What was your reaction to Shining Armor?
Heart's Desire replied to PonyPowaX1000's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
He seemed exactly like what I would expect of Twilight's big brother. A decent, loving, and kind pony. So even though it makes no sense that he was thrown in at the last minute, and somehow couldn't tell he was marrying the wrong woman (I'll just assume he was more under her spell than we realized because the difference between them was obvious) all in all he's a good character and I wouldn't mind seeing more of him. -
Fanfiction written in present tense by accident?
Heart's Desire replied to Book's topic in Sugarcube Corner
This, exactly. If I'm going to be frustrated rather than enjoy the story I don't see a reason to waste my time on it. There are very few stories that are intentionally written in present tense. It's a very difficult thing to do well, so even when done intentionally it can ruin a story if the writer doesn't know what they're doing. What annoys me the most is when it switches back and forth. I wont deny that I've caught myself using an incorrect tense here or there but that's what proofreading is for and it shouldn't make it to the final cut. -
Why does The Hub show MLP so early?
Heart's Desire replied to Le Kvlt Dawn's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Haha, that just makes my mind fill in the blank with much stronger words! And I'm sorry, but coddling your kids so much that "losers" is a bad word is just horrible. Especially when you consider that it's being used in a context where she's obviously not comfortable with it. It's hard to get the message that calling people names is bad when the name itself is bleeped out, but I digress. -
This thread got me craving burgers so I had to get one today. Funny how I didn't end up at either chain, I went to Culver's instead. Good stuff.

Thanks I've never written that kind of a story before but I've always loved the references in other shows. I could just see Spike imagining himself in that role so I figured I'd give it a shot, crazy metaphors and all. Also, I know what you mean about the cloud. I only used Google documents for the sake of sharing. The original, as well as all the rest of my writing, is always done and saved in Word or Notepad. The only time I've ever used an internet program for writing was when I used to write at work. I'd write my stories in gmail and just send them to myself, that way I could write at work and at home as well as hide what I was doing from my boss. I've just lost too much work in my life to not have backups.

Why does The Hub show MLP so early?
Heart's Desire replied to Le Kvlt Dawn's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
They show it that early in the morning because that is when little kids wake up. No matter what, that's when they wake up. You could put them down an hour before and they'll still get up then. So remember next time you get annoyed with your mom for being a morning person that it's probably your fault. I bet she used to sleep until noon before you were born. In all seriousness though, I just DVR them, my brother watches them on netflix. -

Closet Bronies UNITE: Experiences and Discussion
Heart's Desire replied to Zero000's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I'm always very open about everything that I like, sometimes exceptionally so. My wardrobe consists of all type of geek t-shirts from Doctor Who to MLP and everything in between. It's kind of funny because I was always so shy and subdued when I was in school, and to be honest I'm still exceptionally shy with people I don't know, but with the way I express myself through clothes, laptop decals, desktop stuff, etc, most people are never aware of this. -
Anyone remember the older generation
Heart's Desire replied to Trollestia's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I loved it when I was little but I wouldn't try to watch it now. Cartoons back then were extremely simplistic in plot and there were often gaping holes that your mind simply didn't notice. As an adult it's baffling to understand why we ever thought they were good. Recently my brother and I tried watching Thundercats again, as it was a favorite back then, and it was painful. I wont even tell you what we thought of Hello Kitty. I still have all of my My Little Pony toys from that era but I've no intention of even trying to watch the show again. -
When I was younger I always preferred McDonald's over Burger King. I never cared for Burger King fries, and the burgers were dry. Then I went vegetarian and realized there is NOTHING in the menu at McDonald's (except a few things like cookies) that I could actually eat. So, I had to give Burger King a try. I've learned you have to find the right Burger King, but if you get one in a good area their Veggie Burgers and Fries are wonderful. On the rare occasion that I really want a fast food burger that's where I go. McDonald's still has the best Diet Coke, though, and Wendy's fries are awesome. Still, 97% of the time I end up at taco bell.

No, no, no, we were all sneezed from the nose of the Great Green Arkleseizure and must fear the coming of the Great White Handkerchief. You're pretty accurate. The FSM was created as an argument for keeping Intelligent Design from being taught in school alongside evolution. It has, apparently taken on a life of it's own since those days. I would not consider it a serious religion, but rather an anti-religious movement. Though I'm certain many people "join" more because they find it funny than due to any serious opinion for or against religion.

What's up with the socks?
Heart's Desire replied to Shadow Chaser's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I actually have drawn a few ponies where I ended up putting socks or stockings on them simply to give them a little more character. I have a witch pony I'm hoping to eventually make into my avatar, and when I was drawing her I just felt like she needed a little something more than a witch hat. I used to have some fingerless lace gloves I really loved so I figured I'd try to create the pony equivalent, so now she's wearing lace stockings on her front legs. They don't have a lot of clothing options, so socks just seem to make sense.- 50 replies

Favorite Month of the Calendar
Heart's Desire replied to Doctor XFizzle's topic in General Discussion
October. I am a huge fan of Halloween and always have been. I go all out in decorating and tend to celebrate the entire month with scary movies and such. Also, I just love fall. It's nice when it starts getting dark a bit earlier, and the weather gets cool. I love to curl up with the windows open for a crisp breeze and drink tea while watching anime. Plus, you know, candy. -
I had no idea about any of those and am now looking forward to ALL of them!! Especially Paper Mario and Pikmin!! I'm so happy you mentioned them! I would have to say my favorite of all time is Super Mario Kart (the original) just because of how many hours my brother, our friends, and I put into playing it. It's tied into so many great memories from that time. I also enjoy the Sim City franchise and am looking forward to the new one though I am very worried that they will ruin it by trying to make it multiplayer and such things. I just want my good old fashioned city building simulation please! Also, as much as I enjoy the Sims (and am looking forward to Supernatural and Seasons) I don't want a bunch of crossover stuff. There was already too much of that in Sim City 4. Otherwise, WoW:MoP, I've been playing since vanilla and while I do get bored with it sometimes I've tried so many other MMOs and none of them get me like WoW. I do understand the next Elder Scrolls will be an MMO though so I may give that a go.

