  1. This is a huge grey area. If it's for non-profit purposes, it's technically legal, but Hasbro can still file for a C&D, since they own the IP. You can certainly contest the C&D, but it's generally not worth the effort. If it's work for-profit, fair use can potentially come into play. However, by its definition, fair use seems to be a subjective idea, and is extremely easily contested by Hasbro regardless of the nature of your work. In that situation, should a lawsuit start between you and Hasbro, the one with more money (hint: the large multinational multimillion corporation) is far, far more likely to win. In other words, the only safe route is getting the green light from Hasbro. However, if it's for-profit work, they may want to get a say in how your final work will turn out. That's creative freedom lost right there.
  2. I wish my car had a steering wheel. Those things are pretty useful inventions.

  3. So the doctor recently diagnosed me with derpes, not sure what to do now. HOW DOES ONE DEAL WITH DERPES? derp

  4. I've always wondered if there were any people watching the Japanese dub who would later stumble across bronies from across the pond. I guess I've finally found one now! By the way, if you're really interested in improving your English, consider adding some of us on Skype! Just let us know who you are and that you're on the forums, we won't bite. You can share your Skype info on this thread here if you're interested: http://mlpforums.com/topic/52992-skype-exchange-masterthread/page-25#entry2545835
  5. In the simplest of terms, the only religious people that are particularly dangerous are extremists or fundamentalists. The latter are the kind of guys going around boycotting things like homosexuality and TV because it is the spawn of the devil, and I don't think I need to explain what religious extremists could do. Most major religions, including Christianity, are hardly dangerous at all. It's just when people decide to forget the "love thy neighbour" sort of theme prevalent in all these religions and try to hunt them down instead. Also, as far as evolution goes, it doesn't necessarily contradict the bible, depending on the interpretation. Let's face it, things like Young Earth Creationism isn't even explicitly stated in the bible in any form at all, and there is overwhelming scientific evidence to prove that wrong. I would have to agree with Bill Nye that Creationism is dangerous, because it promotes a mentality where mindlessly accepting everything is held higher than questioning and finding evidence. Sure, there are lots of things in Christianity that rely simply on faith, but the most important of those things are the same stuff that science technically can not prove wrong anyways; if science has an explanation, it's smart to give it a chance. However, religion is not dangerous, it does not necessarily need to be at odds with science. As far as Christianity goes, I wouldn't even worry if something the preachers are teaching don't scientifically fit with something you believe in (like evolution), because the Bible is so vague about so many of its own teachings that there are bound to be disagreements even within the religion. The most important bit taught in Christianity is the acceptance of Jesus as one's saviour; thus, if you believe in that, why should anything else matter? Who the hell cares if evolution is real or not? Spread love and acceptance, not hate; isn't that what the Bible (and pretty much every other religion ever) puts at the centre of its belief system?
  6. I'd really love to go again this year. Problem is, BronyCAN happens right in the middle of my break, and I also wanted to take a road trip down to SoCal. So now I'm stuck here trying to decide on which of the two I should go for, or if I can somehow squeeze in enough time for both. I'm real excited about the convention though!
