    I still don't care much for a few episodes... The breezies episode I watched for a second time, and while I understood the legitimate conflict, I'm not a big Fluttershy fan, I feel like Fluttershy is prone to making a huge deal out of things like these and this episode just didn't feel to me like it meant anything. I also have some trouble fumbling through first season episodes because they hadn't established the 'family programming' approach to the show yet. Not that I really hate them, they're just odd to watch now because it feels like going to a time where everything was just trying to settle properly. NO CLUE what I'd call the WORST episode beyond the one in paragraph 1

    Actually I didn't think about S5 E1... While those characters who saved the day aren't quite "background ponies" as we know them, they're still side characters. I'm wide open to side characters having some bearing on the plot

    Well for myself, I just feel like they've done things in a way that makes the Mane 6 appear to have 'mastered' friendship. We can argue we're still early in the season (although for the purpose of how many stories there've been, we ARE pretty premature), but I feel like thus far there isn't much remaining room FOR growth stories for the Mane 6, excepting maybe Rainbow, who still is clearly not there yet, and maybe Rarity, only because I feel like I haven't seen her knowledge of friendship expressed much at all throughout the series. Either way I hope we do get to see more of the Mane 6 in the way that we saw them in earlier seasons - a bunch of best friends getting to learn from each other.

    I wondered this as well. What Silver Letter said is true... I don't think Iron Will was in the wrong as a result of Fluttershy taking HIS advice. I think maybe he does truly inspire some confidence in ponies, but he is portrayed as being just a complete villain, which I don't really like so much.

    I saw Jurassic World last night. MAN, was it silly. I'll have to watch The Iron Giant five times to offset the silliness of JW.

    I agree, MLP ISN'T about the fandom.. I guess it's nice that they even acknowledge our existence. I personally liked the pacing because it felt like we actually see a Slice of Life for each of these more prominent BG characters. I think what I REALLY want to see is a better fleshing out of the tertiary characters (if the backgrounds are considered "fourth-level" characters) - characters we see more often who have decently defined personalities like Cheerilee and Bulk Biceps. I would love to hear more about their origins, especially Cheery. One of the IDW comics actually focuses on Cheerilee having a twins sister named Cherry... not that I'd call it canon, but I wouldn't mind that being incorporated.

    Yeah, I'm with this. I like the idea of focusing on background characters a lot. This episode was an exaggerated version of that which really, like I said, felt like super high-quality fan material more than an official episode (and like Nervous Stitch said, it doesn't resonate as much with the target audience), but I'd be open to more characters getting a hair of depth. I'm not on making entire episodes about individuals, like Derpy and stuff... leave THAT to the fandom, but I do want to see them more with a liiiitle characterization. On that one, I gotta ask... What do you mean? You don't see them as actual characters, just filler?

    I for one really enjoyed the complete change of feel that "Slice of Life" brought. I think MLP is moving away from focus on the Mane 6 (given that Twilight, being the princess of friendship, has "mastered" friendship) and that gives room for background characters to expand. I loved the episode but I wouldn't say I want more LIKE this- I would like more episodes that give background ponies some depth like in SoL. Thoughts?

    Adored everything here... Technically YES it's canon just on the basis that it's official/"first source" material... I was watching and in my mind I said "This is bordering facfic" but either way it's canon. Someone mentioned "A" and "B" canon in another thread- A-canon being stuff that's definite and sortable, like Episode 1/1, the events of MCM, etc, and then B-canon is basically every other episode that doesn't significantly bear on the overall plot, nor have a definite location in the overall timeline Either way I think the episode was actually worth waiting 3 weeks for, and I'm sure many may disagree but I stand by that.

    That was just SOO worth the wait. I really enjoyed the episodes... especially "What is Life?" that part had me roflol for a good 5 minutes. The lesson, I thought, was AWESOME, and I think we finally got to see the real Celestia and Luna. I dunno. I'll probably watch in again in a few weeks. Very good. Very, very good.

    I feel like in Season 1 he was Twilight best friend but he sort fell out to become more of just a servant. I like his usefulness but he episodes are generally sort of boring to me, especially since he not the kind of character who is designed to "save the day". I like him but he's not made use of properly most of the time.

    I probably wouldn't go to a rock/pop-type concert alone. Jazz, maybe.... I went to a jazz concert once with a friend and I easily could have had a great time alone... just had two tickets (and needed a ride there).

Did you see someone else's analysis, which used, I think, four DEFINITE events in time, but I only remember these two: 1) Twilight comes to Ponyville 2) Twilight becomes an alicorn Two events that happen at definite times on the timeline, whereas (technically) eerything else ie speculation (although I VERY MUCH believe your timeline! It's well-done)

    Which for ME means that we get an 'extended season'- that is, during the season's run it'll end a bit later than it would've without all the breaks, haha! I'm willing to wait, but man I'm anxious. Better be a good one...

    I would watch it if it were somehow about a time paradox where all of the Mane 6 met as fillies... SOMEthing like that..... Or in my mind it could focus on Celestia as the main character during the time Nightmare Moon was banished... Although that wouldn't be severely 'brony'-aimed. I like he show the way it is really, so maybe my ideas would work for more of a spin-off.

    Hi, everypony- pardon my sort of flooding this forum with these posts. Right now I'm looking around for some good drummers, electric guitarists and trumpet players who would be interested in participating in the Equestria Big Band, but we are also open players of other various instruments as well. We are currently passing out parts and practicing right now, gearing up for our first recording, my arrangement of "Winter Wrap Up".     Funny, I didn't consider that there were literally only two reason why someone would remove a brohoof when I made this topic. It was more of a response to the other topic about why you WOULD brohoof things. Go figure

    This is something I thought about yesterday... to us, they DO just sort of fill the space. But heck , each of them is designed and characterized in SOME way, and rather particularly in some cases, so it's tough to just brush them off when they actually are almost as recurrent as the Mane 6 sometimes.

    I recently have been wondering about Colgate/Minuette. I notice her a LOT in the crowds (that fact itself gives her some specific character traits). Also the creme-colored mare with pink and blue mane. Don't know her name, unfortunately, but (EDIT: Sweetie Drops!) she seems to be in an actual majority of the episodes in the series.

    Oh I LOVE the long version! It's so much of just... More. Like I generally tend to skip the title sequence when watching the show, but the long version theme song is just charming loveliness. Heh :3
