I had a phone call with my Dad today since I'll be visiting him for the month this Friday and apparently my newest stuffed animal I got off eBay arrived! Or technically, my oldest.

(should note this isn't the exact one I've gotten, same plush different listing.)

It's Hoppopotamus from The Wuzzles! She's my current obscure character obsession and since she's from a show made to sell children toys obviously I, the 20 year old grown man, had to buy the toy they were selling. Thankfully, it turns out the plushies of her on eBay were pretty cheap! Guess there's so little people nostalgic for it there's like zero demand for these.

Most cool thing about her is that she's the oldest stuffed animal I currently own, the oldest I've owned before was a plush of Oblina from Aahhh! Real Monsters from 1997 (I think?) and this one is from 1984. That's exactly 20 years before I was born! And currently 41 years old! The age worries me a bit because I don't know if it'll be in the best quality but I could probably fix her up if I have to. Can't be that hard, right?

I've been so excited since I heard the news that today has felt really, REALLY slow compared to normal. The next 3 days are gonna feel like the next 3 years at this point.

This game seems so cool and I REALLY want to play it but there's a serious issue with the controller support!

See, my controller of choice is the 8-Bit Do Pro 2 and in order to use it on Linux I have to have it set to X-Input mode. And for some reason, the game detects that as a PlayStation controller.

Even worse, the buttons aren't even in the same layout as the PlayStation one. On PlayStation controllers the Triangle button is the top button, while on my 8-Bit Do Pro 2 the button detected as the Triangle is Y, which is the left button. This makes the game basically unplayable for me as I CANNOT play this game with a keyboard. I've tried, I can't do it.

Yeah that's the exact reason I stopped using those types of things on my gaming PC, since I'm kinda forced to use Windows on it I felt it was necessary to NOT mess with much deep system stuff. I only got that stuff on my laptop because I was under the assumption it'd be YEARS before something would break and by then I'd likely have a newer laptop. It only took like, two months apparently.

So unfortunately, Reunion7 broke a deep system file in Windows so I would've had to reinstall the OS all over again. I got tired of doing that so I finally caved to my friends suggestion and installed Linux Mint. I have already fallen in love with it. Looks good, feels good, and everything generally runs much better!

I really do NOT like Equestria Girls, I just don't think the "human" world is interesting and 99% of the character designs are VERY unappealing because of the way they made the humans look. Seriously, they do NOT fit well in G4's style well at all and the decision to make their skin colors their coat colors but with less saturation goes from fine to ugly depending on the character. If you've seen EQG Big Mac you know what I mean.

But, despite all that, I really like EQG Fluttershy.

Out of all the characters in the show I think she was translated to being a human the best. She had the least changed about her in the best way possible and it helps that she's also the best designed. The skin color issue I have with them usually is negated fully for her and she has a REALLY good outfit.

In all honesty, the only TRUE way G5 could've been saved would've just been fully leaning into doing something new and being unique. Many ideas they had were honestly great and the new main cast were likable, but the haphazard connections to G4 just completely invalidate most of them. Plus, while the whole idea of a future more technically advanced Equestria basically having our level of tech is a really cool concept (so much so I came up with it a year before they did, take that Hasbro!) they did the absolutle LAMEST possible things with it.

Honestly, i'm starting to think at this point Hasbro has just given up trying to do anything with the My Little Pony franchise for the time being. Generation 5 was a flop that they doomed from the start by trying to connect such a different version of the world to the previous and Pony Life was proof they couldn't just slap the G4 cast into a new show and have it be an insta-success. And even if they could get something good it would NEVER be as much of a moneymaker as it was when it was one of the biggest things in 2010s pop culture.

They just completely fail to see why Friendship is Magic was such a big thing in the first place and it sucks.

I still unironically listen to this song all the time, it's so catchy.

Windows 7 is my favorite version of Windows, it's the perfect amount of pretty aesthetics, usability, and customization. Last version I feel where you could really personalize your computer to fit yourself without having to download dozens of external applications. I'm so glad there's so many projects to use W10 to revive it.

Yeah honestly WindowBlinds sucks, the modified version of W10 I use for this uses some other stuff to achieve the look. I don't know what exactly they use, but it's pretty damn accurate. I feel like if I didn't tell anyone this was just W10 with skins and modifications I could genuinely trick someone into believing it's real W7.

That's 100% the reason why they made the episode, by 2007 when the episode came out SpongeBob merch was all over the place.

The custom Windows 7 theme I use for my laptop got updated to its latest version and, since that required a factory reset to work, got myself a whole new desktop layout!

