I've always like the idea of Spike ending up with another dragon especially since he is a bit of an outcast to them. I would like to point out that dragons appear to live longer that other races and especially grow larger, I think it would be preferable.

Besides, since Smolder has found herself growing fond of things that are seen as too soft for dragons and due to their limited interaction on the show, I don't see them as that close. I could see her and Spike eventually forming a connection that turns romantic as adults.

My vote's on Smolder.

A tie between the dragons and griffons.

Personally, I think Gallus is going to turn out to be the heir to the Griffonstone throne, he does seem set up to maybe be the main element in his group so giving him a royal position much like Twilight's. His lack of a known background would explain why he didn't know this. It would also make sense to do this with a character we are already invested in as opposed to characters who have only appeared once, twice, or not a all before. I also think it could benefit Gallus' character development as he appears to want nothing to do with Griffonstone, even more so that other griffons for understandable reasons. 

One idea I think could be an interesting twist is if it turns out that Twilight and the griffons knew from the start that Gallus was the heir and that was the reason they had sent him to the school over any other griffon. Gallus doesn't appear to be related to any griffon who would support him, and he could assume (much like he does in multiple fan fictions I've read with him) that he was only sent to the school because no one in Griffonstone, but it could be something big for him if he discovered they sent him because they mean for him to eventually lead them someday. Gallus would certainly be reluctant to accept to position given his refusal to even go home.

Besides, I think it would be good look for him.

While the Mane 6 have been referred to as the Elements of Harmony, the heroes they looked up to and ultimately met in Shadow Play seem to referred to as the Pillars (I like to refer to them as the Pillars of Heroism). I'm all for the idea of the Young 6 getting their own sets of elements and personally I think they should be known as the Students of Unity, Unity referring to the fact that they have formed such a close bond despite coming from different homes.

The Skullivan has written a fantastic editorial on Equestria Daily talking about the Young 6 and how each of their personalities relate to the Elements. Here is a link to the article below. Please read it, since it was really well written.

Now when considering what these kids get to represent, I thought of their personalities and how they could work as a parallel to the Elements of Harmony and the Pillars of Heroism. Here's what I think their Elements would be.

Silversteam as Wonder

Yona as Pride

Ocellus as Knowledge

Sandbar as Wisdom

Smolder as Compassion 

Gallus as Friendship
