from a M9, travels at 281 meters, or 1250 feet, per second, you're not gonna dodge that bullet. Simple science.

I think what they meant was at close range. For example if someone were to try to mug you, it would be a lot easier to avoid a knife being swung than a gun being shot, logically. One can only stab as far as the arm can reach; if they were to throw the knife, it would be a different matter which I don't know much about. A gun can be used up to a lot further as of the bullet being able to travel a lot futher depending on the gun.
  11. Well for a start, almost everyone's Asian!!! And not oriental Asian, the Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/etc Asian. It's certainly made my life interesting, being a White English boy with no religion. It does make it harder to fit in, but it's part of me, I guess.

The social system is one of circles. Depending of what form class you started in/primary school/if you like football (european version to clarify.) There aren't any bullies in our school, suprisingly. Though there's plenty of know-it-all arseholes who'd greet you with a 'what.'

I'd fit into the 'Hipster' group but I get along with most people. My mates and I, like US drama, geeky stuff and going to the local corner shop at lunch to get meal deals.

Oh wait! *gasp* . I've revealed too much. *Leaves*

  12. Hey, I believe you're the first part-Australian I've seen yet. Man, I'd really like to see Australia, and I mean see it, not just look it up on Google Earth. smile.png

Well if you've got the money to get there, it's well worth your time. The wildlife is unbelievable, with even just Kangaroos being a common as foxes. Also, the food there, in Sydney inparticular, comes from all over the world. Last time I went was back in 2008 so I don't remember the food to well but I remember the ice cream was exquisite.

Sorry if I went on a bit too much.

  13. For me it's pretty much all White British. Not too interesting except that I'm 1/8th Australian. I think one of my ancestors was on the first few ships to Australia, before they started sending criminals but that's about it.

  14. High School relationships, eh? Well I haven't started dating yet and I'm in the last year of high school so that side of things seems a bit too rushed for me. I'm not so keen on anyone in particular so I'm not sure where to start (except this girl who loves Japanese culture but I'm pretty sure she's taken.)

I want to try something by the end of the year as from what I've heard, high school relationships are normally short and can help one discover stuff about themselves and of course there's the appealing love side of things. This making it a good opportunity for a first girlfriend. Though it's a shame I don't know where to start...

    Still, I'll manage something.img-1379355-5-xtWXQl1.png
