Alright, I'm looking more into it under the name "work addition", and it appears to be something that has been identified as an issue for many people, but it hasn't been made into an official disorder yet as it's still in early stages of research. It's not something that someone is going to get diagnosed with, or if they are it's going to just be as a non-specified addiction.

    it actually is a thing.

    Applejack: Workaholic Syndrome

1, - You spend your free time thinking about work.
If you struggle to take time off without your mind drifting back to work, that’s a troubling sign you might be addicted to work.

    2 - You’re constantly working overtime.
Do you pull in more late-night shifts than anyone else in the office? Working consistently late might be a sign you have an issue with overworking yourself.

3- You’ve been asked by superiors to reduce the number of hours you’re working.
If your managers have tried to intervene in the number of hours you put into your work day, and you’re still unable to do so, it’s likely you have an issue.

4- You put off spending time with loved ones to spend time in the office.
Is it difficult to spend time with loved ones without thinking back to what’s happening in the office? This is a common symptom in most workaholics.

5- You don’t enjoy or prioritize leisure activities, favoring work instead
The same applies for your hobbies or favorite leisure activities - if they’ve stopped bringing you joy because of your fixation with work, it’s time to seek guidance.

Speaking as someone who memorized every disorder in DSM-IV for class and knows how to look up disorders that aren't in it, I can confirm there is no such thing as "workaholic syndrome". You appear to have taken your criteria off of a blog post on Puffy.com .

-While I like there being open questions and mysteries, the movie doesn't explain much of anything in regards to how the world became so different to g4, no reference to dragons, griffons, etc.
-The world feels...smaller, Equestria was full of cities and different ponies and the population could have been millions, but now it seems that the populations of each race are mostly relegated to 3 hubs. again, the show will need to explain more here.

There actually was a reference to griffons or dragons, in one of the establishing shots of Marinetime Bay they show ponies hitting piñatas depicting one of those creatures, emphasizing their xenophobia. I do agree with the small world impression though, which is the opposite I got from G4

That and the E.I mandate and it's TV-Y rating really did hold G4  back for a long time.

I really hope the upcoming G5 special and the series will be at least TV-G or TV-PG, so that way it will give that edge that FiM  couldn't even pull off.

I find it odd though that despite this movie being rated PG it had not real threats, with the villain being reduced to splashing ponies with goo, while the show has plenty of real threats.

  5. Surprisingly, my favorite part was the animation. I’m usually not a huge fan of CGI, but they did a really good job at making appealing looking characters that felt alive. The plot was weak, my main issues being that there was no real stakes, and the transitions between plot points were poor.

I’m not feeling for the characters like I did for G4, but they are growing on me, especially Izzy. I didn’t like her at first because she initially just seemed to be stupid, but she soon revealed that she has much more depth than it appears. Like everyone else said she’s like Pinkie Pie, but a bit different as well - while Pinkie Pie is a more of cartoon gag, Izzy feels more like a real person who just sees the world and processes it a bit differently from those around her. I actually think she might be the most intelligent of the group, it’s just that she’s better at expressing herself by working with objects than by by speaking.

Pipp though was a disappointment - does anyone actually like this archetype? It presents itself slightly different with each generation, but in any incarnation I’ve always found it to be grating. I know part of it is just that creators are always out of touch with the youth, but it makes you wonder how these fictional characters are popular in their own world.

Lastly, I was not a fan of the music, it leaned too much into contemporary pop. In particular Pipp sounded horrible - is that actually what people think talented singers sound like these days? It’s pretty ironic, as all the ponies who weren’t singers had nice singing voices, stylistic complaints aside. The only other I actually disliked was the villain song, part of it was too derivative and Smells like Teen Spirit and didn’t fit the mood at all (was the idea supposed to be that because it’s got a relatively heavier riff it’s supposed to be evil sounding or something?), and the other sections just didn’t fit with each other. The only I really liked though was the one with the butts, I guess mainly because it was Izzy’s big song.