  7. Homework's whack, and so are rules! Tucking in your shirt's for fools!

  8. I think any of these two reactions would be appropriate if I ever saw news of FiM getting cancelled https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W45XF3ufas
  9. You speak as if an irrational fear is easy to get over. Sure, if you had a serious heart condition, you'd go straight for a hospital. However, if you had a serious predisposition against hospitals, you probably wouldn't. When someone has a mental disorder or phobia, they don't simply get over it. Medication and treatment is there for a reason. With that being said, it's understandable why you'd think he's just trying to get attention, but what part of calling him out on it would actually make this any better? As if one guy on the internet would suddenly change someone else's life choices. If you don't believe him, leave him alone; if you do believe him, try talking some sense into him. Convince him to get medical attention, understand why he's so against hospitals and think in his shoes. Simply put, I'm saddened to see so many people assuming that going to the hospital is something he is simply able to do, despite previously mentioning his feelings against them already. It's not like he doesn't believe in them; he knows very well what they can do for him. Nobody is actually helping the guy overcome his emotions at all. On the other hand, the skeptics are also wasting their time replying to this. If he's lying, you can't do anything about it, so ignore it and move on. For some people, overcoming their emotions is an easy thing to do, but for others, it can be the hardest thing in the world. Try doing the one thing you're absolutely terrified of. You simply can't. It's not that easy. That's just not how Operant Conditioning works, once he associates the negative things with the hospital on an emotional level, it becomes as natural as a fear of getting burned by fire. Have a proper conversation with him, understand is situation before you decide to judge him. Help him or ignore him. Anything else you do will be the equivalent of feeding a troll.
  10. Damn I wish I could read.

  11. Not sure why you have a problem with my software preferences at all. I prefer keeping DWM.exe, thank you very much. Those animations and transparency are really nice things to have on my desktop, and I hardly think they would dictate me as a person. What'd really make me leave the fandom though would be if the show stopped being good, or if bronies were completely dominated by kids and early teens (even mores than now), who are (to put it nicely) not my favourite type of people to have meaningful conversations with.
  12. By the way, if for whatever reason need an additional voice for a character and don't have time to cast somebody, I have a relatively decent mic, it's just unfortunately somewhat susceptible to pops. Also, on the musical side of things, I am able to work with proper orchestra sounds if needed. I'll be around, you can contact me on Skype if you decide that my special time to become the chosen one has arrived.
  13. If you need people to help with the sound aspect of things, I may be able to lend a hand when the time comes.
  14. No worries. I'd like to add one last thing, try doing multiple takes of the same part. Even if you nail it the first time, those extra takes may sound better to you, or may give you more material to work with for whatever reason in the future. Or you may just like the way you said a word in one take, and the way you said a different word in another take, and you wanted to combine those two bits in post production for the best sentence in the world. Either way, glad I could help!
  15. After watching through your video, I could think of a few points for improvement. What I've noticed first is that you titled your video as an "analysis review". This title could potentially be confusing to your audience and dissuade them from watching your video. Something else I noticed, is that your video seems to be much more of a review than an analysis. I would suggest you sticking to one of the two predominantly. If it's a review, explain to your audience why they should or shouldn't watch it, and try to justify your opinions on the episode. If it's an analysis, usually, an easy way to capture people's attention is to choose a certain topic to analyze (eg. A particular character's development, the theme, use of certain lines/sounds/visuals etc.). Something else worth considering for an analysis is whether you plan on doing it from an in-universe or real-world perspective. The difference here is that an in-universe perspective would have you analyzing everything in regards to show canon, character traits, backstory (etc.) whereas a real-world perspective would explain things (especially plot holes and bad storytelling mechanics) from, well, a more realistic point of view. You would be considering things like Hasbro's business strategy and plans in regards to the story, the mindset of the production team when they created this scene (etc.). Of course, you can include both, but it's a good idea to focus more on one of them. Here's something you may or may not be willing to do: Getting a new microphone. The mic quality right now is pretty low; you have a lot of noise coming through and sound fidelity is overall pretty low. Of course, this has to do with the hardware you're working with and it may not be something you can immediately solve. Something you can work on, however, is scripting and sound editing. I noticed that you liked pausing between sentences to gather your thoughts and find your words. This really breaks up the flow of the video, and can be the reason why some may find it boring. Sound editing can help cut out the unnecessary silence, and scripting can help you deliver your words more quickly and effectively, since previous planning has been applied. Scripting can also benefit you because it allows you to remove a lot of unnecessary info that you may otherwise wind up adding in. Finally, it is important to sound more energetic through the microphone. If you listen to your voice, you may find that you sounded kind of half-asleep. To keep your audience interested, it is important to not only be quick and concise, but to be energetic and to sound genuinely interested in you topic as well. As far as mic quality goes, depending on the situation, the effect on your video can vary. However, it shouldn't be too big a problem in your case, but if you have access to an EQ and noise gate, they may help work out some of the (somewhat) distracting static that you're getting, and to a lesser extent, improve your fidelity a tad bit. One last thing, it was a good idea to have your OC's expression change to match the implied emotions of your speech. However, for much of the video, that was the only thing going on. You could perhaps make better use of your screen real estate by adding relevant screenshots or videos to the side, and (thought not all that necessary) providing a more varied range of looks/postures for your OC's various emotions (such as a hoof on his chin when looking thoughtful or confused). Good luck!
