Like you said, these could be wholly detrimental, however I feel that if we present the opportunity he can make up his mind on whether or not he believes it would help him, alongside us trying to understand it.
However I agree that prescribing a conclusion at this time would be premature, and so I only wish to provide some tips to get him going, as to keep him going, a painkiller I suppose you could say if you wished.

@Starlight, I can sympathise with your point entirely, however labelling it as G&T wasn't my aim at all :'3
I was simply trying to understand the scenario by putting up some examples, however it was inutile I suppose.
I do not wish to be conclusive, as you've said, I simply wish to show him alternatives through which he can follow if he wishes.

However, Zygen has listed symptoms not dissimilar from a common G&T (Gifted and Talented) pitfall.
Earlier in his life, he may not have had to work to achieve, but now as he ages, he finds himself falling behind.
Of course, as you said, this may not work for him, but his work ethics problem is a valuable point to ameliorate, and so I feel that through that he can get closer to his wishes.
