  1. Another pretty cute book on Berrow's part. I think she did a decent job portraying Discord adapting into having friends, and the Mane Six treat him pretty nicely here too. He has his mishaps but learns to overcome them. So I'm pretty cool with his interpretation here, it felt a bit more natural and not exaggerated like in his latest episode. Also the ending of the book is pretty cute.

  2. Don't get me wrong. I respect "pollar opposite" trope. I myself ship Daring Do with Ahuizotl. I just like when there is some honesty and chemistry. with Darizotl there is this eternal struggle between them that force them to know eachother and bond like Tom and Jerry. There is no FoeYay relationship between Celestia and Discord it feels like he is just one of her nuisances along with Chrysalis and Sombra. Their entire interaction is indifference which is worse than frienemy realtionship he have with Twilight. All the kind things she did  to him seems like opportunistic calculative kindness for future profit.  Not naive but idealistic kindness of Fluttershy. Choosing Fluttershy was just a strategy that she could reverse if she failed. Before S3 i was expecting that Celestia going to have her own episodes where she try to reform him and do the things that he already did with Fluttershy. But there were not even any "off screen" tea parties in Canterlot and she only started to become a Rainbow Dash level of friend with him after S4.

Mind boggling are the ideas to still match them together unless it's some sort of a "thrill" about a romance between a brave and strong Jasmine type of Princess and Jaffar type of villain. Some kind of fantasy to stain her authority as a ruler with his villanious naughty charm as opposed to him changing from  a beast into a prince by Belle? I noticed that in most FlutterCord pics there is a scary looking monster turning into sap with Fluttershy while in most Dislestia pictures, he is dominating her and wrap around her like a snake that seduce her. Either way, im glad that Season 5 turned the way it was and I am very content with his current depiction.

I'm not into it because of th Foe Yay trope man. I already explained why I like the idea. And to her, he isn't on the same plane as Chrysalis or Sombra are. But I can understand the indifference perspective to an extent because of what the show has presented us, specially on Discord's part. Which is very interesting to ponder about, she was the one who sealed him initially and was free for the thousand years he was sealed. I can entirely understand him having some resentment or uncomfortableness about her. She seems more okay about him though, nothing groundbreaking, just simple "okay cool". I think that whole thing could actually make for an interesting episode to show the kids that talking it out with someone you where once on bad terms with, could actually end up making you nice friends, or at least be on good terms.

And dude, there's also enough fan art out there of Discord and Tia related that's just amusing or silly stuff. I've noticed that kind of stuff is what shared around more.

Regardless, I think I can entirely agree with you on that bit. I've enjoyed how they've approached his character so far, despite seeing missed opportunities. I just hope they to take advantage of his full potential and fledge him out.

  3. I agree on the Changelings co-existing with ponies if they feed of their love in a manner that doesn't affect them. Seeing this compromise or possible agreement of sorts would be very interesting in the show. Or at least how they can arrive to such a conclusion.

  4. Actually Dislestia turn big after Return of Harmony. That episode had Discord as the most related character to Celestia by implying that they shared something beside hate. Of course FlutterCord also started to exist. Weaver made the first comic about them as a joke and the ship itself was overshadowed by Dislestia and PinkieCord. Even i was shipping them throughout S2 until S3.

That's common knowledge man. And it wasn't what I was referring to.

However Fluttershy turned out to be more developed and interesting character that actually felt sympathethic toward Discord while Celestia only not only lost her remainig respect and competence as a ruler but only shown that she only interact with him when she wanted something and never gave him benefit of the doubt when he left Elements of Harmony "just in case" to Twilight. She never gambled or truly believed in him like Fluttershy did and she deserved his betrayal in S4

I can somewhat agree on the way Celestia has been handled. I have not been to fond of her handling during most of the McCarthy run. Though, she did gamble. The whole Discord thing was a gamble since KCAFO. A gamble she technically lost in the Tirek two parter.

And I can't blame her for leaving the Elements as just in case. Considering the guy's history she was only playing it as safe as possible and as beneficial for both sides as possible.

As to Fluttershy, because that's how she is, that's the whole reason Celestia tasked HER. Because she knew Fluttershy was the one to most likely come to the fairest result with Discord. I think what makes Flutters and Discords friendship so special and beautiful is the aftermath, the fact that he got used to her and she being the sweet accepting girl she is being cool with it.

