The one question I don’t see asked enough in this thread is… Why?:rarity-huh:

Well, if I were to take a guess, I think it might be an attempt to imitate the success of A Minecraft Movie? But I could be wrong.

Minecraft is a videogame. I would rather say Barbie. After the success of that movie, films based on toys have been slowly becoming a trend (again, it already kinda was in the past). The Hotwheels movie has already been announced and the He-Man and the Master of The Universe movie is already in production.

Let's remember that Hasbro themselves aren't new to such thing. They already made 7 Live-action Transformers movies and 3 G.I. Joe movies, and the two are apparently going to crossover in the next movie.

So I'm personally not surprised by this, except that MLP is maybe just too fantastical when compared to these other IPs, so it may be harder to make a live action based on it. But they made giant robots that can transform into vehicle work in live-action, so maybe they can make ponies work as well.

  2. Hi, I really don't know if I'm the best person to give a answer, since I'm not sure if I can still be considered a brony, I still like G4, but I'm not in love with it anymore as I used to be. But for a time I really got obsessed with these ponies. I admit that at the beginning, I did feel some embarrasment as well, but after watching a lot of episodes, I quickly decided to be open about it in the internet. Nearly a month later I was making MLP related posts everywhere, drawing the ponies, etc. Eventually my family became aware of it, as I even drew Derpy in one of my (now broken) cups, and it was completely normal for me and them.

So I personally believe this isn't a question to be answered with "how" but with "when". It depends from person to person when they will be more open about the things they love, some will be like me and will do it quite fast, while others will feel more embarrased to do it due to multiple different reasons and will take more time for it, and that's completely normal. Just a guess, but given how you're a guy, maybe MLP is the first "girly" show you fell in love with and that's still something quite new for you, could be one of the reasons you feel this way and that's fine. You'll have your own right time to be more open about it, don't worry.

Unless you want to rush things. So, what I can recommend is just doing the same I did by joining this forum a few months after I finished watching FiM. Engage with MLP communities and other fans more. It will very likely make you more used to it, naturally leading you to opening yourself about it more and more.

    Hope it helps ~☆

We're they all going to be bat ponies at the start of G5?

What? No, they said Bat ponies were planned to be introduced later on, but the series was cancelled before that. Read what's written in Otaku-Sempai's previous posts or in Equestria Daily:

That seems to be semi-official pre-production art (subject to change) for Tell Your Tale. Are you sure that porter is just a fan and wasn't a member of the TYT production team? The latter is he impression that I get.

This is my first concept of it and it's subject to change as we work on it, we currently have no official concept or descriptions of Nocturnas, so this is 100% my own work.

@Otaku-sempai I admit this confused me, but I made some little research and I think i already got the answer:

    1. First, porter is just the one who uploaded these arts to the site, it's just a normal user.
    2. The artist is actually "shad0w-galaxy", she's an artist who likes to do G5 fan art. You can find her accounts on sites such as Twitter:
      (other accounts here:https://shad0wgalaxy.weebly.com/
    3. As far as I've seen, she doesn't say anywhere that she's someone who officially worked on the production of TyT or anything related to G5 or Hasbro.
    4. You can clearly see in some of her work that what she does is fan art, some literally are called "concept art", featuring designs for the "Ponyverse" or "Season 3", which is something that the production unlikely came even close to working on something official for it, at least in visuals: https://ponerpics.org/images/7219143?q=artist%3Ashad0w-galaxy
    5. Probably what confused you, but a lot of artists like to do art and make them look like concept arts for official productions, it's a recurring thing, their intention isn't to trick people or anything, they like do for fun and they warn when it's just fan art and not really official. This seems to be the case with this artist.
    6. And finally, she makes it very clear in the descriptions that what she does is art based on leaked official material. The reason it's written "subject to change as we work on it" is because she works in a G5 Revival Project, probably with friends and more people, there's even the link for their discord. That's why in the "bat ponies concept art" she says that it's 100% work from herself, because it's 100% a fan concept, she didn't use any official material as basis for it. It's meant to be part of this revival project, they collect what exists of official material based on the scrapped episodes, concepts, etc and do the rest to give some sort of finalization to it, so I think it's not even semi-official as it's 100% a passion project from fans who are trying to work with leaked official sources: https://ponerpics.org/images/7195434?q=artist%3Ashad0w-galaxy

Thats all, it's just part of a fan revival project where they use scrapped official material as basis for what they do, no involvement from people who worked in the official production. But feel free to do more research on this. It would be interesting to know if there's really anything official about this.

