Okay I don't know if this has come up before but since I haven't stumbled across it I'll share. So there are some things confusing about the Equestria Girls World like: * Celestia is reduced to a High School Principal. * Everyone has an exact Pony counter part for some reason. * The School is named after Equestria's capital. * Everyone seems to wear Cutie Mark Shirts * There are a myriad of horse puns and paraphernalia around. I've seen this brought up before and I think I have a explanation. What if the rest of the world has nothing to do with Equestria or any of that kinda thing. That they are your average multicolored humans with no ties to ponies. What if the only reason the town surrounding the horse statue portal is Equestria like is because of the portal. That the magic of the portal has somehow seeped through and its influence caused children to be born with Equestrian style personalities and styles.

Why do people say that Celestia is weak/cowardly?
ALIS replied to Rarity Paige Belle's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Well this is not an opinion I have come across in any seriousness, just jokes. Seems to be a lot of theories in this thread on this very minority opinion. Hmm I would say it is because fan works in this community has more than once gone on about how godly Alicorns are. On and on endlessly in comics and fanfics about their limitless power and how they can end the world by a mere thought... Then they get pwned by giant bugs and shrubbery in the show. Kinda throws a wrench in the headcanon. I personally like my Alicorns like they are portrayed in the show, moderately powerful. Big and tough with lots of magic but they can't just wave a magic wand and fix everything. They are the leadership, not the army. If you make Alicorns over the top then every threat has to be over the top, an army can't threaten Equestria if they can be Alicorned, it has to be some super bad who is 40 feet tall with laser eyes. So I like the current portrayal in the show where they have limits. Also... Poor showing, MLP Forum, such rude flaming in an area for discussion. /shakes head in disappointment. -
I like to imagine that the great irony is that she is actually better Equestria than the current rulers. Like she is still personally an evil jerk, just one who is really good at running a kingdom. Say if the Mane Six and Celestia travel to the Alternate Universe where Chrysalis won, in an attempt to defeat her and free Equestria from her tyranny. Instead they find she is a hooves off leader with a network of competent middlemen(drones). The changelings use advantages of a hive structure to fix Equestria's problems. They introduce a more democratic beehive approach ot decision making, eliminate threats within Equestria's borders like wiping out the diamond dog slavers or paving over the Everfree, they remove the inept members of the Nobility who inherited or bought their positions and replace them with experts, help level off wealth inequality between elites and normal ponies and defeat organized crime with a network of undercover changeling police. Sure their are changelings everywhere but it turns out being feed on isn't that bad at all and they aren't really mean. Everything runs smoother than before for the average pony. The shock on their face would be just awesome.

