  1. It's weird. The animation sucks. The morals blow. I don't understand it. Everyone in it acts ridiculous. It's my favorite MLP tie-in show.
  2. No. If you take them as what they are as opposed to what you want them to be and enjoy them on their own level, they're all mostly fine for what they are. I wouldn't call any of them especially great (though tbh I don't consider any gen to be the peak of animation or writing - sorry G4 horse homies) but nearly all of them have redeeming qualities and were beloved by their target demographics. Can't tell me nuthin' good about G3.5 though lmao, especially not that Newborn Cuties thing. Even hardcore all-gen collectors I've met hate those little suckers. I think bronies back in the early days of the fandom just despised the idea of - gasp! - being associated with something girly. Horror of horrors indeed. Despite the foundation of the fandom being, uh, what it is. Glad to see that nowadays most of them are either man enough to not give a care if someone finds their interests femmey, or man enough to openly and unabashedly love any girly stuff they find themselves drawn to.
  3. Does sloppy, on-the-cheap, outsourced cel animation made for a Saturday morning cartoon look worse then modern, extra crispy, super-colorful tween animation made with modern animation tools? All joking/facetiousness aside, I feel like it's just plain unfair to compare the two. They were made in radically different time periods under radically different circumstances. The same could be said of the other gens that followed G1; they get increasingly shinier, more polished, and more competently art directed as time goes by. G1, bless it, was strictly meant to sell toys during a time when nobody took cartoons seriously. G4 was meant to create a decent cartoon both kids and their caretakers could enjoy WHILE it sold toys. And everything in between then and now reflects the shift in that creative attitude. G5 lookin' hella fresh for a MLP property if I do say so myself. Individually detailed eyelashes? Hubba hubba.
  4. G1 with MLP Tales specifically being my favorite animated installment. The entirety of G1 is a surrealist nightmarescape where nothing makes sense and everyone is always acting, like, really dumb and weird lol. It's also just plain fun to watch, and as much as I like the toys from all gens, G1s read as the most "horsey" and least strange looking to me. Really I'm always surprised to find bronies who don't like G1 given its cartoons are the most alike G4 that we've seen (so far, eyes emoji). It captures both the high fantasy and slice-of-life elements of G4, it's just that these elements are split into two different shows. also heheuheue firefly is best poe-knee
  5. Sup, horsepeople. Is it okay if I call you horsepeople? Sure it is, 'course it is, we're all friends here. My name's Beck and I'm a fan of Mine Own Puny Horslet, or whatever they call it these days. I'm big on G4 and I'm really looking forward to G5, but I'm a fan of all MLP generations. It's a nifty little franchise and every animated installment tickles me an all-ages appropriate level of pink. My fav gen is G1, though G4 is a close second. When I'm not disrupting polite society (e.g. this thread), I work as an illustrator and concept artist. Part of my introduction to art as industry was FiM (yes, really), and I made way too much fanart for it when I was a kid getting my bearings as an artist. I still really adore drawing ponies whenever the spirit moves me. I've got a lot of pleasant memories regarding the early days of the show and I'm constantly nostalgia tripping about it. So that all sums up why I'm here. I like talking about cartoons with likeminded people, using my down time to draw fanart, and staring at websites that use a lotta pink in their designs. Match made in heaven, really. I also like reading silly fanfic, listening to the kinda indie music your parents warned you about, developing teeny video games, overanalyzing animal xenofiction, and cracking wise in an effort to make people laugh. Nice to meet you all! I hope we can be friends, and if not, I hope we can be the sorta enemies who still hang out together on weekends.
