  1. I'm so happy to see Starlight, Discord and Trixie are going to be in the first episode! Nice to see Thorax and the other changelings too.

Also, a special mention for DJ Pon3!

  2. 1. Zecora - a controversial choice perhaps but she annoys the hell out of me, and that rhyming thing considerably limits her potential as a character. I cringe every time she's on-screen. The speaking-in-rhyme trait also doesn't suit characters in this type of show - I'd expect to see it in a character from a different type of cartoon series.

    2. Snips and Snails - Both annoying, enough said.

    3. Maud Pie - a one-joke character that was never funny in the first place.

  3. It was an all right episode, nothing special. The problem was that Fluttershy's brother was annoying - and not annoying in a good way like Discord - just annoying. At first I thought I was going to really hate this episode, but it improved considerably when we came back to Ponyville. There were a few laughs - Fluttershy's brother (why can't I remember his name?) tricking Spike into cleaning all the windows gave me a laugh out loud moment. Plus the song was an unexpected bonus.

  4. Rarity's getting too much screen time this season. Why couldn't Applejack's spa partner have been Fluttershy? We've barely seen her this season and this was an opportunity to balance out the mane six's screen time a bit. Apart from that, I liked this episode. It was a nice 'quiet' episode - nothing major happened, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. And with Applejack being my favourite of the mane six, I was glad to have an episode based around her. It was also nice to see Spoiled Rich again.

Also, why are there pigs on Applejack's farm? It's not as if ponies eat sausages, is it?

  5. I thought it was a pretty good if somewhat unremarkable episode - a bit unusual (not necessarily a bad thing) and quite funny. Actually, the biggest laugh I had was seeing that the DJ upstairs just happened to be DJ PON-3 (is she stalking the mane six?). Three times her name has been mentioned now (twice in this episode) and all three were in season 6. Why is this? Also they seem to pronounce the 'PON' part of her name to rhyme with 'cone'. Am I hearing correctly? Before I heard it spoken I always assumed that it rhymed with 'Jon'. Initially I gave this a 6.5/10 rating, but I think this is the type of episode that will grow on me - I'll have to see when I give it another watch in a day or two.

  6. I thought that was great - an 8.5 out of 10 for me. The story was engaging and the comedy made me laugh. I like what they're doing with Starlight Glimmer - I expected that after being reformed she'd be a meek, obsequious character with no discernible characteristics of her past, but it's clear from this and The Crystalling that she still has a strong personality and continues to display the occasional flash of anger. I was also happy to see DJ Pon3's name become canon at last.

  7. There were some great little references to famous artists during the part where Tree Hugger is being painted:

A Salvador Dali lookalike pony (with his wonderfully distinctive moustache) painting her in a Dali-esque surreal manner.

A Picasso pony doing a Picasso type painting.

An Andy Warhol lookalike doing an imitation of Warhol's famous Marylin Monroe picture.

  8. I wasn't really looking forward to this one for a number of reasons. First, I wanted to see more of Starlight and her friendship lessons, second I wasn't sure about an episode with just Pinkie and Rarity from the mane six, and third I'm not a Maud fan. I get why some really like her, but to me she's an uninteresting one-joke character - though admittedly she did make me laugh a few times here. One thing I'd like to ask is: is this the first episode with just Pinky and Rarity from the mane six? To be honest, I can't really remember these two characters interacting much in the past anyway, but then I've got a poor memory for past episodes.

Overall, I thought it was a below-average episode with a weak plot. But on the good side, there were a few funny moments.

    Best moment: Rarity imitating Pinkie

Funniest line: "I'm gonna love it five-ever! That's even longer than four-ever."

  9. I don't tend to like season openers all that much, but I liked that. It wasn't fantastic, but it left me with a nice warm feeling inside and a lot of optimism for the rest of the season. The main plot was pretty standard for a season opener - not to mention predictable (I think most of us guessed that Sunburst was going to save the day), but the side plot with Starlight Glimmer was great.

The main thing I'll take from this episode is the Spike/Starlight dynamic. They were great together, and I'm hoping we'll get to see them interacting a lot more in the future.
