  1. "When in mortal danger, when beset with doubt, run in little circles, wave your arms and shout!" Frankly, it's the most common response to a crisis, like, ever...
  2. Aww, don't be silly! Meeting other people is one of the reasons we're here in the first place, isn't it? And looking for people roughly your age is quite understandable too. So, I'm 26,5 y.o. - two months older than you, judging from your profile atleast. I've been a brony since Season 2, around June 2012. Aside from being a full time avid pony fan, I have a plethora of interests, including: Warhammer 40000 (my fan level goes through the roof, I love it so much!) History (any period, any area, I'll eagerly learn anything - includes natural history) Nature and animals - from a walk through the park to watching breathtaking vistas on TV. I have special place in my heart for pristine ecosystems of the North, like Scottish Highlands or Canadian Forests. I could live there... As far as animals are concerned, I go squee on all reptiles and corvids (crows, rooks and ravens). Yes, even Alligator Snapping Turtles. Documentaries on already mentioned History and Nature (I was watching every possible doc on Discovery, Nat Geo and Animal Planet since I was 13) Pets - I had two dogs, including a Great Dane, and currently have a russian tortoise. I am quite interested in cats, especially Russian Blues, witch I'd like to befriend (you can't really "have" a cat) sometime in the future... Public Health - I have a major in this area, so I am rather savvy. Fashion/personal styles - I may lack any real expertese, but I have some concrete ideas and opinions. Cars - especially italian ones, espcially mine... Quality art - mostly paintings and photography (no "modern art" though) Military - history of conflicts, weapons and equipment, and recent War on Terror Music - I love a good musical piece, and would exchange favourites to expand my horizons Electric guitars Psychology Humor - I like funny stuff and I'm actually very playful. I am also a proponent of a thing called Occult Science, witch is something akin to a scientific religion. Kind of. So I am quite eager to discuss philosophical, ethical and religious topics in an open minded and rational manner. No topic is out of discussion. So, take a pick. Or not - your choice. Either way, nice to meet you!
  3. There's an external audit at my office on Monday, and naturally everyone is running in little circles desperately trying to bend the reality to lofty procedures...

      what is an "audit" ?

Basically, if your company has quality control certificates, like ISO 9001, it is the WORST, POSSIBLE, THING! On a more serious note, an outside company comes in and checks if you do everything according to procedures. If their findings are unsatisfying, the company may even lose the certificate, and that's a really bad thing.

  4. Ponies occationally cover their cutie marks. For example, mares do so while wearing gowns on formal occasions, but doing so permamently, or atleast at work, even though one's occupation does not require to wear clothes coverting that area (as proven by Fancypants, pants are not regarded as a necessary item of clothing in order to dress smart), some may do so because of various reasons. For once, if somepony were hiding their identity, they can't really change their marks as easily as their manestyles and names. In case of the aforementioned two, it's either a part of a costume chosen by the show staff to convey some kind of look (Daddy Mc Colt looked like a redneck peasant in those pants), or maybe a pony's cutie mark, in their opinion, doesn't sit well with their occupation - that would be my guess with Svengalop. I'd suggest heis special talent isn't managing celebrities, and he may think that showing his butt stamp would hinder him at work, or make a dent in his reputation as a professional. So, there it is: either visual gag, an attempt to hide one's identity, or hide one's talent witch doesn't correspond with current line of work. Or they were teased and prefer to hide their marks because of it.
  5. Well, generally speaking, people tend to view magic as means to do practically everything, and since Unicorns are the only pony race (excluding Alicorns, naturally) capable of conciously appying their innate magical power through spells, it makes them the "Master Race" in many people's eyes. Unfortunately, the show itself showers the audience with awe inspiring shows of magical prowess, while the boring bit of learning magic is overlooked. We know that most "regular" unicorns have little juice inside them, and don't really pursue any magical abilities besides the mighty useful psychokinesis, and some spells corresponding to their cutie mark or vocation - these are called "natural" spells, either learned spontaniously or academically, but with great ease. All Unicorns can learn other, non-natural spells, but the amount and complexity depends on their inborn magical prowess. Take Rarity for example - Her Cutie Mark represents her natural magical ability to find gems, because she learned a complicated spell out of thin air, but other than that, she uses mostly psychokinesis to levitate objects, more often than not dozens at a time, or sew with a needle rather than sewing machine. There are also, special cases - Unicorns with more raw power than average. These, with dedicated tuitition, could become adepts of magic in various areas, much like sciencists actually. If you read between the lines, the show's canon implies that advanced magic is more akin to a branch of science than universally accessible method of doing things. And if it takes an Einstein (or Twilight Sparkle, since she's one of the most powerful and magically educated Unicorns in canon) to transform an apple into an orange, then I see no reason to blow the horn for Unicorn racial superiority - they have the most powerful individuals, but as a race, they depend on other ponies. The racial interdependence of Equestria is to be cherished, rather than shunned, in my opinion.
  6. Apparently she was present at Twilight's Friendship lecture in Cutie Re-Mark: Maybe not all is lost... She may have been forgotten by the fandom, but I hope to see her occasionally in the background, witnessing the events with her trademark unamused expression. Ehh, I just don't know what went wrong, fandom.
  7. Oh yes, tea... Quite frankly, it's the only beverage I drink besides bottled mineral water, and a cup of Hot T is first on the very short list of things that can actually wake me up in the morning. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of Ice Tea. Nowadays I mostly drink Black tea, or Green tea with some fruit, spice or herb, like blueberry, cinnamon or my all time favourite - mint (the stronger the better). Although I won't shy away from White tea, or any other blend or mix I can taste. One day I intend to make my own mix, if I can find a supply for ingredients that is. I usually add sugar, and sometimes milk too.
  8. Actually, in some cases I might experience a sudden influx of paranoid thoughts, yes. Fortunately, it's nothing severe. The most common situations arise from interpreting social cues, like whenever my manager is actually snarky or just tired, or if the sudden muffled laughter I've heard from behind me is somehow related to my behaviour, and of course there are those small talks that seem to go nowhere and make me think if what should I do in order to save the conversation from going increasingly awkward. Other examples include spotting a group of young adults on the street and somehow percieving them as as a group of hooligans looking for someone to mug (bonus points if they have beer bottles and/or it's dark), having someone walk behind me for some time, and... planning where to park my car in unfamilliar places. So, yeah, that would be it, I think.
  9. When I drive to work, it's still dark. When I drive home from work, it's already dark. If not for the window at my office, I would've thought that Nightmare Moon has shrouded this misbegotten country in eternal darkness...