  16. I'm fine with ricers as long as they're aware that their car isn't all that powerful. Some people genuinely appreciate the look of one and aren't to concerned with actual performance. Then there are those who think their cars are faster and go racing with it (and so on). Not the brightest bunch, but at least they tried. Then there's the guy in the video. We're going to have to invent a new word to categorize him.
  17. I would hardly say that Hasbro is choosing to keep FiM running because of bronies. I'm not exactly sure on the exact size of our demographic compared to the little girls, but realistically, I think there would be plenty more girls than bronies. You see, even if we covered the majority of FiM's demographic, we certainly do not cover the majority of Hasbro's earnings. MLP is very much still a girls' thing, both in sales and in others' impressions. With that in mind, remember that as a corporation, the lifeline of all of Hasbro come from not their sales directly, but their investors. Now think for a second; what would impress investors more? Continuing FiM and G4 because of a bunch of grown men who are into a girl's IP (and said grown men are probably seen as weirdoes)? Or choosing to continue FiM because Hasbro can continue capitalizing the franchise in its target demographic? Also, bear in mind just the kind of power the investors hold over Hasbro. Who are the guys making the toys for Hasbro? Investors. Who are the guys distributing and selling these toys? Investors. Who are the guys giving Hasbro their budget to develop new toys, TV shows and movies? Investors. The point is, Hasbro (and any other major corporation) absolutely rely on other companies to keep their business flowing. It's probably nice for Hasbro to get a bit of extra revenue from us, but bronies are hardly deciding any of Hasbro's major business strategies.
  18. I never said the drive itself was faulty; your partition might be, or something may have gone wrong in the formatting process. The simplest way is to reformat the thing and try again (you could also try a repair software-side, but that takes a bit more effort in typing out). Just remember that no matter what happens, the partition manager in Windows works perfectly fine on its own without a doubt; it is the external variables that Windows has to work with that can break things (eg. HDD format, drivers, RPM, design etc.). I can guarantee that in its most basic conditions, absolutely nothing in Windows that you'll ever use is broken; given the huge number of hardware that the system needs to be compatible with, it's already immensely impressive (and ridiculously difficult) how smoothly Windows can run under every hardware combination on the market. Give Microsoft a break, it's a partitioning service we're talking about.
  19. Your issue with Windows 7's partitioning service is a very specific one; nobody on the forums can help you because we can not directly take a look at your pc. Talk to a technician or go on Microsoft Answers for support. Like I said, it's very unlikely to be Windows' fault. Btw, have you tried extending the partition through cmd yet? You ought to try that. I would recommend against using third-party software to do the job. Also, don't forget the possibility that your current C: partition may have been faulty from the start. That would cause any attempts at extending the partition to fail.
  20. If using Partition Magic gave you the BSOD, then you have no reason to blame Windows for it. It was Partition Magic that screwed up your partition, Windows had nothing to do with it. Also, were you trying to extend your C drive with a separate partition? Windows can not do that. You can only extend with unallocated space. Otherwise, check to make sure your hard drive is formatted to NTFS. At the end of the day, Windows is most likely not to blame. There are so many other possible factors, such as your HDD connection method or BIOS settings (etc.). Computers are so sensitive to these minute changes that it's almost impossible to straight up lay the blame on one factor without extensive testing first.