Overall I enjoyed watching it, but if it wasn’t for the fact it’s the G5 movie I’d find it to be pretty forgettable. I’m pretty unconcerned with the lore though - unlike most people I really don’t care whether she’s an alicorn or not, and I figure it might as well not be a sequel to G4 since functionally it seems more to be a fairytale in this universe than any sort of history we can connect to what is going on. I’m going to wait and see what they’re going to do with the actual series before I commit myself to watching it.

If you don't mind I'd like to upload it myself and I can give you the link?

Sorry for the late reply, I was really busy the last couple weeks. Anyway, yeah, that's fine, I just want to make sure she gets tagged right and linked back to the story she's in. I'm almost done with the next chapter in it.

I'd figured that Jeric had so much else going on that the Letters to Ponies video project got scrapped.

I was okay with that; he's human, too, and...well, things come up in life from time to time.  Plus, he's already done a lot, and the retrospective was beautiful.

Aw. Are the actual letters still around somewhere though? I was looking for the one I had sent, as I was meaning to reuse some it's content for something else.

  9. Thanks for the feedback. Sorry my piece was piece was so repetitive. I had just heard about the context a week before the deadline, and I was super busy that week, so aside from developing the one riff and the thematic idea I really did throw it together at the last second, and put it up once I had *something* resembling a song. I can’t wait for the next music competition. I know I can’t compete with all the people hear who actually know something about composition, but I enjoy participating anyway, and I’ll promise next time I won’t just copy-paste a single riff for the whole song.

Anyway, I’ve got a couple questions with the feedback. First, when the vocals are described as being “unstable”, what exactly does that mean? I assume it means them wavering around the intended note, but I’m not sure. Second, on singing closer to the microphone - the main reason I was so far away was because I was using my built-in laptop microphone. I know I need to get an actual microphone at some point, but I don’t know what to get. One thing is my full-voice is very loud (I never went into it the song because it would have just brick walled), so I’d like something that can handle that. You got any recommendations?

I can tell they put their hearts and souls into it like most Hazbin content, but in this case I just can't really particularly enjoy this song. Honestly the way Angel's voice was done here was a little off-putting to me. Sounds auto-tuned. Maybe it just isn't my kind of music, I don't know.

Do you mean the actual Angel’s voice at the end or the singer for the most song? Angel singing alone at the end once all the club nonsense was gone was my favorite part of it.

  11. I love the design of the characters and world, both visually and in terms of what they actually are. The scripts so far haven’t been very good though. Seems they’ve been trying to introduce every character and cram in every joke they could think of without having a coherent plot. Also, the tone so far seems to be less like actual evil demons and more adult for being an adult cartoon for its own sake. I am looking forward to new episodes though, from the preview with Octavia it seems some of the writing might have improved. I also don’t understand why they are doing a second series before the first one even has a second episode, the characters are different, but otherwise they seem pretty interchangeable.

  12. I don't know which forum this fits best, I'm putting it here because from what I've seen it appears to be the best fit. Anyway, one thing I find interesting about brony music is not just that there is some very good songs about horses, but in some cases the brony music scene ended up producing unique music, and it's musically unique BECAUSE it came from the brony music scene, it's not just that a musician with a unique style coincidentally happened to make a song about horses. The reason for this phenomenon is that the brony music scene is remarkably well connected, but also extremely diverse, leading to collaborations and fusions that otherwise would not happen. For example, I've noticed that brony industrial metal in particular tends to stand out from other industrial metal, and that's because it's roots are not in other industrial metal, but from metal musicians who were inspired by electronic artists within the brony community. The best example of such is Tarby, and here is one of the songs this influence can be heard best, particularly during the bridge:

The thing is Tarby is not alone. Another good example is DivinumX's pop-tinged extreme metal. I think HeyLasFas also fits in the same sub-scene, whose album Destiny being an absolute masterpiece. Then there are several collaborations that push boundaries in similar ways, such as Breaking Bounds by Princewhatever.

Reason I'm posting this is because I'm sure there is many more examples, but with my preference being towards metal my perspective is rather limited. I'm looking for more examples of musical innovation being driven by the brony music scene. I think the Brony Music Scene itself would be a good subject for a documentary, with the key point being that it's more than just songs about horses. Examples such as these provide a very convincing case that it is, and that's without going into all the friendships that formed.
