  1. So I'm relatively new here, I haven't gone out of my way to make giant strides in the "community" if you can even call it that. However, I'm honestly pretty damn disgusted by it. I know it's not all of you, and perhaps it's just me but most of my interactions with the more established members have really made me question even coming here. Maybe my age difference to the majority of the fandom also plays a role. Hell I don't know, I'm no expert in psychology. Here's what I mostly see here: A bunch of bigots, hypocrites and a lot of other people that truly have no concept of how the world works. That just doesn't add up to what the big picture is supposed to be. It sure isn't what MLP stands for to me. For a community that uses "Love and Tolerance" as a slogan, I've seen everything but it here. As such, I'm pretty sure that I just don't belong here. So here I am, writing my last memoirs -- so to speak. If anyone would like to make an appeal to me leaving, feel free to leave a reply here. Until then... this is Tech Pony, signing off. Indefinitely.
  2. I never said there wasn't a better way, if you read up through what I said.
  3. Let's look at this... Almost certain injury and possible if not probable death for the man or temporary pain and a 99.7% chance to live. You do the math and tell me what is a more favorable outlook.
  4. The fatal flaw with what you say there is that by demonstrating self harming behavior you show legally that you're no longer posses the mental capacity to make rational decisions for yourself. That gives the authority to first responders to step in and act in your best interest. As a paramedic, I would have restrained the guy as well. Mechanically at first, then if necessary call for orders for Haloperidol. Deaths by tasers do happen, but they're extremely uncommon and most likely due to an underlying heart condition. Studies have shown that 99.7% of victims of being tased suffer minor (eg. minor cuts and bruises) injuries or none at all. That's outstanding I'd have to say.
  5. He was mandated by law to prevent this guy from doing harm to himself. He chose a nonlethal method to do so. He was not above the law, he was following the law.
  6. By law, yes they have the right to. It was a judgement call. Was it the best judgement call? Probably not. If I had been there I'd have tried some other way of restraining the man first.
  7. Holy sheep guys... The cop was preventing the man from doing harm to himself. I was a paramedic and firefighter years ago. They did the man a favor. They have the authority and mandate to prevent you from doing harm from yourself.
  8. TBH... OS X doesn't do any single thing better than Windows. Its last stronghold of increased security is slowly slipping away. Security through obscurity just doesn't cut it any longer.
  9. You sir, completely misunderstand the concept of bootcamp. Bootcamp allows you to dual boot OS X and another OS which is typically Windows. When you turn on your computer you have a choice to boot either OS X or the other OS but not both at the same time. You're talking about Virtualization, which would be achieved either through VMWare Fusion, Parallels Desktop or Oracle Virtualbox. CPU's have specialized layers that have really improved virtualization performace through a technology called paravirtualization. However it's still not native performance.
  10. I'd highly recommend against using PlayOnMac or PlayOnLinux except as a last ditch effort. Wine performance is really not that good to begin with and application support is dismal at best.
  11. Depends on how you install Windows, if you bootcamp... then yes. Also there is nothing hard on a Mac by using boot camp.
  12. Welp... I guess that answers that one there! It's a shame too because when they had discrete graphics it wasn't a bad overall package to buy, sure you were gouged on the price a little bit. It would seem that now you're just getting completely reamed in both price and performance.
  13. Most of the newer portable macs no longer have discrete graphics which zaps their ability to do anything but the lightest gaming right there. I'm not sure if they've followed suit on the iMacs/Mac Mini's yet, but it wouldn't surprise me. Before Intel really started pushing their graphics line, you could do ok on a Mac provided that you installed Windows.
  14. Nothing like a good beer after working all day on your vehicle.

  15. Spiders are the reason I have a shotgun.
  16. Well there's something we can all agree on... there was more cocaine in the 80's and everything is better with cocaine.
  17. Sure there were horrible games, there always have been. What there wasn't was a pervasive attitude to push out crap and the have it playable just in time for the next release. It's even becoming more pervasive in the indie game scene. I know a lot of people who are refusing to take part in crowd funding because you never actually know what you're getting, and a lot of the time it turns out to either be crap or not worth what you're paying for.
  18. No... developers are just as much the problem, indie developers are pushing just as much crap as the big names are.
  19. You guys are still missing the point of this thread. This thread isn't about transplanting us back to the level of technology of the 1980's rather transplanting a part of the 1980's in today. Specifically the mindset of developers in the 80's and 90's. The mindset that they don't want to gouge their customers at every corner and the want to provide quality products. Please correct me if I'm wrong Hyper, but I'm pretty sure we're on the same page here. :3
  20. The numbers you're quoting are skewed in the context that I was talking about. They include fun stuff such as R&D and Hardware production. Stuff that only pertains to the console and not the game. FUN FACT: Microsoft at the very least sold XB360 at a loss for years. That's a conscious decision made by Microsoft, which contributed to those numbers being so low. Seeing as how you quoted me talking about video games in specific which had nothing to do with console production, I'd like to see you present some numbers that don't actually include all that silly stuff. Let's have a look at publishers who don't actually manufacture the consoles themselves. EA: 2012 - Netted 76M 2013 - Netted 98M ATVI: 2009 Netted 113M 2010 Netted 418M 2011 Netted 1.07B 2012 Netted 1.13B There's proof right there that you can make money... and loads of it off of video games.
  21. Unless you're a mall cop, then you're just total badass.
