It honestly feels pretty stagnant. There is very little anything new that truly interests me. G5 is alright, but it doesn't have me all into it like G4 was. I've been into the show for 11 years, and the fandom for 6 years, and it has gone away significantly to where it's a mere whisper of what it once was. Over time, I feel like a lot of the users have become more negative influences over time. I wish I could be apart of something new, and have the same feeling of nostalgia and being apart of something so grand.

When do you think this feeling of stagnation started?

Could you also talk more about what you mean by people becoming negative influences? I'd love to hear from your persepctive as well :)

Kinda aggravating in a lot of the wrong ways, especially the last couple of years. I'd explain why but I'd be violating a "no politics" rule, though that alone should give you an idea where I'm getting at

Would you mind DMing me then? I'd still be interested in hearing from your perspective :)

  3. Crosspost from reddit

I've been thinking about this lately, but what has the fandom felt like to you lately? Secondly, what have you wanted it to feel like?

I ask this because I've been a brony for a long time. I joined the fandom in 2011, was on facebook brony groups before moving to Pony+ on google+ before coming to the mlp subredditst in 2012.

I remember back then the fandom feeling like it had something to prove, you know? Like, it had that "We're here, we want people to recognize us, we're counter culture, we're awesome" and we had a lot of momentum from that, so much so that it transferred into a lot of brony conventions getting as high as 10,000+ attendees at bronycon before the fandom entered this long-stall kind of feeling.

Granted I think it started on the internet a little earlier than It did in person because the internet side of the fandom seemed to stall out before the conventions started declining in numbers, I might be wrong, does anypony else share this feeling? If so, when did you start feeling it?, but lately I've had this weird thought keep appearing like "Where is the fandom at today? Where is it going?"

And that's what lead me to asking you all in this post, because I'm curious to see what you guys think about this kind of thing, and was wondering if you all could tell me a little about what the fandom "feels" like to you? What it's felt like for you over the years, and where you think it's headed?

  4. Could somepony give me some help?

I'm trying to draw a pony in a 4-point stance for a picture I want to draw, but I'm running into some problems.

I'm using this picture as a reference, trying to draw it from a side view instead of from a downward one, and my body and hooves just don't look right. My attempts are below:

    Gestrue drawing:

    zmLdnno.jpg

    Roughing out the figure:

    AttqRbI.jpg

    Refining:

    Sn98hDy.jpg

The head looks fine, thge wings look fine, I can even work with thew hooves a bit, But I don't know how to get the rest of her to look right. Do you guys have any tips?

  5. Damn dude, I'vee never dreamed about ponies, even after watching 3 seaons in a row. I would challange you to draw those pictures you saw, but I don't know if you even draw.

I do draw actually, here's my DA, and I was thinking of recreating the images I saw in my dream, but I'm apprehensive because they were done in a light, sort of book illustration style, like made with colored pencils, and I've never done anything like that before and I'm afraid of screwing it up.

That actually causes me to not do a lot of art, it's a hang-up I'm trying to get over.

  6. Hello forum, Rainb0w Dashie here.

So I'm starting to have pony dreams more often lately. The last few I remember walking down the street with EqG Fluttershy, holding her hand, and thinking to myself how she smells like blue raspberry candy, and a clop dream about Twilight that I'm not going to go into great detail about.

Last night though I had a particularly interesting dream. Interesting in the fact that I've been on a drawing binge lately and in the dream I was looking through an art book in my living room with a bunch of pictures of Twilight Sparkle. There were at least a dozen or more but I only remember a couple:

Twilight on a sandy beach, wings splayed and balancing a steel chain and collar on her nose as if it were a stiff cane. atop the chain was a glass of water that Twilight was trying to balance, which seemed weird because the chain shoulder succumb to gravity.

The next one was of Twilight at the entrance of Golden Oak Library, hanging the chain and collar from the previous picture on a coat hook like it were a scarf. What I noticed the most about this picture was how bored Twilight looked.

The last one I remember was the most interesting, the picture was circular and divided in half horizontally. on the top hemisphere Twilight was crouched and sneaking towards the left side of the circle, on the bottom hemisphere was a bear, in the same position,m mirrored from Twilight, and in a black-white monochrome color scheme.

I really wish I could remember the rest of the pictures because I remember thinking they were very surreal and avant garde. This dream also came after one about me suffering a medical condition where bone fragments were growing into my nose and mouth and I was furiously trying to dig them out.

I think the dreams were playing off me worrying about this ear blockage I have, thinking I was going to go deaf atr first, coupled with my copious amounts of drawing this weekend. Suffice to say they were pretty intense dreams.

  7. I dunno why I'm posting here, just felt like talking to someponies.

Anyway, I bought the rest of my computer components tonight, well at least enough to get the thing started. I've been trying to build this thing since 2013 but life kept getting in the way. My job at the time went south, then I was having money issues at my next job, and eventually I just forgot about it.

But I've been needing to upgrade my tech for a while. I'm trying to get into game streaming and animating so I needed some serious processor power to be able to do anything like that. Even trying to record for my youtube channel I'm having issues like lag from my camcorder or only being able to record in 640p because anything higher and xsplit will stall my computer.

