      It's literally the least stable operating system ever released. Why? Because even though it's based on MS-DOS (the last OS to be based on that actually), Microsoft decided to remove all the MS-DOS drivers and hide DOS as much as possible. What this lead to was indescribably bad instability.

       

      Open up IE, crash. Game crashes, OS crashes. CD fails to read, crash. Application crashes, OS crashes. Crash, crash, crash, crash, CRASH.

      Vista just had then-high system requirements and a new, immature driver model. By the time 7 came out Vista was very stable.
