  1. What is the greatest number of brohooves you have given on any single day?
  2. The current system (that is, optionally posting in the Welcome area) seems fine to me. Forcing the matter seems like it'd either turn people away or possibly increase the number of junk posts in the Welcome area. While I did post there, it's not difficult to imagine that others might not. I don't believe a first post in some other forum is any less valid than one in the welcome area.
  3. So long as it isn't shutting down and you don't mind your room being a sauna -- it's all good.
  4. That was the single best thing about the original Titans. It was like a Tesla K40 for 1/4 the cost. Granted it lacked ECC and had (only) 6 GB vs 12 on the K40, but if you had specific workload need, it was a steal, which is kind of weird talking about $1k worth of GPU but... all relative I suppose.
  5. Kepler Titans only. Nothin' special about the Titan X aside from having 12 GB of RAM. Same neutered to hell DP performance as the other Maxwells. Not that it matters for gaming.
  6. True, my 970 is probably gonna stick around for a while. I just find it impressive the 980 Ti can bench with a pair of 970s in SLI in some metrics. The performance delta is huge -- and it's still a single GPU card that'd work without me needing to upgrade my power supply. It's pretty phenomenal, I don't remember the last time (if there was) where we saw such a huge performance leap in the same generation. I don't want to leave AMD out of this either. The 980 Ti was clearly aimed at (and priced to compete with) the Fury X. Kinda sucks for all the Titan X owners, though. Only 3 months of being on top.
  7. So, graphics cards...! ASUS dropped their new 980 Ti STRIX with Armor Protection and Auto-Extreme Technology. http://www.maximumpc.com/asus-unveils-armor-protected-strix-gtx-980-ti-graphics-card/ They claim it to be up to 30% cooler. Eat your heart out, Rainbow Dash. Already itching for an upgrade. I should stop looking for ways to blow cash.
  8. Sure. It's free and I've always upgraded to new Windows versions shortly after release. Never had an issue other than the general slowness that was the initial release of Vista. Also picked up a touch screen laptop recently so it should be a nice pairing.
  9. This article might help: https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59500
  10. With 3x2TB drives in RAID 0, you are dramatically increasing the risk of failure and complete data loss. I don't know what kind of NAS you're planning on using, but consider two larger drives in a RAID 1 mirror. Synology units have an easy to configure "hybrid RAID" that maximizes available storage space given at least two hard drives in an array. It's also easy to expand and doesn't require all drives to be the same size. Worth considering if you just want to get something up and running. Edit: I wanted to add that if data protection is your priority, back up anything stored on the NAS to an external and store it someplace else. RAID =/= backup.
  11. Not sure if you're still trying to fix the problem with your framerate, but try installing the latest drivers and ticking the "Clean installation" checkbox. 1366x768 is nothing for a 970.
  12. Setting everything to either Medium or High significantly improved my framerate without making the game look much worse. On a 970 @ 1600p here so you may not need to cut back as much.
  13. The VS series isn't marketed in here in the US, but it appears the same OEM manufactures it and the CX600/430. Should be fine.
  14. Fair enough. I was thinking of the i7-E chips. Totally forgot you could pop a Xeon in one of these things.
  15. FX Series Vishera CPUs do not have integrated graphics as do the APUs, so if you are planning to go this route, you will need a dedicated graphics card. You cannot add additional memory via PCI Express expansion slots. If you are looking for more than the typical 2 or 4, Intel X99 platform CPUs support up to 8 slots, 64 GB.
  16. Problem is people gouge for this stuff on eBay due to the resurgence of interest in vintage computing. Pick it up cheap or free and flip it for hundreds. Same thing that happened to mechanical keyboards which could be found for a couple bucks at a Goodwill. Assuming your local thrift stores aren't just full of old clothes like the ones around here are, you might get lucky and find something like that for virtually nothing.
  17. Possible. Assuming your heatsink is making proper contact with the CPU and the old one works just fine, the other thing I'd check for is the possibility of any bent pins on the CPU itself. Barring that, it might just be a bad chip -- more and more likely since you have another CPU that works in the same machine.
  18. I'm guessing you don't actually have a floppy drive installed. Can you try reseating the memory? If that doesn't work, try clearing the CMOS with the motherboard jumper pin.
  19. It'd be a good idea to identify the beep code so you can begin troubleshooting. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/award-beep-codes.htm
  20. Try a different mouse and see if the problem reoccurs. If it does, try it with the keyboard instead.
  21. I'm guessing unplugging and plugging the mouse/keyboard back in while they weren't recognized didn't help?
  22. Really? I figured the Prelude was still sought after by folks displeased with the general direction in which Honda is heading these days. I've done the same to my Acura, only it has about half as many miles, still a baby. Driving is fun. Have fun.