I've still got like $500 more of parts to buy, but that's just the video card and extra ram and hard drives.

Anywaym, I guess I need to give this thread a point. What kind of computer do you have and what do you do with it? Any mlp projects or side hobbies?

  8. Short and simple: I'm working on a pony fanfic and need some help naming the main character.

    Some characteristics of the character:

    • She is Rainbow Dash's sister
    • Shares the same coloring as Dash (blue coat, rainbow mane), except her mane is much longer, around shoulder length, and has different colored eyes.
    • Where Dash is confident and boisterous the main character is quite and reserve. However, she is not the 'polar opposite" of Rainbow Dash. The two characters have different motivations and different background stories that influenced their outlooks and how their personalities developed, but the main character is  the opposite to Dash in terms of social status due to some bad events the character was involved in as a child.
    • She later discovers a talent for painting, she was also drawing as a child but never attempted anything behind a crayon drawing until she was an adult.

It's really hard to explain without explaining most of the story, but those are the key points. It's also really hard to think of a name because Equestria's naming conventions are different from the real world. Some families share the same last name (like the Cake Family) while other names are just different across the board (like the Apple family).

So it's really hard thinking of name that fits into this naming convention while also not trying to make the character sound like a Mary Sue. Others have suggested that the family name has something to do with the Character's talent, so maybe the characters name could have something to do with weather and painting?

I don't know, could you guys maybe pitch some name ideas and suggestions at me? Maybe I can come up with something, because I'm really stumped right now.

    bumping for visibility.

  9. The sketch

    The drawing

The first pony picture I'm proud to have my name on. seriously, in the three years I've been doing pony art, this is the very first picture I can look at and feel pride, can look at and not think "I sure wish I could've done that better" or "That didn't come out like it looked in my head." The only thing I can find wrong with this picture is that I didn't paint Dash in the style I wanted to, I wanted to do a complete digital painting of her, but I found a cool shading and lighting technique that balanced it out, so it's good enough for now.

  10. So it's like 1:30 AM right now. I got home from dropping my friend off and I noticed the sky was completely clear. Absolutely no clouds.

I decided to look at the stars. Like I always do, I find Orion first, because he's the easiest to spot. And as my eyes focused I started seeing more and more stars, and off to the right of Orion I saw this odd cloud looking thing. I at first thought it was a smudge on my glasses or my breath but I could even see it in my periphery when looking at other stars. It reminded me of nebula dust like on the arm of the Milky Way.

As I continued to look at it this cluster of faint tiny stars came into view that seemed to be moving around a center star in this squarish rhombus pattern. They seemed to be moving around in different formations and appeared to be streaking around like little bugs.

I did some research and this is what I found:

The Pleiades star cluster – also known as the Seven Sisters or M45 – is visible from virtually every place that humanity inhabits Earth’s globe. It can be seen from as far north as the north pole, and farther south than the southernmost tip of South America. It looks like a tiny misty dipper of stars.

For northern hemisphere viewers, the cluster is above and to the right of Orion the Hunter as one faces south, and it transits -- reaches its highest point in the sky, midway between rising and setting -- around 4am in September, midnight in November, and 8pm in January.

The cluster contains hundreds of stars, of which only a handful are commonly visible to the unaided eye. The stars in the Pleiades are thought to have formed together around 100 million years ago, making them 1/50th the age of our sun, and they lie some 130 parsecs (425 light years) away.

That sounds a lot like what I saw, and it makes sense for how long it took my eyes to focus to see them. My friend is super jealous because he's an aspiring astronomer/meteorologist and he doesn't have very good vision so he couldn't focus like that.

It was really cool to see, almost thought I was looking at a UFO for a moment. :o

  11. "Stop gaming"

    2k hours of tf2

    300 hours of dota

    500 hours of minecraft

    200 hours of other games

That's 3000 hours I could've spent on things that actually mattered... And now I don't have the strength to stop myself.

But I guess it were ours spent enjoying myself. C:

So uh, I know you don't like gaming but... Wanna play Dota together? I'm really good with Luna :)

  12.

My fear though is that if Pinkie or Dash were in a pranking mood they might steal it.

I can only manage being pranked like that and Rarity looking over from her Chaise lounge and commenting to Twilight about me compared to other stallions

  13. One suggested name for her father was "Roy G. Biv". If you're looking for a name to use, Spectra would be nice for a Rainbow Dash relative as well. Basically anything light spectrum, rainbow, or weather related, and it would be nicer to meaningfully combine any more than one of those.

Out of the four different forum threads this is the only response that has come remotely close to answering the question.

Don't get me wrong, there've been some good answers, but you can only take so many "Rainbro Dash" jokes.  :yay:

More to the point though, based on what you said what would a sister of Rainbow Dash be called? And would it stick to the conventional naming methods where they keep the last name? It seems that MLP does this selectively. You have the Cake family where everypony shares the same last, but then you have the Apple family where everypony is named after an apple.

Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. I need names. female names for a Dash relative  B)
