My problem with Pipp's personality and phone addiction.
Ok, this will be a bit long post. English is not my first language, so I will use all of my knowledge here.
Disclaimer: I am not trying to act like a hater, this is just an honest complain about Princess Pipp Petals.
1.2. Explanation
As the title suggests, I have a huge problem with Pipp. In the beginning, when no one knew anything related with the new generation and we only had the trailer, I was fascinated with her look, because reminded me of Rarity, my favorite Mane 6. My thoughts were "I like purple, I like pink, two beautiful colors in one pony!"
SpoilerDisclaimer 2: she still being pretty for me, that's not the point of this.
When the movie released, she became the least favorite Mane 5, and my fascination for her dropped. Unlike Rarity, that can be dramatic and a bit cocky but a nice person, Pipp is just a spoiled girl who loves social networks, she's a stereotypical little princess, not like her older sister.
1.2.1. Personality
And what do I have to say about her personality? Is one dimensional, is obnoxious, the way of speaking is horrible, and she barely has had some development in the series.
SpoilerYes, that's the first season, but the rest of the Mane 5 have had more deepness in the whole 8 episodes than her.
Her only "real" problems are singing and her smartphone.
2.1. Addiction
I'm fully aware that MLP is a child-oriented franchise, so this point concerns me. When I realized Pipp is a phone addicted, I thought they will deal with it as a sensitive topic. However, the series makes it look like something normal. Sometimes, she doesn't pay attention to others, Pipp is very busy with her live stream to talk to anyone. Here's the worst part: no one try to tell her that's wrong (Hitch even laughed for this behavior on one occasion).
She's portraying a negative image and a bad example for children, especially girls. Well, do you think that's parents' responsibility? Yes, but kids show must be educational and teach nice life lessons, not encourage them to normalize phone addiction.
In conclusion
I really hope Pipp's personality improves during the Make Your Mark series! And she can overcome the phone addiction: using it without fall into an obsession.
