  1. I feel the same way. I don't need the title to like MLP. And I don't feel the need that it's required for me to like MLP, it probably has a lot to do with liking it for so long that the term brony doesn't really give me any kind of personal connection. I'd also say it's largely a FIM male thing; maybe to define themselves as something different from the norm. Because there have always been guys who liked MLP, at least ever since I've been online there have been male collectors and fans of the show previous to FIM. Before FIM, nobody in MLP online community really called themselves any kind of group name. Even the males who liked MLP (and I'm talking about all around fans, toy collectors, show watchers, etc), we never had any kinda separation to define ourselves as either male or female MLP people. We were just ponypeople. And it was never a big deal before FIM.
  2. Most of you probably don't know this but there are actually 2 G1 Twilight. Twilight 1 is the pink Unicorn and there is another pony who is a pegasus who is also named Twilight. I didn't know Twilight was a student, I suppose there could be something in the G1 comics sold outside the the USA that I've never had access to. Is that where you are getting that Twilight was a student from? I never got to read the comics form the UK but I do know there were a lot more interesting stories about the ponies in those. Also to give yall some MLP history lessons, each G1 pony was sold with it's own backcard story. G1 Unicorn Twilight's story is: Long ago on one warm and misty night, Twilight wanted to make a wish. Her keen eyes roamed the dark sky. "I do not see a single star to make a wish upon," she said as she reared and pointed her horn at the moon. "Oh, dear Moon, please bring out a star for me tonight." Suddenly, the sky was ablaze with light. every single star that existed shone down on Twilight. "Make your wish quickly, Twilight!" boomed the Moon. Twilight wished that all the stars would shine so bright on that same night, every year. Now all the ponies come out to make their own special wishes on these starry, starry nights. Not sure if that makes her a student, her wish apparently had the power to make all the stars that existed to shine brightly on a special night.
  3. WHA? you can never have to many unicorns.... The Unicorn (amalthea) wasn't weak, she had the strength to leave everything she knew, a safe protected life in her forest to go out an find those of her kind. She went through all that and was turned into a human where she had to adjust, plus being human her magic was not as strong. If she had stayed human eventually she would have forgotten and lost her unicorn self; and as a unicorn she managed to find friends who helped her in the end to save her race from imprisonment in the sea. It's more a story of growth than anything else. I actually like the cartoon better than the book, which I've read the book a number of times, but the music, animation and plot of the cartoon simplifies the story. Actually if you go on facebook and look at the page, the Last Unicorn has been having special screenings of the movie because I think it's some kind of anniversary for the film. Totally wish I could go to one but everywhere they've had it is super far away from me. here is the facebook page for it https://www.facebook.com/thelastunicornmovie
  4. Uh, I don't think you and I are watching the same show...maybe a lot of you guys are in denial of what you actually like LOL!
  5. I don't agree that it's less girly; there is plenty of girly things in FIM that males who like it either brush off, are wearing rose colored glasses and ignoring or don't know what girly is. besides that point so many people in the brony fandom use the term 'girly' in a way that I find kind of offensive...as if something being girly is a bad thing.
  6. Your opinion is MLP before G4 is cringy....my opinion is it's awesome. Your opinion is horse ass is hot, my opinion is a horses ass, is still a horses ass.
  7. actually there have been males into MLP since I've been online and that's been about 17-18 years. Probably almost as long as a majority of you have been alive...but I wouldn't expect people who have only been into MLP for a few years to actually know that since y'all probably didn't know what the internet or MLP was 17 years ago.
  8. I'm not a brony, I've been at this too long for catchy newbie fan driven titles.
  9. I have no idea what a 'bunfest' is, please enlighten me. FIM the best? Hum. It depends on what aspect of MLP you are talking about. If you are talking about the toy line itself, G1 is clearly the best due to it's quality of toy and diversity of product. In the toy line I would actually put FIM next to last.
  10. I think another part of the reason is, there are two separate fandoms where MLP is concerned. You have the Brony fandom; mostly focused on FIM/cartoon. And then you have the already existing MLP fandom. made up of those who were already fans of MLP before FIM came into existance. While there are females who consider themselves Bronies, a lot of fans who came before FIM do not really call or consider themselves Brony. Some do, and there is mixing between the two but for lack of a better term, there are two herds.
  11. As much as I love MLP, I would find it annoying that the President of the United States would take time out of his schedule to bring up My Little Pony; regardless of who is the president. I'm under the assumption that the president should have more important things to discuss and deal with than a cartoon/toyline.
  12. They've started to add some more stuff lately. I bought a really cute Princess Celestia and also an Applejack necklace there; it's a ball chain necklace with a little 3d figure. I really like them, have no idea if any other stores carry them, but I've only seen them in claire's.. And they had some other things as well besides hair stuff. I think gradually they've put in more stuff where before it was just a couple of random things. Buying online is great and fine, but on the other hand if you are going shopping and you are in the store...you can just buy it then and there.
