    Maybe magic held the clouds in place and stopped the water from evaporating on its own Think about it, doesn't it seem pretty magical that clouds just stay in place and need to be manipulated by the pegasi? The wild weather in the everfree is controlled by wild everfree magic, but without magic you'd just get normal weather that changes on its own Now that it's free to change on its own, nopony needs to change it and nopony can without magic how do the pegasi even fly anymore?

      the badge/shield thing on the cmc's cutie marks has three colors

      they match the mane colors of the cmcs
