  1. I personally haven't been to Sega Forums, but I have been to Sega-16, which is for fans of the Sega Genesis. Warning: do not dare insinuate that 1995 isn't when the game industry completely and irreversibly died. Don't even insinuate that a game made beyond 1995 has potential, unless it's an original Genesis homebrew IP. Doubly so for Sonic games. I imagine Sega Forums would be worse, having more than just a major population of Genesis-era purists.

Still though, at least the conflict made the place feel lively.

  2. This is how I feel as well. I tend to do better with smaller communities which is why I only ever frequent one section of the forums but even then there's not much community to be had. Maybe some cliquiness but that's about it.

And the kindness that the community totes feels very forced. The "love and tolerance" motto is total bullshit and I feel it's a form of subliminal peer pressure. Too many people try to change who they are to fit better with the community.

If love or tolerance isn't a part of who you are, don't be that way. You're better off being natural.

I admit that Love and Tolerance is not a bad philosophy, but not if you see it as "be so kind and happy that your waste byproducts are at least 60% rainbow glitter", which it mostly seems to be. It's oddly alienating that way, at least in the way that it often ends up forming threads that are tens of pages, each repeating the same exact viewpoint. No actual discussion, nothing. I suppose I'd frequent smaller communities more if they didn't have a tendency to croak into a state of inactivity.

As it stands I'll stay here and pretend everything is alright.

  3. Despite this going against the very message of the fandom, I feel that people on the site act far too kind. A lot of times it has an unnatural vibe to it, as when a lot of people act too nice, the box of hammers that is my brain tells me that something is amiss. So I end up becoming a lot more cynical when I visit the site, compared to what I would say is an optimistic nature elsewhere. So I end up isolating myself in this broken us vs. them mentality. So much for friendship being magic, I guess.

Also I don't like forum roleplay or OCs, even though I have one for that specific purpose.

EDIT: On top of that, I'd say the sheer size of the community makes it feel like there is no community, just an amorphous mass of threads and messages under a web domain.

'Why not HyperNepulise my desktop setup as well?' is what I thought to myself, having done the same thing to my Steam profile some time before.

Oh, and speaking of Steam, I actually got the wallpaper from one of the trading cards I had (however the words 'Neptunia' and 'Steam' aren't part of the image, those are buttons I made, courtesy of Rainmeter).

Apparently I wasn't the only one with this idea.

    lFzR2Eg.jpgSuch a lovely coincidence.

  5. I have a fear of death, as I suspect most people do. However, my greater fears are on an increasingly larger scale.

I fear that I will eventually be forgotten, that there will be nobody to remember me. That no matter what I do, no matter what I become, I will eventually be less than a distant echo.

I fear that everything I have had a passion for will be doomed to the same fate.

Every single thing that humanity has ever striven for, has ever accomplished, has ever done... I fear it will all be lost.

One day, the Earth will no longer exist. Humans would have been long gone by that point. Every animal would be gone. Every plant would be gone. Every cloud, every drop of water, very speck of dust will be vaporized. The moon will be gone. Mars will be lost. And one day, the Sun will also end its life.

One day, even if it may be multiple eternities, the Milky Way will be destroyed, in a collision with Andromeda. And many more eternities after, the universe will end.

    Everything has an end...

...but none of that is going to measure up to student loans.

  6. When it comes to alicorn OCs, if I'm laughing after hearing their backstory, that either means that the writer was really good at writing an intentionally bad character or the character was hilariously bad.

If I'm not laughing, then that's worse than the OC being hilariously bad.

Alicorns are just the epitome of making your OC a special snowflake, you might as well marry them to one of the Mane 6 and have them dethrone Celestia while you're breaking every rule set by canon, narrative construction, and dignity.

I genuinely think that a good alicorn OC cannot be made, unless you find some way to justify it, and I've never seen an attempt come close.

  7. I've always been into chiptune, rock (of various prefixes), orchestral (not limiting it to classical), VGMs, and sometimes J-Pop. Oh, and that music made my screeching floppy disk drives.

Once I became a brony, I was obviously exposed to the brony music scene. So, dubstep, all that sort of EDM stuff.

    I hate it.
I still like what I've always liked, but I have a new distaste for all this EDM and dubstep that wears the label of "brony music". Oftentimes it fallaciously wears the label of "music", too.