  13. There is a store called Claire's - this store is usually inside a mall. http://www.claires.com/ They also have some MLP things. I've also see a few things at a store called Justice, as well as Spencers and hot topic; all of which are usually in a mall. As others have said places like Walmart, Toys R Us, I've also seen stuff in Books a Million.
  14. The cutie marks came into existence when Rainbow Dash did the sonic boom, they all saw the rainbow and that influenced them getting they're cutie mark. They even say in that episode that it connected them...that's what I'm talking about. Yea...that...and I'm not a he I'm a she. Plus I don't know many males named Karen...just sayin'
  15. Was the main 6 natural? They're cutie mark came into effect, influenced by each other. I guess that's natural, or more like supernatural since a bit of magic in the rainbow connected all of them. Well, they're trying new things to find out what they are good at. The cartoon presents this in a way that children can connect with; that moment when all your friends seem more mature than you or other kids are able to do things and some kids get left behind. I can't give you the boy perspective on this but it's pretty much the same for boys and girls. When children mature slower than other kids, those kids can feel insecure about themselves. So FIM is presenting this process in pony version. For kids and pre-teens this is probably more relevant to adults and or older teenagers because they have already gone through this process. Generally when kids get together they do a bunch of nonsense together and frankly just seeing the cutie mark crusaders sit around eating chips, playing video games and watching TV would not be very interesting for a cartoon. I'm sure they do just hang out but who wants to watch that as a plot on a 30 minute cartoon? There are a lot of times in real life where younger people do not listen to the more mature people in they're lives, why would this be presented any differently on the cartoon? This is probably one of the most realistic things happening in the situation.
  16. General Firefly, props to the original G1 Pegasus Firefly? Who was one of the first pegasus ponies in the G1 line.
  17. LOL! I actually joined mlpforums to discuss G4 merchandise! So you and I practically joined opposite sites for the same reason. Oh, I don't mind telling you, I've been a member of the arena since...humm..2004. I've been online since 1997ish. The whole reason I got online back then was because I met another collector at a flea market and she told me I could go online and find ponies I was still looking for and talk to other MLP collectors/fans. If you are looking for certain older gen ponies, the arena is a good place to get info on them and ask about prices and learn about the history of MLP from long time fans perspective. There are a few collectors who know even more than hasbro knows about they're product. Also there is another collecting board, the trading post. Generally it's pretty similar but is also a good place as well to find ponies. I started in 1983 with 2 ponies. The picture I posted is actually a few years old now and I lately reorganized the shelves to make room for G4's. Haven't finished organizing the G4 section but it's a start anyway:
  18. Some people are just gonna be negative and hateful about it, but I really do like rescue at midnight castle, one of my favorite MLP cartoons. I like it better than quite a few G4 episodes. Some of the songs in it are my favorite as well, and I prefer them to some of the G4 songs. It's just a matter of taste and opinion and what you personally like.
  19. Uh...what do you mean you lost interest far to early??? It was the very first MLP cartoon EVER...there was nothing before it... 1984 was when the first special aired on TV, then in 1985 they had a second 'special'. It wasn't till 1986/87 that the cartoon started to air on TV.
  20. Just for clarification, G2 didn't have a cartoon. If you look into the history of MLP, you will understand why.. G2 is defined as the change in the toy line itself. My Little Pony tales, which a lot of bronies seem to identify as G2 is actually in the same style as G1, the toys and animation are pretty much the same the only difference is the setting the ponies live in is different. G2 is a direct and very obvious change in the whole toy line and art style for MLP, that is why it is called G2. There are other reasons G2 is called G2, but I'm not going to get into those here. For your actual history lesson: MY Little Pony franchise consists of: 1981 - Hasbro first production of a MLP, large pony called My Pretty Pony 1982 thru 1995 Hasbro G1 toy production. 1984 - the first TV special was created - aka "Rescue at Midnight Castle"/"Firefly's Adventure" 1985 - second TV special was created - Escape from Catrina 1986 - My Little Pony the Movie 1986-1987 - My Little Pony TV series 1992 - My little Pony Tales TV series As you can see, G1 production continued from 1982 thru 1995 - Tales was created in 1992, still during and within the Generation 1 timeline, toy and animation are the same. Generation 2 MLP didn't have a cartoon, it's production started in 1997 and was a clear defined difference from what was produced previously. The art style and toys were completely different. People that know very little of MLP history and some who clearly hate or dislike previous generations seem to be only going by the animation when they call Tales G2, but EVEN if you go by the animation the art style is the same and the toys are exactly the same. Generation 3 started in 2003 - again, animation and toy were different from what came before. People can deny it, argue it, but frankly if you look at the actual facts, time, dates and production of animation and toy it's obviously that Tales is part of G1.
  21. Uh, forcing my views!!?? No way dude...just forcing you to look at my ponies by posting links...muwhahaha...
  22. But anyone who likes the previous gen stuff can say the same thing, that they like MLP because it's a simple cartoon (whatever gen.) At the end of the day it's an opinion, you don't like it but not everyone shares the same opinion on it, not even on this forum.
  23. Sugar Dash...I am your mother...(LOL!) :okiedokielokie: why haven't you cleaned your room yet...