I found some pills, and I ate them! Just kidding. It's just that "the worse the better" coping mechanism kicking into overdrive. Basically for the whole day at work nothing worked as intended, and for a few hours the heating was off, despite -15 degrees Celcius outside. TL:DR - I'm crrrazy!

  16. Personal art style is one thing, and as far as I'm concerned, every artist is free to draw their ponies the way they want, not just show accurately. The key issue is whenever an OC made in specific, non-canon style could be translated into show accurate style without looking totally out of place, or like some mutant. So as far as looks are concerned, the artist's style is not an issue, but rather keeping the canon rules witch make the character believeable and normal looking when translated to canon style. Example - making an OC with a high fantasy unicorn fetlocks and a long doglike tail won't pass the transcription into canon realities, but giving them spots on their coat like a Palomino horse may work.

Just a "quick" repaint of the walls coupled with cleaning everything. Even floor under the cabinets. Sounds reasonable and easy, untill you actually do it. If I never use a paintbush again it will be too soon. Oh and I live in an apartment building, so it'll be hard do derp so hard it'd collapse ^^

  20. All it takes for Evil to triumph, is that good men do nothing. Or something like that. Seriously though, it's true. MLP Villains are evil because they had no one to turn them back from the path of evil. Having friends who would atleast try to convince them that it's not the way would reduce the amount of antagonist significantly. Twilight mused whenever, perhaps, shattering one friendship, and one so important too, could weaken all friendships in Equestria. A kind of ripple efect. While the alternate timelines may very well support this theory, since no other force was able to stop the villains when there were no Mane 6, and every next timeline was worse from the last, I tend to view friendship as a non-arcane kind of magic, so to speak. Rather, it's "magic" (and a White variety too) because it promotes a plethora of positive results, asking for nothing in return. You don't pay for friendship. It's free, like sunlight. And like with sunlight allowing pants to grow, so do friendships help friends grow in their mutual light. So, natutally, when friendship weakens, there is more strife and chaos, and in such conditions it's that much harder to fight against a changeling swarm, for example.
  21. Just a quick update: I'm not hibernating, but rather got caught by an avalanche of tasks to do. I'll try to respond to PM's as fast as as I can though.

Thanks everyone - the opening weeks of new month usually mean tons of work, and on top of that, I was suddenly delegated to kitchen renovation in the house. Not to mention the usual frantic pre-Hearts Warming activities. Fun!

  22. A non-unicorn pony villain would be a very refreshing pick. The idea of some random unicorn getting their hooves on old artefacts of power to further their own ends is getting a bit stale. (sorry Trixie and Starlight) Personally, I'd love to see an earth pony or pegasus criminal mastermind, running a secret organisation from the shadows, not unlike Moriarty and Blofeld. One could make a whole season, starting with the Mane 6 fighting some decent miniboss and finding a clue that they were working for someone. Thorought the season, some minor and major occurences would lead them to the crimelord, one thwarted evil plan at a time. Of course the finale would be a some kind of showdown, complete with passionate villanious speeches about how they believed they were benefitting Equestria with their morally unacceptable acts. It would be nice if they stayed evil, or atleast unredeemed but powerless, but some reasonable redemption would be fine too, I guess.

  24. At high school all I had to do was read my notes right before the exam once, and maybe skim through the part of the textbook that was being tested. At the university I changed tactics - usually around a week before the test I took all my notes and "distilled" them several times. The actual process involved re-writing my notes in a clear, comprehensible way, and removing irrelevant information. Sometimes adding some information from other sources too, but my notes usually sufficed. After 3 or 4 runs I had neat compressed notes I read every day untill the exam. So basically I learned by writing and reading.
