Today, Me, Speedy, MrMeep and his sister, all decided to go for a bit of a lurk around town, since it was fairly sunny and nice. (It's been raining the past few days, and it was nice to finally get a warm-ish day out.)
After a bit of contemplation, we all decided to rent out a boat, where you basically pay £55 (inc deposit) to go and ride up and down the river. It was just basic rules like, keep 20ft away from the edge of the river because of water levels, always stay to the right, and only overtake by using the middle.
Taking into account that this is a public river/canal, and people with yacht's, canoes, other rented boats, and massive two story tourist boats go up and down.
We all set off with Meep controlling the boat... since he can fly planes, we figured he'd be the best to start off with getting us off and such. Me and Speedy were stood with our head out of the top of the boat, with Meeps sister sat chilling at the back.
After about five/ten minutes or so, Meep asked if I wanted to have a turn in driving. It was pretty basic controls, a wheel, and a throttle. The throttle pushed all the way to the top signaled forwards, in the center was neutral, and down was reverse.
When I got sorted and into the seat, I was trying to get my bearings on how to drive the bloody thing, at times it was really sensitive to slight movements, and at others it needed a massive turn to get it to actually re-direct.
SO. There's me, going in a sort of half zig-zaggy motion, when Meep, his sister and Speedy start shouting at me, telling me that there's one of the massive tourist boats RIGHT behind us. I started to panic and basically crap myself. They were telling me to veer right to try give it space, but the boat just wasn't having any of it. Meep's sister was practically shitting herself too, as the boat was apparently inches from hitting ours, before the boat decided to work with me. xD For some reason it wasn't turning right even though I was turning it in the right direction D:
I can't even describe the pressure I felt having my friends shitting theirselves telling me that I'm about to crash into a bloody boat from behind, when the boat I was driving myself didn't want to turn when I wanted to D:
But yeah, got a few more days with Speedy up here, so let's see if anything else weird and stupid happens! xD