Okay, that does make me wonder whether you have similar feelings about the Student Six/Young Six (which also has only two males in the group)?

More or less. I did like Gallus and Sandbar, but more as secondary characters only. That would go for the whole Young / Student Six group actually. I liked them as support characters but they didn't work very well as protagonists for me. I don't really have anything against one or more male characters in the main cast. It's just that given my experience with the series, I don't think the male focused moments work for me, so I don't think I would like more of them. Hitch in my opinion was easily one of the weakest aspects of G5 (which already isn't good for me), and almost all of the male focused episodes of FiM were meh for me. I only liked a few of them, such as the Spike focused episodes from Season 2 ("Secret of my Excess" and "Dragon Quest", and even these still feature the girls a lot). But not the majority. I consider all of the Big McIntosh focused episodes as some of the weakest of the entire show. Spike, Discord, all of them worked perfectly as support/secondary characters in my opinion. But as protagonists, I really didn't enjoy them very much.

But that's just me, I don't know if most people also don't like male characters in the main cast. I do believe Hitch has a lot of fans though.

  6. Can't really say what I think about all the ideas and concepts. But I do think it's very interesting to see more about the production, how much of what was made for the series was discarded. I haven't seen much of the news, but the little I've seen seems like a lot of things that were planned simply didn't come to fruition. I heard multiple times that they wanted to make more of Make Your Mark. You can see how advanced in production they were, something I said multiple times a year ago when TyT was still in its weekly Season 2 release. Everything planned for the First (and only) Season of MyM was already completed in 2022, and TyT showed us this. Season 2 of TyT was already being made while they were still working in the 2 final sets of episodes for MyM.

That's why throughout the latter half of TyT's first season a lot of awkward incoherences that just don't match MyM happen. Such as the Dragons showing up in a episode that is supposed to take place before the events where they are introduced. Some episodes with Opaline not really matching the time frame presented in TyT. Spike not showing up during TyT's version of the final battle against Opaline (likely because they had to use his 3D design as basis, which still didn't exist at the time)

That means they very likely worked on a lot of concepts, ideas in 2023 that didn't make into the final show or even any of its unreleased episodes. I'm just not sure if they worked in anything in 2024 (for TyT) since I remember hearing the production was already canceled in late 2023, correct me if I'm wrong, because that would make things even weirder, as I remember hearing that some people from the production suggested in 2024 that there would be more. That wouldn't be true considering MyM was canceled in Early 2023 and I also heard about production members saying in late 2023 that there would be more MyM (again, correct me if I'm wrong)

Also, is that official art or just a fan art you choose to illustrate the ideas? I don't see any images or descriptions related to character designs in the original post. The source for this image says it's just fan-art and that there's no official concept or descriptions for these characters: https://ponerpics.org/images/7220368?q=artist%3Ashad0w-galaxy

  7. I feel that the older I get, the less I cringe at my younger self. Childhood and early youth more specifically. They were amazing for me, despite some questionable things I made at those years, I really admire how happy, easygoing and creative I used to be until my 16. I would say that I "cringe" at myself from 2022-first half of 2023. I wouldn't even use the word "cringe" but straight "disappointment", I did things at the time which for me were unforgivable and I still regret them to this day, such as abandoning a friend who was doing everything and being very good for me. And belittling my potential as a artist. My transition into adulthood was terrible (and I don't think that transition is even over yet, to be honest)

Edit: to be more clear, I constantly cringe at my current self to this day since 2022. But at least the worst phase is gone.

  10. I honestly don't know what to expect from this. I'm a bit tired of CGI cartoons nowadays (regardless if it's full animated or cartoon-ish characters in live-action). I would personally prefer just a 2D movie or another 2.5D movie like the 2017 one. But I understand why they don't want to use those techniques anymore. Well I just hope that the ponies will look visually appealing, even though I have no idea how exactly it will work, but I'm curious about it, so I'll be waiting for any future revealing images. Thank you for sharing this ~☆

  14. Hi! I think it really depends. If we are talking about sharing art solely on this site, then yes, it's a safe place. People here are very respectful and won't steal your art for anything, if they do so, they are discovered and then banned, staff is always with their eyes on people who act strange in the site, and people stealing others’ art goes to that count too. It's not the same case, but a good example was when someone shared AI generated pony images and claimed that those were arts done by them. That person was discovered and banned.

Now, what I can't tell you is if that level of security still continues outside the site. Yes, the site has a lot of trustable and respectful people, with good surveillance from administrators to prevent any scams or other bad things from happening HERE.