I'm actually finding it hard to answer this question. I just recently (in the last year) got back into it after not watching for a good ten years. So far I really enjoy CM Punk, and Sheamus amuses me a bit, but I don't know that I have a favorite yet. When I was a teenager it was all about Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Not sure who would be my favorite of all time. You've given me something interesting to think about.

Equestrians are Omnivores
Heart's Desire replied to Rainbow Sparkle's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Eggs are not considered a meat. Eggs are a protein and do fall under the protein category in the food pyramid, but they are no more a meat than beans are. Vegans will not eat them because they come from an animal and most of them feel it is wrong to exploit the chickens by forcing them to lay eggs for us to eat. Most vegetarians will eat eggs, though often they are classified as "lacto-ovo vegetarians". I've personally never understood the need for that classification but the non-meat eating community is exceptionally picky about putting everyone into their little pigeon hole. As no animal is killed to bring about an egg it's generally deemed acceptable to eat them in the vegetarian community. Those who eat fish, or chicken, or other things and avoid only certain types of meat are not considered vegetarians and usually have their own classifications. When it comes to animal classifications there are herbivorous animals that eat eggs and are still classified as herbivorous. I can see where you're coming from with this argument as even when I saw them eating eggs for breakfast my first thought was, "that's not a very pony thing to be eating", but I think their intention is for them to be herbivores. It's simply very difficult for the writers to avoid certain cultural references as they themselves were most likely raised in a meat eating culture and no matter how hard you try something of that is bound to slip through into your writing. Hence the turkey and hot dog comments. I must admit, those are some well caught phrases you presented for evidence. -
To the best of my understanding that isn't possible. I feel for you, because I've been there, but the best you can do is move as many apps as possible to the SD card to try to free up space. I work in wireless and this is a huge complaint on many starter androids. Lots of salesmen will try to sell you on them by pointing out how much expanded memory they are capable of but that means nothing when it comes to running certain apps.

I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil, but the first time I remember actually thinking about what I was drawing was when I was about six or seven. There was a line of toys out then called Fairy Tales. They were plastic birds with hair and tails, similar to My Little Ponies. (it's seriously a coincidence that this story is being written on this forum, haha). Anyway, I remember loving this new toy I had gotten and trying to draw it but failing miserably. It was then that my dad explained to me that I had to look at the toy and break it down into shapes and draw what I could see. I'm sure the picture still wasn't wonderful, but it changed the way I thought about drawing. A lot of people here have given some great advice on how to start drawing. The most I can say is don't be afraid to suck at it. It takes a lot of practice and patience to get better. I, unfortunately, was in a relationship for a while where my drawing was belittled and I felt ashamed to try. Because of that I am seriously out of practice now that I am picking it up again and my work sucks. I know, however, that it's only through drawing countless crappy images that I'll get the talent back again. So, if you love it, no matter what, stick to it.

Having 4 cats I'm rather used to them pawing at the water bowl or scratching to cover food, but I have one cat who scratches the floor around the water bowl while she drinks. It basically looks like she is either trying to make the bowl bigger, or trying to swim. I have no idea why she does it and it cracks me up. She's also been known to bury her nose in one's armpit to get a big whiff, then pulls her head up with her mouth open and a weird look on her face like it's the most amazing thing she's ever smelled. It's not something we encourage. Also, whenever we're eating and the dog sits there and begs the boy cat has to come sit right next to her and beg alongside her. He's so much like a dog I wouldn't be surprised to hear him bark.

"Night, my favorite time of day!" ~Darkwing Duck I'd have to say between 11pm and 3am, though anytime at night is great. I have nothing against the day, and have a great appreciation for it's beauty, but growing up as a shy person it was always easier to avoid people at night. I guess as I got older it just kinda stuck. I even prefer to do my grocery shopping in the middle of the night to avoid crowds.

Life Goal: Be a published author. It'd be especially nice if people were fond of my work enough so that I could make a living off it as well. Other Things: Well, I've always wanted to have a room full of legos, start a cat rescue, and write/draw my own manga.

My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Fluttershy How did you find MLP Forums?: Google. I actually expected it to take a while to find a forum I would like. I've been having bad luck with finding worthwhile forums lately, but this place looks marvelous! How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Well, I always remember watching the old 80's cartoon when I was little so when I heard my younger brother talking about MLP:FiM I made some snide comment about being loyal to the old one. I'd had too many bad experiences with the things I loved back then being remade. However, one day I ran across an episode on the Hub and I've been obsessed ever since. I should probably tell my little brother he was right someday... Hello Everypony, it's nice to meet you all. You should probably read this in Fluttershy's whisper quiet voice because that's about how I feel in writing it, hence the title. It's okay though, I'll warm up quickly, I'm sure. Since this is the "tell us about yourself" section I suppose a few details are in order; Well, I'm a geek. I love sci-fi, fantasy, Anime, Doctor Who, playing RPGs, RTSs, and God Games. I love reading, and am a writer myself though often too scared to try to get things published. I realize that's the type of attitude that will get you nowhere fast in the industry, but I can't help it. I'm an animal lover. I have four cats and a dog and it's all I can do to keep from taking in every animal I see. I'm a sucker for an animal with a hard luck story. I love to bake, spend lots of time on the computer, and should probably wrap this up because it's getting long. Anyway, I can't wait to get into the swing of things. Thanks for reading, or skimming at least, hehe.
