I think human Fluttershy might be more adorable,. but I dislike what they did to Rainbow Dash. They kind of made her look (and act)like a nasty "bad girl." Her eyes seem really cruel to me.

When all else fails, as you said: rainbow powers activate. No friendship lessons, or at least not one every episode ala season 3, it seems they are moving away from that anyway so I'm not too worried. I also really hope they don't have too many episodes mostly about one character in succession, if there's one thing the show really needs to work on it's that, and I hope they tried to work on that at least.