But that doesn't mean there won't be people who can still join the site and steal your art without anyone knowing. Such a person doesn't need to steal you art and use them in the site, they can steal and post them in different sites.

So yes, the site is secure, but people can still steal the artwork you post here and use them in different sites.

I recommend adding a “use for AI Training prohibited” advice in the drawings you'll post here, regardless of this site being secure, it's what why I do, because just like how it scares you, it also scares me.

    Hope it helps you ~☆

  15. I personally think that if there are ways for people to appreciate this generation and say good things about it, comparing it with G4 is not one of them.

Also, what's wrong with the fact that most people started watching G4 only because of the art style? People like to see things that look beautiful or visually appealing, that's normal.

Yes, I started watching G4 because mostly of the art style, I still really like it. But I also continued watching the show because I really liked the characters, world and stories. The show entertains me.

And I'm pretty sure the same goes for most people as well. They continued watching the show not only because of the art style, but because they genuinely liked the story and characters.

If people really liked it only because of the art style, then I think pretty much all anime would be a success. It's undeniable that most people (me included) only watch anime because they think it looks very appealing visually. But then why do a lot of anime just don't go well? Because these people stopped liking the art style? No, because they didn't like the story and characters. Most people start watching because of the visuals, these same people will stay if they like the story and characters. And as well, there are a lot of people who enjoy specific series because they like the story and characters, but dislike the art style. I don't doubt that this happens with some people who like TyT (or G5 as a whole). Art style isn't enough to carry people's interests in a show.

“But people only saw how good G4's writing is because the good art style allowed them to notice it”

Well, then I think it's a true mystery how a lot of shows, especially in the west, managed to be a success despite people not enjoying the art style, I saw many of them, even some anime, I already saw people saying that they like the story of a specific anime but not the art style. There are cartoons that I dislike the art style, but enjoy the story, there are a lot of people who enjoy the popular 2010's era cartoons from Cartoon Network and some other channels, but these same people say a lot how much they dislike the CalArts inspiration in those cartoons' art styles (I'm one of them). How can that be explained?

The “100% nostalgia” claim and the fact that poll only has 1000 votes on it, I don't know, doesn't mean much to me, for me that is generalizing people's thoughts on G5 based on a single poll from one fan dedicated site that, even though it is relevant, most people in the mainstream just don't know about it.

“no wonder these people can't appreciate G5's great writing, they value looks more”

Yes, I value visuals a lot, but I also value entertainment, and for me a script that entertains me is valuable. G5's script for me is just not good, In terms of it, I won't discuss, for me that goes from person to person, there are people who think G5's writing is better than G4's, that's good, G4's writing for me is a lot better, and that's good too, no need for comparisons. I could very well enjoy G5's writing regardless of the art style not being good for me, but only if the script was good for me, for me it's not and I bet the same applies to a lot of people who likes G4 and dislike G5, it doesn't entertain them like G4 does, just like how that exact same pool shows that more people voted for “story and writing” than for “art style and char design”, I would vote for story and writing too, because without it I wouldn't keep watching the series post-Season 1, as an artist, I know how visuals and art style are something very important, you need to make something that calls people's attention, especially when building a product and making characters that can stay in someone's mind.

People don't have to like G5's art style, especially because there are people who like it. For me, saying that people only like G4 because of nostalgia and art style is like spitting on the generation that was literally responsible for making G5 possible to exist, G5 exists because of G4's success.

Not everyone likes G4 or dislikes G5 because of the same reasons.

I think I am myself an example that it's not the same thing for everyone. I liked G4, MyM and TyT a lot the first time I watched them because of the hype. When I decided to rewatch them, I stopped liking G4 the same way I did, and I stopped liking G5 (in general). I didn't watch G4 when I was a kid, so how can this be 100% nostalgia? Or the art style?

I stopped liking G5 because for me it's just not fun, for me it’s boring to watch, uninteresting. G4 continues entertaining me regardless of its art style. I watched G4 for the first time only a few months before G5, and for me G4 continues to be infinitely more memorable.

Idk, trying to diminish G4 just to show how good G5 is, seems unnecessary for me, I think it doesn't help G5 in anything and it and can only anger those who prefer G4, I know a lot of G4 fans are annoying and attack G5 fans for no reason, but trying to diminish it just to say how good G5 is only asking for more war in my opinion, no matter how respectful you try to be, If you really like the product then say good things about it, saying “G5's writing is good” but not trying to develop more on that or more good things about it... dedicating 90% of a post to G4 and the supposed blind nostalgia from its fanbase, that amount could be dedicated to appreciating G5 instead. I don't need to compare G4 with G5 or other generations to say how much I like it. I think there are much better ways for a G5 fan to express how good they think the script and other things about it are.