Princess or Alicorn - what's worse and what's better?
ALIS replied to Gary S.'s topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'll come out and say it, it bothered me and it still bothers me. Everytime someone says what is the big deal nothing changed I am reminded even more why I am bothered. She is a Princess in name only and it hasn't really been a big plot point. They made a massive change to a character, in a very average single part episode of a half season with almost no build up and than did almost nothing to follow up on that change. Everyone knows how this happened, Hasbro added Princess Twilight to their half season and left the writers scrambling to figure that mess out. To their credit they've been good at dancing around the cringe worthy aspects of Princess Twilight. That is why I don't like Princess Twilight and love the writers who pulled the show out of Hasbro's tail spin. I remember when the she'll become an Alicorn someday was a big joke that no one took seriously because it was just a lame direction to go in. Luckily the writers figured out the answer to this conundrum, make her an Alicorn then make it meaningless for all practical purposes. -
Would you like a Well-Intentioned Extremist as a villain?
ALIS replied to Mywas's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I like this idea. Let's see what I can come up with. I would love to see an episode where like fifty thousand changelings (not Chrysalis aligned) just plop down on some uninhabited Equestrian land (because the place is massive) and begin building a big city. They believe the land is theirs because no pony is living on it and when confronted for it they have zero respect for the Royal Pony Sisters or any rules or claims to the land they might have and refuse to submit to Equestrian rule or leave. The changelings begin to visit other towns where they take forms and feed on love. Some make friends and feed off them others go a bit to far impersonating ponies leading to tensions. To make things worse a sizable number of ponies don't like them for the wedding incident and the changelings are just as insulted as to be compared to them. Both sides begin to look down on each other. The ponies trying to invoke town laws that do not ban changelings in their towns or town ponies from meeting or befriending changelings hoping to starve them out. As tensions increase someponies propose they try to evict the changelings from their city. Some members of the Mane Six are for the eviction while the Princess's are on the fence. When the time comes to decide every Princess but Twilight votes to evict the changelings by force and they announce it to them an ultimatum to leave. A messenger of Queen Chrysalis shows up and to the ponies horror tries to make a deal with the changeling city to join forces against Equestria. The Princesses and Mane Six realize that if this would happen the war would be unbelievably bad. A standoff emerges as thousands of the new changelings start suiting up for war and Chrysalis's army whom are actually pretty evil approaches from the south. Now to the Princesses shock most of the new changelings whom stressed that they were different from Chrysalis now hate ponies. They hate ponies, for claiming and keeping all the good land to themselves after destroying the north and for their double standard of insisting that all changelings are monsters just because they look like an enemy yet so easily forgiving Luna / NMM whom tried to devestate the whole world twice including the changelings. Twilight convinces everyone that the ponies hatred for Chrysalis has caused the Equestrian Changelings to suffer and now the Equestrian Changelings hate is going to cause ponies to suffer back. That the coming war will hurt everyone. The only way to end the cycle is not to hate others just for who they are. the ponies that made changeling friends and vice versa stand up for each other and convince the crowds not to fight. In the end Celestia agrees to let them claim some of Equestria's unused land but they have to agree to respect fair Equestrian laws. The Alliance with Chrysalis is cancelled and her army is forced to turn around before reaching Equestria. The changelings create a peaceful city inside of Equestria. -
Yes it is always sad when the rich, castle owning folk surrounded by servents don't get the appropriate amount of respect. Like say in the form of castles and taxes. That is why they need to destroy the entire world by bringing eternal night. Because being wealthy just isn't good enough, can't the peasants just see that. ... Don't worry Princess your race and the power of nepotism will one day see you restored to wealth and power.

Okay so in the show every pony picks things up with their mouth, things like food, money, books, objects of all kinds. So through and average day in Ponyville you are liable to get some of twenty odd ponies saliva in your mouth or on your hooves / craws / paws just by picking up objects w/o magic. Quite a few objects in pony homes must have some dried saliva all over it. Quite a bit if it has been in circulation. Now you've gotten used to the taste and smell your own saliva and possibly your significant others but here is an experiment you can try to get that Ponyville feel in your own home: Pay a few dozen random people a couple of dollars to drool into a cup for a while. (vegetarian preferred.) Once you got like a liter of the stuff mix some of the cups up into different combinations. Smear a little bit of it all over hands, your food and your possessions and let it dry, Lick everything you would pick up with your mouth if you were a pony. Ask for saliva donations from friends or shop keeps so you can smear stuff they touched. Avoid being institutionalized. There you have it. You and your home now smells, tastes like and feels a bit more like Ponyville. Enjoy that thought folks.

