I think the ponies voiced by special guest stars are less likely to occur which sadly means less likely to ever see Cheese Sandwich or Quibble Pants ever again. I also doubt we will ever see Felicia Day’s pony again not just because it is Felicia Day but because of who that pony is in the storyline. I would like to see Lightening Dust show up and be redeemed.

Except the movie had a lot of violence later including Spike burning Storm King’s men, Storm King statue crashing, and other such usually not so MLP action scenes. With all the slavery imagery and other violence, it is hard to understand why they couldn’t do a little more to have the princesses fighting back. In Celestia’s case she had didn’t expect anything to break through her shield, but the others?

They can reference events or characters that exist in both AU, I just have the head cannon that the specific movie version is AU since the timing doesn’t make sense.

I just have headcanon that the movie is alternate universe so doesn’t directly correlate time wise.

I am new enough to MLP to not be sure of everything but it seems to me this castle of Twilight’s isn’t doing much and her role as princess is still unclear beyond spreading friendship. I want there to be development into how Twilight as a princess fits into the big picture of Equestria. Her castle has no guards, she isn’t in charge of a particular territory, and right now she seems to just be lost with little to do. Can people petition her for favors as one normally does with royalty? Does she have to settle diplomatic disputes? Shouldn’t her castle be used for something more than just a map? What kind of big princess decisions does she need to make? I would like to see the rest of the main 6 officially as her court (they have thrones after all, right?) and Celestia to give her official reign over some regions to ease the burden on Celestia and Luna (much like Cadence has the Chrystal Empire). But again, I am new enough I don’t know how much sense this makes.

The two times I went it had a few people in there but not many. More than I expected but less than needed for it to be a good run.

It was hard to choose between "This Day" and "Open Up Your Eyes". I accidentally clicked on This Day before I realized I could vote for Open Up Your Eyes which would have won for me. Interestingly, I consider "I'll Fly" by Rainbow Dash a villain song. To anyone but her, she's The Grinch stealing away winter. With lyrics like, "I know it's wrong but what does it matter?" or "I hate to sabotage you, but you see I've got to try," it is completely a villain song from any other view but her own. Plus, it happens before she destroys the weather station with more sabotage. With that view, I think it is one of my favorite villain songs, but Open Up Your Eyes or This Day would still win.

I think you are saying what I mean a lot better than I did. Her horn is broken because of the bear and that is a sad part of life. However, it is her reaction to it being broken that causes her problems. She believes without the horn that she can not be enough.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. Also, it would make the big villains less worrisome with so many heroes around. We have the elements back and the heroes of legends? That’s a bit overpowering.... I think it is best if they don’t stick around too much. (And shouldn’t at least SS be talking in the old language?)

Saw it today with kids loudly dancing in the aisles but I thought that added to the fun. Better than last time when some kids was screaming “Don’t hurt Pinkie” over and over again for minutes after the scene with the horn.

I remember when Twilight finished Starswirl's spell back when she got her wings, it was mentioned SS didn't understand friendship and that was why he was unable to finish it himself. It makes sense that when Twilight brings him back, he doesn't understand friendship and is really a bit of a jerk. How often does that happen to us when we look up to someone only to find they are so different than the one we imagined. I do like how SS eventually starts to understand. I was at first unsure of Starlight's role, but I think it was appropriate and it was good she was someone separate from everything who could have a clearer head. She could see that banishment didn't have to be the answer. It makes sense she would see that when no one else would. I like that she isn't the one who solves everything in the end, but she gets to play a part in helping Twilight figure out how to solve the problem. I think my favorite part of the episode was learning more about the tree of harmony, it's roots/planting from the legends that seemed so similar to the mane 6 that it was nice to see there really was a deeper connection there. It was great to see the map also seemed to have an origin. The pillars that each of the legends exhibited were so much like the parts we loved of the mane 6. It's nice to see it's almost this thread of history that has led to them being this almost Knights of the Round table type of group. I did love that RD went with just taking the shield instead of risking the competition. They had, afterall, already won the race to get the shield and practicality can matter. It was some nice character development on RD's side and it was nice to see that development happen with Spike there.

I read the first two so far and I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were! I like how the CMCs are branching out to solving mysteries. While I never saw them as in their sisters’ shadows, I can see how they feel they are and it is nice to have books that get them out of those shadows. I need to get to the bookstore to read the third book! Excited to see that more are coming next year!

This post refers to the prequel book to help explain Tempest’s horn issues because it gives a lot more info in the book: I still hold based on this that the main issue was Tempest didn’t believe she was enough. Twilight didn’t believe she was enough either. Twilight’s horn sparks because in her desperation she is losing control and this was an outward sign of that. It seems to be two different and yet similar issues the two have with their horns.

I love the season 7 songs so far and I hope this means we will get more in season 8. The Equestia Girl’s music has grown on me so a little sad there but I always preferred FiM so I am okay with the change.

I am late joining in on this, but I have thought a lot about this scene and after a second viewing, I came to the following conclusions: (I hope this isn’t too long.... sorry) 1) Twilight and Tempest both suffer from the same issue. Neither of them feel they are enough as they are. Twilight has entered a world much darker than her own and she is starting to buy into that darkness. She isn’t perfect and this happens to us all from time to time. With Dash alerting their enemies, Pinkie Pie not staying covert, and her friends blindly leading them into a ponyknapper’s lair, she’s not just stressed, she is falling into despair. She is buying into the lie that she is not enough. (Hence the point of the song “We got this together.”) I gasped the moment she told her friends to have fun with the mermaids because I knew she was going to try to steal the pearl. Should she have seen another way? Yes. But at this point she doesn’t because she’s forgotten the most important fact: When she is not enough, her friends will lift her up and together they will be enough. Should she have known this? Yes. However, everypony messes up and forgets this from time to time. This is the plot of the movie and why Tempest is such a great foil for her. Since they both believe they are not enough, they each are making poor decisions. In this light, this scene isn’t just about the trope being overplayed with friends fighting, it is about Twilight having to reach a breaking point and then realize how her insecurities have led to this. 2) So when her horn sparks when arguing with Pinkie, I think she really has just lost it. She is angry at herself and her friends and the whole situation. She hasn’t even really processed what she’s done. I realize it is up to interpretation whether it was on purpose or not, but I think it was just a sign of her losing control. I don’t think she meant to threaten Pinkie Pie but I think Pinkie felt threatened. I half expected Rainbow Dash to fly between them and protect Pinkie. Regardless, it is the moment she needs to face her failings and come out the other end.

I saw the movie twice and it shows Derpy running toward Twilight. It looked like she purposely tried to save her. I do think it was Rainbow Dash that yelled and she might have gotten Twilight out of the way just in time for Derpy to take the hit instead. At the end of the movie you do see Derpy come back from stone so it definitely is not Dash’s outline. I love that the movie did use her as a heroic figure. It really was confusing, however. I’ll watch more closely when I watch this weekend. I am also still confused why Twilight never used her teleport powers or how the princesses were defeated so easily. Oh well. I still really enjoyed the movie despite the quibbles.