Or better, just enjoy the two generations.

    • Brohoof 4
  16. Nearly 2 years later, I think I can pretty much say that I'll not enjoy G5 ever again. I had my ultimate disappointment with Tell your Tale a year ago in 2024, but at the time I still liked Make Your Mark and the 2021 Movie. I decided to rewatch them later and…well, I realized that I only really enjoyed them because of my hype with Ponies at the time (I just met MLP and finished G4 at the time). Like it happened with TyT, I was positive about it at first because the hype blinded me. For me none of these productions are really good, people like to say “wasted potential here, wasted potential there”, I personally honestly think that there was never really any potential at all, everything in it for me naturally feels empty and uninteresting, from world to characters. Nothing in it is really remarkable to me, for me the landscapes became memorable but only because of how incredibly bland they are, and I think visually it's even worse. For me the 3D isn't bad, but there's nothing impressive about it either, and TyT just looks bad as a whole. I really dislike the art style and the animation for me can't compare to FiM.

The only things I still like from it are the little backstory with Twilight, Spike and Opaline. The concepts surrounding the Together Trees, I still think they are very interesting, they keep many of the original concepts of the Tree of Harmony and its spiritual powers, that's something I always liked since FiM. And of course, Opaline is the one character I still enjoy from this generation, for me she's still very entertaining to watch, I would like to see a fan compilation featuring only her scenes, from both MyM and TyT, her solo episode is easily my favorite episode from TyT, I personally think she's a G4 villain in the wrong generation.

Other than these, I don't really care about the generation at all, the movie and both shows are just not for me, it's not the MLP I like, it lacks the magic that made me enjoy G4, it just feels too different from it for me, and honestly? That's perfectly fine, if their intention was to really make it feel very different from G4, I understand it, but I really prefer to stick up with G4 only.

I do have to thank it though because I only really joined the forum because I wanted to discuss the latest episodes of MyM with other fans.

And even though I don't care about it anymore, I still think Tell your Tale and the generation didn't deserve to get cancelled. There are people who still liked it and many episodes were still being worked on, so for me that was a huge mistake from Hasbro. A production not being able to be finished is never good, especially when it has fans dedicated to it (like G5 has the TyT revival project)

Nowadays I just really moved on completely from it, there's nothing more I really have to say about it and I'm not interested to see anything more about it either.

I think those who complain about it or say that it's bad should do the same, just move on, go back to enjoying G4, leave G5 and its fans alone, their community isn't big, and it might still be hard for many of them to accept that it got cancelled.

  17. Hi, I admit that it has been a while that I'm no more in the site because of MLP, but because it's a place I like and I have friends here. But about MLP, I still like G4, Equestria Girls and Pony Life/G4.5, quite less than the first time I experienced them of course, I was obsessed with MLP back then, nowadays I don't have that excitement about it anymore, but I still like it and I even still enjoy drawing ponies.

Understand the way you feel, franchise is really not in its best days. When Make Your Mark ended in 2023 it was the last time I saw the fandom in a quite noticeable hype, but the series was also a huge letdown for a lot of them, then the only thing they got in 2024 was Tell your Tale Season 2 which sucked even more for them (me included), there I think the hype was already dying very fast. Then TyT got cancelled along with G5 as a whole and that was the last nail in the coffin of the hype.

New releases helps a fandom to feel more alive, call the attention of new fans and makes old fans talk about the series again. So far in 2025 there's nothing new about MLP going on, so a lot of people in the fandom barely have something to talk about regarding it, and a lot for sure also moved on to other things, or decided to stay because of G4.

That doesn't mean the fandom is dead though. Many channels still upload new content, sites, Derpibooru still have a lot of new fanarts daily. So thanks to the fandom MLP is still alive and will continue alive. It's just not in a hype moment for now. ~☆

  19. Definitely not, a lot of people like it, me included, I really like that official human versions of the characters exist, I like how they look and a lot of people do. They don't scrap the ones the fans created, and make other fans want to draw them or make new designs inspired by them, so a lot of good fanart came from them. Only saw benefits from its existence.

The only bad thing I could say about Equestria Girls is something I'm not really sure if it's true or not, which is that it made Season 3 of FiM shorter, for me that season deserved to have the same length as all the other seasons. But again, I don't know if it's true or not, I can only find rumors about the possible reason for it, and the most prominent one is that they really made Season 3 half of a season only to have time to work on EQG Movie 1 and the planning for all its related products ~☆