Anyone else feel Chrysalis is overdue for a return?
ALIS replied to Jammo's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
My dream changeling episode doesn't involve Queen Chryslis at all except in name. Changeling fear grips Caterlot after a news story about Queen Chrysalis. At the same time the Griffon leadership are in Canterlot to sign an anti Chrysalis pact and Twilight and friends are both invited and very annoyed at the arrogant and acerbic Griffon leaders whom aren't particularly fond of ponies. The Mane 6 leave the castle for air and end up in Canterlot Square where a few changelings with a thinly veiled bad attitude show up to the city market to sell some things. Some of the Mane 6 are interested enough to take a look around their booth, the rest can't believe them. Then a mob of ponies chase them off. The next day the changelings return with five or six hundred of their closest pony hating friends to teach the mob of ponies a lesson. The shield goes up but the changelings have a spell that opens a hole and go right in. The Mane 6 try to retreat to the castle but a dark cloud surrounds of changeling magic surrounds it trapping the gaurds inside. Both the ponies and changelings realize independantly that they are trapped both inside the city but outside the castle the Mane 6. The angry changelings then start impersonating ponies, playing cruel pranks on the locals and spread paranoia. The ponies fight back however they can as changelings are captured, ponies are cocooned and both side rescue their comrades. The city is divided with the changelings controlling about half the city and both struggle for complete control. As this goes on some changelings and ponies begin talking to each other and realizing that they don't particularly dislike one another. The ponies learn the changelings can't get out of the city or into the castle either and are not more aware of what is going on then they are. A few of the Mane 6 (Fluttershy, Pinkie and Rarity maybe), some other Canterloters and some changelings set up an intergrated safe zone deviding the city again into 3 sections, changeling, pony and both. Twilight and the leader changeling try to keep their warriors and continue to fight for the city but more and more are defecting. Night falls as the angry factions sit on gaurd staring each others side of the city down as sounds of partying inside the ingrating section grow louder and louder. Eventually they realize that the friendship group is right and just as they all agree to find away to free the city from the spells keeping them there, suddenly the magic walls comes down. The Griffon visitor is a Changeling Queen who was signing the anti Chrysalis pact with Celestia. Her changelings wanted to side with the brute Chrysalis against the ponies that hate them and both the Queen and Princess Celestia knew that neither of their subjects would go for friendship between them so they set up their subjects to be forced together. In the end the pact is signed and the changelings and ponies agree to spread word of their friendships across the two kingdoms, and they state that they hope that one day Queen Chrysalis's changelings will learn the value of friendship even if she never does. Twilight's lesson is about when to fight and when to find common ground. -
So Trixie gets her hooves on the Alicorn Amulet which of course imbues her with great power but makes her need to control everything. She makes the ponies of Ponyville build statues and hang banners and call her pleasing names, which is basically Celestia's daily life. Luna felt that not enough ponies loved her like they do Celestia so she went nutso like Trixie. Celestia is loved enough that she has yet to go insane... That we know of. Moral of the story. Show the appropriate amount of inferiority to your Alicorn tinged with complete unconditional respect or they will totally kill you.

Finding and pre-defined are not inherently linked. If you couldn't find something that wasn't pre-defined then no one would ever find anything new. Once you're talented in something that something doesn't go away cutie mark or no cutie mark so talent could not be changed anyway. When you are a blank flank you have no special talent, when you figure out something you love more than anything it is grafted to you. It doesn't however mean you can't also be talented in and enjoy something else, just that your first big talent is magically connected to you. Pinkie is a baker, Twilight is Librarian. We know that once you get your cutie mark it is fixed and finding something does not mean it was already a part of you, just that you found it.

So when Rainbow Dash said: "You just can't stop that little guy. He's like a... like a... Tank!" everyone joked that tanks were canon... hmm canon? Party Cannon. Okay cannons exist but surely you need more then just a cannon to be a tank, like armor and machine guns to defend the vehicle. So an old cannon and metal, not that hard to make in even medievil times and spells are just a crude approxamtion of a complicated machine gun... The hard part is of course treads, an engine and a turret. That would be a lot harder. Wait! Yes the crane has an engine, treads, and a rotating arm that elevates and depresses. Not only are Tanks possible but you can make one out of just the crap lying around in Ponyville! My Little Pony needs a tank battle.

Because she would very much like to fly but the signs the show presents may suggest that she won't be able to and that makes me sad. It would make her sad as well to find she would never fly, she may get over it and live happy but it is still a sad thought. I had hoped this would be the episode where she would finally learn to fly. I am sad that she did not. I hope she does learn to fly soon.
-
Who said anything about thinking less of her, or questioned whether or not she is awesome. Hoping that this would be the she could fly episode has little to do with the point the episode presented. The question are you glad she didn't learn to fly in this episode, answer no I am not glad she didn't learn to fly. Feeling sad she can not fly does not equal thinking less of her or rating her any lower.