First image is the desktop itself with nothing open, mostly to show off the Silverstream wallpaper i've chosen.

Second image is with some programs open to show off the W7-ish stuff more, including my oldschool Chrome themed Firefox and the program i've been using for Discord called Aerochat.

Been getting episodes of the show to watch on my PlayStation Vita for when I move and gotta drive many hours to my new house and i've been deliberately getting episodes with Silverstream in them, any time I see her my stress instantly goes away.

As for media players, I am content with using Media Monkey 5 with my music as I like having physical copies of songs I like, with AccurateRip and verify, you can make sure CD rips are bit perfect each time. In my opinion, this media player beats most of the other ones out there, including Winamp.

I used to use WindowBlinds but not only does it cost money (which I don't have a lot of atm) the Windows 7 theme on it is broken. The "aero glass" effect on the windows is completely broken. I'm unsure what my modded W10 install uses but it's a lot more accurate. Also in terms of media players, I usually use VLC for movies and WACUP for locally installed music.

It's pretty easy to get custom skins for Windows if you know what you're doing and only use trustworthy programs. Spotify you can only skin if you install the Spicetify mod onto it which allows for custom themes and plugins, kinda like what Vencord is to Discord. I'd love to use Linux but i'm way too used to Windows to make a switch, plus one of my favorite games is completely broken on it.

Yeah, I miss it a lot. The issue with tech/internet today is big corporations stopped their facade and made everything super corporate. Every website / program now has to be super flat and minimalist with zero personality and it's boring, really doesn't help that they also fill everything with bloat it doesn't need and feel the need to force every new tech "advancement" into them even if it really doesn't need it like how literally everything has an AI chatbot on it.

I'm hoping some time in the near future the failures of "Web3" will push us back in the right direction. Eventually the style of minimalism is gonna die out, companies are gonna realize they aren't gonna keep making a profit with their current business models of shoving every new trend onto their stuff, they'll notice the increasingly rapidly approaching death of social media after the fiascos with Twitter and Meta, and now that the generation who grew up in the era of early/mid Web2 are full grown adults constantly talking how bad the Internets gotten it just seems we're nearing a perfect time for things to get better.

Either that or like usual they'll never learn and it's gonna be stuck like this forever. At least if that happens we'll always have dedicated groups of people keeping the spirit of old tech alive.

Something about myself I haven't talked about on this forum yet (I think?) is how much I LOVE the aesthetic of 2000s / Early 2010s tech and web stuff. And one thing i've been trying to do for over 2 years now is get a good, accurate, and most importantly usable Windows 7 theme going for my computer, which for the past year I switched over to my laptop since it's better to do it with a 200$ laptop and not the irreplaceable thousand-dollar gaming PC. 

Well, after I discovered this modded version of Windows 10 to make it as 7 accurate as possible, i've been near close to getting that! I've already known skins for stuff like Firefox (got it looking like old Chrome here) and Discord but for a while i've been hindered by Spotify. Love the convinence of being able to listen to like, all the music ever whenever I want instead of downloading albums from dubious websites, but the design was WAY too modern! I kinda had to just deal with that for a while. But I discovered this relatively new thing called WMPotify and now it fits in a lot better! There's zero program now that feels out of place now! I love it.

If I could bring back G4 i'd make a spinoff sequel series with the Young Six, it's still a damn shame to me they only got two seasons worth of content.

Around April/May of last year I bought the official puppet of the character Duggie from SML (previously SuperMarioLogan) cause for reasons too personal to explain I absolutely fell in LOVE with him. Thought I would've got him in like a week, maybe a month.

Turns out, it took until DECEMBER for him to arrive! He was stuck in what I like to call "shipping hell" for basically the entire year, which was a pain since I have patience issues but in the end i'd say it was worth it. I love him, my family really likes him, my friends like him, and life's just turned out super positive since he got here.

My Discord username is xhepy, though I don't really use it for DMs much outside friends. I mainly use Windows Live Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger for that.

Some time a few days ago "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" which has been a mystery ever since like, the late 2000s has finally been solved. It was made by some band called FEX and it's actual name is "Subways Of Your Mind" and the full demo of it was released and uploaded. The guy from the band who was contacted said they had no idea their song from like 4 decades ago blew up on the internet and ended up contacting the other band members and said they might do the song again to release.

I got a fan remastered version of the demo tape and added it to my playlist, it was already a really good song and now it's even better with higher quality.

A few of them. Been playing a lot of Super Mario 64 Co-op Deluxe and Minecraft, trying to finally beat Super Mario Bros Wonder, and i'm currently trying a playthough of every boomer shooter. (DOOM, Quake, Half-Life, ect)