  21. I beg to differ. There are a few free plugins in FL Studio that are powerful enough on their own to write entire EDM tracks. The only reason you'd add something like Massive into it would be to include 100% accurate mainstream EDM sounds, though there are plenty of alternatives in FL (paid or free) that can do almost just as good a job.
  22. A problem with that would stem from the fact that since My Little Pony is a children's toy that's already pretty pricey, it would not make sense to bring in a more expensive line of toys. Since kids to not have any financial power themselves, it is the parents who would buy these toys for their kids, which means that if there's a cheaper My Little Pony toy, that's what they will go for. As we've already seen, the girls have little interest for a more show accurate version. I'd imagine the care much much more about the toys than the show anyways, and they're not at the critical thinking capacity to truly start questioning the different aesthetics between the toys and the show. Given the cost it takes to produce a new line of toys on the scale that is expected from Hasbro, a high-end My Little Pony toy would be too big a risk for Hasbro, and if Hasbro screws up, not only would they lose money from the manufacturing process (which is only around 10% - 20% of their total losses anyways), but they would lose investment as well, which is every major corporation's nightmare. Still, I would definitely agree that I would still want a show accurate toy. The current ones look hideous! Also, let's not forget that Hasbro would also have to convince investors in the first place that a high-end My Little Pony is a good move. To fund the creation of a new product, Hasbro (and basically any other major company) expects the budget to come out of the pockets of investors, not their own. In that sense, it is the investors that ultimately decide the moves a corporation will make. At the end of the day, Hasbro has still figured out ways to make money off of us. Their licensing strategies to produce dog tags, comics and vinyl collectibles are clearly more or less targeted towards us; however, notice that Hasbro is not actually producing these products themselves. It's too big a risk, so instead, they've decided to invest in other companies and have them churn out these brony things. Unless the merchandise becomes a flop, this move would cost Hasbro next to no money, and they'd end up with a more impressive earnings figure for girls' products in their next end-of-quarter report to impress stockbrokers. This way, they're not directly using the money from their investors, and as a result, would avert the PR crisis. If the products fail, they lose some money from their own investments, but if it succeeds, a buttload of other people would invest in Hasbro and earn them tons of profits. Smart people.
  23. I doubt it'll be likely. The girls seem to be quite content with the way the toys currently look, so there is no reason to spend a buttload of money to slightly modify their faces or hair. If Hasbro did do that, investors would feel that Hasbro was unnecessarily spending the investors' money, and so investors will pull out of Hasbro's stock. That, and the fact that Hasbro would be modifying their toys to more or less appease a non-target audience (for the toys, at least) would only throw salt on the wound for their PR with stockbrokers everywhere. In the end, it's the investors that Hasbro wants to keep, not the consumers directly (consumers are usually what brings in the investors though, but there is also much more than that). As a result, Hasbro needs to build an image of them being in control and efficient with investors' money in order to earn more money themselves. Spending a fortune to modify an already successful toy line without substantial changes (eg. G4.5 or G5) would be a decision that definitely won't impress any investor. It makes them think that Hasbro has got their priorities all wrong, and if they did change the toys for us, their priorities would indeed be wrong.
  24. No love for Tommy Tallarico? This is unacceptable! How can you guys possibly forget the man behind the music of such classic hits like "Colour a Dinosaur" and "Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis"? ...wait let me try that again. Can't embed this last one but have some Sonic.
  25. Darn, I was just going to post something from Kirby 64, but everyone always seem to beat me at whatever I set out to do. Oh well, here's something just as good. I don't think anybody in the world playing Conker's Bad Fur Day could have expected the Great Mighty Poo song in a million years. It completely threw me off guard when I first heard it (I'm sure this also applied to everyone else playing the game too). You simply can't go wrong with a giant poo singing about... poo. Seriously, there's nothing else in the entire world quite like this. Just a quick tip, there is some "big people" language present. Please don't sue.