You didn't answer the question. Where is it stated that it is inherent. You said it is something you already have. I would like to know where in the show it states that. Because: No where I can find in the episodes you mentioned, Magical Mystery Cure and Cutie Pox is it stated that you are born with your cutie mark chosen for you and that your life and how you live has no baring on your talent. All those episodes show you is that different cutie marks affect your mind, not that the cutie mark you get is inherent and not dependant on life experience. If you are going to objectively disprove something I would like to see that proof. That cutie marks are chosen for you before you are born and where you live and what you do have no effect on the special talent you discover. Please show me the part of the episode I did not pay attention to that shows inherency.
-
As far as I have seen the show only talks about discovery of the cutie mark, not that it is fixed before birth. That the cutie mark will come to you when you find what makes you unique. Since who you are is shaped by experience it makes sense that discovery of that depends on how you live. I don't remember saying you choose it directly, just that in your life you find something special and it appears? I would actually like to see the quote that says that it is inherent, I.E completely fixed. I can't find the quote you refer to.
-
No I didn't ignore what Faust said, I said no evidence so far in the show. Faust also said there would be 2 Alicorns, her musings are interesting but not canon. As for ignoring Pinkie, I didn't ignore her powers at all. I said I see no proof that they are related solely to being an Earth Pony. This thread is about Magic because you are an Earth Pony not an Earth Pony with Magic. You say cutie marks are granted and this connects to being an earth pony. This hypothisis assumes your cutie mark is completely fixed and doesn't take into account nurture where the life expirences of the individual come into play in choosing the mark. A pony raised in Vanhoover in a shoe shop might have a very different cutie mark then if that pony was raised on a farm. The fact that they historically come from farm families may be the catalyst, not their race. A unicorn raised working on a farm may also be more likely to get a farmer cutie mark. Since Earth Ponies had been the providers to the other two tribes it makes sense that unicorn and pegasii are just not exposed to that life and therefore don't get a mark for it. Even then if Earth Ponies do naturally find talent in the profession of nature that may be a difference but it does not show they have a magical ability to be closer to nature or better using nature than a commited member of another race. She may have figured it out but there is no shown or implied connection between figuring that out and being an earth pony. It would need to only because she is an earth pony to be earth pony magic.
-
That all relies on Earth Ponies being the "sole reason" that stuff happens. Forgetting the unique Pinkie if a Unicorn dropped those seeds or spent years around Zap Apple trees can you same wouldn't happen with any certainty. Pegasus can shut down the weather, Unicorns can shut off the sun. Why work hard when you can threaten. You saw the awesome base camp and castle they had, don't get those plowing fields. That doesn't show at all that they are naturally "better at it" because of magic, just that they do it. --- No evidence of Earth Ponies having a unique Magic from Pegasus or Unicorns so far in the show.
-
So Earth Ponies are said to be stronger on average then other ponies and despite this not coming up in the show in any obvious way let's pretend they are. It may be because they walk everywhere on solid earth, not fly everywhere and land on clouds, or they carry heavy things around not levitate them like unicorns, that muscle adds up over the years for sure. Bic Mac and Applejack may be strong but so are Snowflake and Rainbow Dash. Plenty of strong Pegasii and Unicorns who work out and can gain strength similar to Earth Ponies. Now Earth Ponies are supposed to be attuned to nature but what if that is comfirmation bias. That Earth Ponies that farm are better farmers because they grow up in what kind of households? Farm households. Taught by experienced farm parents. For all we know Unicorn Magic may be better for farming but because it is hard and low paying they avoid it. Fluttershy also seems pretty connected to natures creatures as well, better than any Earth Pony. Some talk about Pinkie Pie's powers or other Earth Ponies that do things well like Applejack's farming but what if none of that is tied to being an Earth Pony at all. They just happen to be Earth Ponies. What if Earth Pony Magic is a myth made to make Earth Ponies feel better about lacking Wings and a Horn and gaining nothing in return? What if Earth Pony is just the short end of the stick? That would be one hell of an episode.

Yes they were. Why? Because Ponyville is exactly like Jim Crow America or Apartheid South Africa. Racial violence periodically breaks out and it has the highest Unicorn suicide rate in all of Equestria from all the oppressive suffering. Mass graves full of unicorn dissidents can be found around Sweet Apple Acre's. There is literally an above ground railroad to Canterlot that dozens of Unicorns use every day. Or perhaps: Twilight Sparkle: Spike, the first day of spring is tomorrow, so every pony in Ponyville needs to clean up winter. Now help me get ready. Spike: Clean up winter? Who cleans up winter? Don't they just use magic to change the seasons like they do in Canterlot? It is a silly little holiday that the town takes pride in and you are trying to make big KKK Mountains out of the animal teams Molehills. O_O
