I have always been an avid Les Stroud fan, having watched his show Survivorman on the Discovery Channel since its debut in 2004.

    Now that's a KNOIFE!

With that said, you could imagine how ecstatic I was to find out that he has since returned for 4 more episodes in what is to be the fourth and final season of Survivorman.

Now, I have mad respect for this guy. He ventures off to some of the most remote and dangerously unforgiving corners of our beautiful planet to survive alone for an extended period of time (7 days in the first 3 seasons and 10 days in the recent 4th). He carries his own camera equipment and has to make all the camera shots and angles by himself while trying to survive out in whatever harsh environment he's in! Name one other guy who does that. Didn't think so.

In contrast to this, and I am sorry I am bringing this guy up, but the comparison of Les Stroud to Bear Grylls just doesn't seem fair. Stroud is on a whole 'nother level.

    "Hey, got anything to drink?"

Now, I'm not discrediting what Grylls brings to the table. He's former British Special Ops with numerous survival escapades under his belt. And while there is no doubt that Grylls definitely possesses knowledge relevant to his (now defunct) show Man Vs. Wild, I felt that he often misled his viewers on some of the scenarios presented, among other things as well.

Stroud's medium of wilderness survival seems more genuine and perhaps more practical. You can google "Les Stroud vs. Bear Grylls" and be faced with an onslaught of arguments supporting both sides. It's just my personal opinion that Stroud is better at what he does.

Anyway, I'm gonna go buy some mussels, have dinner, and watch the latest Survivorman where we find Les combating the brutal Nowegian wilds.

    Bon apipetit!

Dinner is served! 'Til next time.

Ahoy, avast, shiver me timbers, and all that jargon.

    And BOOM! goes the booty!

So, a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine had bought The Pirates! Band of Misfits on blu-ray and we happily sat down and watched it. Now, I remembered the trailers to this movie way back when and was wickedly excited about it, but I had completely forgotten it existed soon after, up until my friend had purchased it. I know. I'm such a phony, landlubbing buffoon.

Anyway, the movie was spectacular and full of fantastic witty humor, as I expected from any Aardman film. I'm no stranger to their work; having watched Wallace and Gromit in my younger days and having loved the characters, the writing, the humor, and of course, the animation.

Wallace with his charismatic smile and Gromit with his silent suave. Good stuff.

Claymation, and stop motion animation in general, had always interested me and is a vital reason I am pursuing a degree in animation. Films like the Wallace and Gromit franchise and the Tim Burton classic The Nightmare Before Christmas helped pave the road that led me and many others interested in the genre.

So, the Pirates! film got me thinking. I decided that I eventually wanted to make a stop motion film using some sort of puppets reminiscent of Nightmare and Coraline. With my creative juices flowing, I came up with the basis of a short film project that involves robots, space soldiers, intergalactic space ships, barren planets, intricate model designs, and a main character with a rockin' mustache. Of course, this is all hypothetical and not something I would want to tackle until I was ready, which I am not, sadly

    That sweet, sweet creative juice.

So, a couple of days ago, two friends and I traveled to the quaint college hipster town of Northampton, MA. There, we found a delightful comic book shop by the name of Modern Myths. I was able to browse and get a feel of what current graphic novelers and comic book writers and illustrators are doing with there pieces. I also found some great favorites of mine while there and quickly bought them without a moment's notice! Here are some of them:
Lookouts by Ben McCool and from the minds of Penny Arcade (Mike Krahulik & Jerry Holkins).
Nonplayer by Nate Simpson. A beautifully drawn comic with an interesting premise.
Copper by Kazu Kibuishi. My favorite author/ illustrator, who is also writes and draws the Amulet series.

Welp, that's all I got for now. I'm gonna go and work on my own stuff, and I'll hopefully have an update here soon after. Unitl then...

    My very first entry! Hurray!

Well, there's quite a bit I want to type about, and since I currently don't have a dedicated external blog at the moment, this'll do just fine!

I'm gonna be talking about a whole mess of things in this here blog. From A to Z. Anything and everything. You get the picture!

Anyway, yeah. At some point or another you may have heard me saying that I'm working on a digital graphic novel called "Master of the Horse". If you haven't heard of this before, now you have! Hurray ! This particular comic will take place within the MLP:FiM universe, but feature original characters and settings! I've got the first chapter sketched out in my head, and I am in the process of putting my ideas on the 'ol endless canvas.

I suppose a little explanation of the story's history and plot would be cool, huh? Okay, here it is:

With that all said, Ignatius summons his champion and the supreme commander of his fleet, a valiant pegasus named Jet Pulse. The first book will follow Jet and his duties in leading his King's forces to war against the Griffons.

Here are some sketches of Jet Pulse!

    And here's King Ignatius:

There's more to come, I assure you.

    'Til then, stay flamin'!
