  1. That was amazing advice! Here's some additional details that I hope are relieving: He stays human when he goes to Equestria, but his aesthetic changes to fit into the world's style. Don't worry, he's not "The Chosen One/Seventh Element" and he starts off pretty weak and unattractive. However, he is sucked into Equestria for a weird reason that exclusively applies to him. There's a decent balance for every character to be important. His adventure is very difficult and sometimes the "good" characters are unhappy with him, while "bad" characters respect and try to gain from him. I don't make him morally wrong and he's already smart/mature, but he's borderline socially incapable in Equestria and almost never solves conflicts by himself. Hopefully my bro's not too offended with me basing the main character off of him (BTW, he's my editor)! Anyways, I'm off to finish this thing!
  2. Thanks Feather Gem! It seems so simple, but this actually makes me feel a lot better. Do you post on Fimfiction? Please let me know when yours is finished. If it's not too long (like 100,000 words), I'll definitely want to check it out!
  3. You guys know I'm a girl, right? Anyway, I can see why my fic comes off as similar to Harry Potter, but that's coincidental. It's actually more inspired by GentlemanJ's "The Journey of Graves," just with mostly pony characters. By no means is this a self insert, but I put a little bit of myself in every character to make the flow of their conversations smoother. The human boy character is loosely based on my brother because to me, he embodies many of the traits for what I think of a brony. Sorry if I'm coming off as an attention seeker. The reason I'm posting is because I'm aware that my fic is a tad cliche. I'm sure a lot of us have imagined ourselves in Equestria, so my series is inteded to give my readers a semi-believable adventure for them to explore. Since this is the first time I've ever tried creative writing, I'm wondering if you can tell me how to avoid the common pitfalls found in these types of fanfics. Also, if I'm in the wrong forum, what's the more appropriate place to seek this kind of advice?
  4. A couple weeks ago, in an unexpected rush of inspiration, I came up with the outline for a seven book fimfiction series. I'm already 11,000 words into the first book and I expect it to end up being a little over 15,000 words. Last few days though, I've had some writer's block, but I think it's because I'm too unsure of how people will react to my work. Please tell me what you think from my vague descriptions: -It's an adventure series about a 23 year old human boy from our universe (but without the existence of the MLP franchise) getting sucked into Ponyville after the events in Equestria Girls. Our world is not the same as the Equestria Girls world because they just exist separately. -I gave the boy a backstory to make him smart and socially awkward, but he's supposed to be a role for readers to easily slip into. He's not a blank slate, but I think most bronies could see themselves in him. -Double Jump, my pony OC will be a character at some point! -The fic shouldn't conflict with future show canon as long as I upload the first couple books (at most) before the Season 4 premier. However, my fic is based on my interpretations of the show so far; i.e. I think the mane 6 are currently the Earth equivalent of 25-26 years old, and were about 22-24 when the show first started. -While there are occasional "shippings" between different characters throughout the series, it's not a romance per se. The series is mostly about adventure and will not have any explicit sex or gore. -The fic is intended to explore some of the more advanced themes within the show more deeply. Particularly, the differences between Earth and Equestria and how the boy learns to like pony society more than his own. I think some of these subtle themes contribute to why we bronies/pegasisters like MLP as much as we do. Whew, this post took a while to finish!
  5. I can see the show easily becoming twice as long as it currently is before ever getting stale. So, that'd give us 5-6 seasons at least. Beyond that, it's too hard to predict exactly what will happen, but here's what I think: 1. The show keeps going and remains a good, quality production. (I'd be happiest with this outcome) 2. The show comes to an end because VAs/writers/animators have to move on. Hasbro hadn't expected G4 to be so huge when it was green-lit, so they start working on a G5 with the intended set-up to allow for longevity. (I'd be sad, but alright with this happening) 3. The show is bought by Disney and gets lost in their mess of bad productions. (I really don't want this outcome) 4. The show drops off in quality, but keeps going. (This probably won't happen because you'd think most of the talent would've moved on at this point) We're not going to see any of this for a couple years, but I thought I'd put it out there. For now, just be excited for season 4! It'll rock!
  6. I wish more people would have the patience to watch TV shows in the correct order. Those who think that by starting at the end they aren't missing anything because it's a kids cartoon are DEAD WRONG! Anyway, now to answer the original question. If you can't get them to start from the beginning, at least don't let them start on an episode listed in this thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/72568-what-would-be-the-worst-episode-to-watch-first/
  7. It needs to be about 684 percent cooler!
  8. Regardless of whether or not this is supposed to be a "date", I'd take Pinkie Pie. The other members of the mane 6 would all be too busy trying to socialize with others, be it: Princess Celestia; The Wonderbolts; potential customers; handsome stallions; or animals. Pinkie Pie would probably enjoy my company and having someone there with her to have fun, even if nopony else wants to party.
  9. Back in my day, all these gol dern video game franchisers were jus' gettin' started. Almost everythin' was a new IP, fresher 'n me ma's baked cookies. We didn't need them internets to tell us what ter buy 'cause there were so many good 'uns out there. Nowadays, there aren't many new franchisers and when there are, they're worser 'n prune juice n' bran flakes for breakfas' on yer birthday. Where have the good ol' days gone off to? I dun wanna pay money fer DLC that should'a been on the game in 'a firs' place. I dun wanna play competitive multiplayer all 'a time. I wanna game I can enjoy fer months by me-self or with me bridge crew, not some reskinned FPS ya haff ter buy every year. Don't even get me started on achievables n' trophers. Some a' them Japanese games look ok if they ain't made by Nintender, but they either got bad voice actin' or too much text. My vision's not what it used ter be, so I dun wanna read or watch cutscenes ter play a game. Even though kids these days need ter respect their elders, Bethesder should make a new RPG that isn't Elder Scrolls or Fallout. I shoulda been asleep 5 hours ago. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.................
  10. Yeah, I'm starting to think you're right. Admittedly, I started this thread partially because I was curious to see if anyone experienced or witnessed a more awkward first impression of the series than my friend had. MLP is now and might always be my favorite TV show. There's not a single episode I wouldn't watch anytime, anywhere. I'm not blind to the show's flaws, but I find them charming rather than upsetting. That being said, from now on I'll try being careful not to make a thread that could be fodder for unnecessary criticism. I want to encourage people to watch the show, not turn them off to it.
  11. I really think you're onto something here! I don't know whether or not this is accepted as canon, but I read the MLP FIM comic series by IDW. Nightmare Moon's concept is further explored in the second set of 4 comic books. There's an ominous magical Darkness that took control of Luna and it makes a return. I encourage you to read it if you get the chance. There are still many unanswered questions, but you might find the comics helpful in solidifying your theory. If not, I guess there's always Season 4, which we already know will have a little more info about all this.
  12. You know, as far as "worst episodes to start with," it seems like most of us would agree that a lot of episodes in Season 3 really fit the category. Looking through those episodes, I might have to go with Sleepless in Ponyville as the least bad episode to start on in Season 3. Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite moments from the whole show are in that season and I love a story that builds on previous events. However, maybe Season 4 should bring a few brand new concepts into play. Then, if you're unfamiliar with the show and feel like starting on a recent episode, you'll still enjoy it and feel compelled to go back and watch previous episodes.