  5. I highly doubt that, I'm more inclined to thing the "nerds can be heroes" approach. Lauren in part put her together like that to show that you can still be nerdy and into girly stuff and be awesome. That's the whole reason of the M6 archetypes in the show, Twilight's nerdyness is just one of the archetypes the kids can relate too.

  6. I seen his old videos, he doesn't watch any episodes nor remember any pony name except Discord, And that was just before his hiatus in the fandom. Now you are saying that he know the characters and interactions in the show and what his characters would like. And i bet he would pick one name if someone prompt him about either Dash or Pinkie Pie. But since the thread is about understanding dislestia, i guess that so far it is the most legitimate reason for this ship. At least out of every other arguments so far.

I have met him in person at the first two pony conventions he attended. And he had interacted with Nicole Oliver at Unicon. He knows who she is, and who her character is. Also the fact that it's a character that has been brought up in scripts he has read. JDL's knowledge of the show expands to the work he has done and the interactions he has had in conventions. That is enough for him to know who Celestia is and have a basic knowledge of her.

  7. He interacted with Nicole Oliver before that, they most likely set him up for this. Is not like voice actors change anything anyway. Andrea Libman ship Fluttermac since S1 and yet again there is Cheerilee/Big Mac friendship in the next episode.

I highly doubt anyone was set up for anything. It's like you're grasping at straws man.

And I don't see what the big deal is with De Lancie shipping Discord with Celestia, in the end it doesn't influence the show.  People on both sides of the shipping spectrum are making a big deal out of nothing.

  8. If it had to move, yes, CN would be the best place for it.

I don't see newcomers as a downside, though. MLP fans have always been uniquely welcoming to newcomers, and I would hate to see that change. This it, without a doubt, the best fandom around these days.

I guess it's because I haven't seen that positive outlook the fandom had a couple of years back nowadays that I see a downside. A lot of what I've seen lately has been ridiculously adamant... But I admire your optimism, hopefully if a scenario like this does happen the new additions will bring more positive attitudes.

  9. From what i have seen and read: Self-Insert.

Yeah, i actually read a several dislestia stories and read their fan comics too. From celestia's portrayal and behaviour...it's an obvious self-insert.

Many of them self-insert them her , they imagine themselves as celestia being loved/dominated/taken by discord.

Not much different than 50 shadesy of grey...

Several Fluttercord fics I've come across falls into that same hole too though....they give off that Twilight Vampire series vibe...bleh. Sadly, whichever of the two shippings, there's a lot of girls who "husbando" Discord and use the shipping to exert that.

  10. I kind of get the appeal of Fluttershy and Discord, and to an extent like it as a one sided thing that could help develop him, and adore their friendship. I can respect part of why people like it. But what kills it for me is that I feel it limits his character potential. And the latest episode cemented that view for me. Discord being tied down to only Fluttershy and not being allowed to develop full fleshed relationships with other individuals really decimates the character.

Anyways, to remain full on topic, I don't think you can ever make full sense of shipping, because many people have different interpretations. Though, that is part of the fun sometimes.

  11. Eh I like it because I see potential in the two characters for an interesting relationship (friendship or otherwise). Celestia's pretty open minded and chill, has a fun side to her and seems to be pretty clever and a smart individual, and really caring and patient. Discord likes to have fun, is very clever and knowledgable himself, enjoys a challenge, and is on the path to becoming a good friend. I think there's some base to work from if they ever decided to at least make them friends. Which is the most I want really, I could care less about shipping canonically speaking. I think he can allow her the opportunity to cut loose, and her provide him another equally knowledgeable mind to interact and share with. Also the pranks would be amusing, wether collaborative or against one another for fun.

It does kind of annoy me that people just look at their "jobs" and not who they are, specially on Celestia's side....

    That's my take on it.

As to random shipping, I've been in many fandoms, many never met shippings are actually based on character traits and personalities, it's usually just amusing character exploration. And it's actually a common thing. Of course there's always the wtf's done for the sake of fetish or wtf-ery. Regardless, shipping in the end is supposed to be fun. Why the hell people take it so damn seriously is beyond me.

  12. Could be a being from the dimension his house is in. Smooze does seem a bit sentient, but then again, so is Angel Bunny. There's also the fact that Tree Hugger being a critter expert managed to calm it down. So yeah, Smoozie may cross more onto the critter side. But I don't think if it can be considered sentient it would go down a villain path, it was to sweet.

It would be amusing if it did become a companion of sorts for Discord to have around.
