I think Josh Haber has made some pretty good stuff. And while the old guard isn't going to be there for this season, then I'm not going to condemn it before having watched at least the first half of the season. It might be not-as-good as the previous season, but I still think it will be a fine season.

So the elements of harmony and s6...
Arrowstormen replied to Unlikeable Pony's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Considering that the elements have been out of the game since Princess Twilight Part 2, no, I don't think we'll see them return, and I don't think we'll see a replacement of them. The fact that the two two-parters this season hasn't used a Friendship Orbital Cannon is a huge plus in my book as well.- 4 replies

I still think I have to give it to season 2, but I hear a lot of people claiming they think season 5 is the best one, so I'm a bit uncertain right now. I think the show has slightly changed from season to season, so comparing the two is a bit tough. Those are certainly the ones in the lead, with season 4 slightly behind.

Independent? Applejack is incredibly family-based, I think she would be the one to cause the least uproar if she got a special somepony. Twilight would probably cause the most uproar, followed by Rainbow Dash. I don't personally think the uproar would be that big if Fluttershy got a special somepony, as long as that pony isn't abusive or something.

Well, Sci-Twi became momentarily evil in Friendship Games, and there are tons of examples of the Mane Six being mean or "evil" for a bit in the slice of life episodes before learning the errors of their ways. That might not be what you were thinking of, but I doubt we will see any "good" recurring characters become evil and then not become good again at the end of the very same episode, or the episode after.

I personally think this was better than season 4. It had more s-tier material than season 4 had for me (where Pinkie Pride and MAYBE Twilight's Kingdom gets that ranking), and I thought the average episode was better than the average episode in season 4. The great episodes in season 4 were really great, but the other factors just edges it out. I think season 2 is still the season to beat, the show gets a bit different with every season, so it's getting hard to compare, but season 2 is still the only season to have both a lot of s-tier episodes and a lot of great episodes, where season 5 digs a bit into the great tier pile for the s-tier stuff. That's just my opinion of course though.

I think the alternate reality versions (and the filly versions) of the rest of the Mane Six gave them plenty of spotlight, and the whole point was how important their friendship was. For this story, I don't think it would have worked at all to have them be part of the time travel. I also think the Twilight spotlight was mostly dealt with in season 4, where Twilight had become princess, and it was a theme of the season where that put her and her friends. In the premiere, they thought she was too important to go with them, but in the end, they had to all go together to beat the challenge (even when Twilight charges back, she almost gets beat by the plants until the rest of the Mane Six saves her). In the finale, we got Ultimate Princess Twilight, but once again, she couldn't beat Tirek without her friends and showing Discord friendship (thereby getting the last key). And the premiere of this season was the first two-parter to not have Twilight be the main-mane character. In conclusion, I don't think the two parters put Twilight on a pedestal as much as they showed how she's not on a pedestal. Even in the season 3 premiere, which was all about "Twilight's test" to prove she was ready to be a princess, she ultimately needed Spike and Cadence to save the day. This is also why "Twilight's kingdom" has no guards or subjects, her friendships is where her power lies. People said it was overpowered of Starlight Glimmer to be equal or even surpass Twilight's magic, but as far as I remember, we've never seen Twilight beat any skilled magic-users or powerful beings without friendship.
