Calamitous was born twenty-seven years before the Current Era. Before he hatching was... Unique in a way, born during the Catalyst event when a Magical Storm crashed against The Dragon Lands, powerful, wild, untamed magic impaled the study rock foundation, magical lightning struck the mountains, lava flowing across all directions, causing many Dragons to flee for shelter in one of the many caves interconnected with each other. Sadly, many eggs, whilst being very carefully transported away from the Nesting Grounds to a more secure location where magma underneath the surface still provided warmth, not many of them had survived the journey, and many more were cracked prematurely from the violent storm that engulfed the Lands. Before the Dragons had the time to reach out to grab the Egg of Calamitous, it was struck by a final magical lightning bolt, a massive crash of arcane energy hit the egg, and soon enough the storm was over...
The Egg, however, survived.
Many dragons looked at the glowing egg in wonder, seeing the once Crimson Red Egg, now a White Egg that glowed with a mixture of blue and violet, the egg itself even had the most unusual markings, as though the magic was absorbed into the egg itself. With a rattle and several cracks across the shell, Calamitous emerged from his humble origin. The dragons that were around to see his birth were shocked and also concerned about his birth, seeing how he looked different from the others, sporting what appears to be a scaly, spiky mane that traversed most parts of the baby dragons body, and the unusual magical stripe marks that was all over his body. The baby dragon was brought before Torch; The Dragon Lord, wondering what they should do with the hatchling. After taking a simple look at the baby dragon, Torch decreed that Calamitous was to be raised like any other Dragon, but kept under supervision just to be sure that the Magical Storm did not cause any significant damage.
With the lifecycle changed from a Newborn into an Infant, Calamitous and the others dragons learnt how to be a dragon, the basic lessons, how to fight, learning to breathe fire, eating gems, and making sure one stands up with all claws as the top of the food chain against anyone that was a dragon and non-dragon alike. The infant dragon learnt this skills, albiet the white whelp was a source of worry and concern for the other, older dragons, just in a different kind. While the first five years of his life saw him managing to mingle with the other dragons, it was also the same time where Calamitous essentially spending time away from his fellow infant dragons. Though this did not mean the infant dragon had lost interest, he had his own unique way of learning; watching and learning - Taking in the knowledge and stories of the dragons, watching the infant dragons fight each other and having managed to beat down those who were too soft and weak. It was a firm, harsh, yet realistic way of having a dragon grow up in their culture.
From learning to swim in magma, to releasing his first draconic breath, Calamitous was a fast learner. Yet, as he grew up more and more, he soon discovered that he had the ability to use magic. On one day during a 'King of the Horde' session, Calamitous unintentionally used magic for the first time in his life, using his left claw to reach out towards another dragon and threw them back down to the ground, and then with his eyes having glowed a hollow blue, a blink of an eye, he teleported to the top, knocking over the previous Dragon that was on top. This of course, sparked a heated debate by young and older dragons alike, believing the Magic Storm that hit their home was the work of a namby-pamby Unicorn. For a time, his fellow Dragons didn't look or even bother to talk to Calamitous, resulting in him leaving The Dragon Lands, once he had undergone the traditional lifecycle of, 'The Molt' and earned his wings upon completion.
Being sent away from his homeland was hard and challenging, much like any Dragon that goes through this cycle. The long weeks and months bore fruit to this, as he travelled across the Southern region of Equestria where only the adventurous dwell. Soaring over past Saltmane and Tenochtitlan, bearing witness to the Badlands and Buck Castle in the Meadowlands, Calamitous found himself prowling the forest and tall grass of the Meadowlands, not to attack the ponies that dwelled within, but to watch and learn from them. How they behaved, acted and treated one another was certainly a lot different to how he experienced such a lifestyle back in The Dragon Lands. It was... Nice to see how such ponies befriended one another and truly treated one another with love and friendship, he even managed to see such Unicorn use magic to entertain the young foals and fillies of their home, his eyes marvelled at such skill with the art of magic. One way or another, he simply had to learn how to use Magic on his own.
That chance certain came a lot sooner than he liked.
Upon a midnight stroll, some unfortunate travellers from the Meadowlands who hopped to get to Hoof City by morning were ambushed by a pack of Timber Wolves. Their screams woke the sleeping Dragon, who by now stood at 6 feet tall from the shoulder, and teleported infront of the ponies, and with a mighty roar, extending his already large wings, the Timber wolves as well as the ponies ran for their lives, terrified to have seen a creature having just appeared out of nowhere. For this did not come with consequence. From Hoofington to Las Pegasus... From FIllydelphia to Saltlickingham, news spread of a Dragon that dwells close to the forests close to the Meadowlands that has the ability to use magic. Many ponies from all walks of life wanted to try and capture such a dragon, or at least find it for study, but none were successful... All except one; a rather elderly female Unicorn who was not set to capture the Dragon as a prize or a pet, but rather to talk, learn and understand him. Her name was Cosmic Radiance, a wise and intelligent Mare Unicorn who stumbled upon meeting Calamitous in the Hayseed Swamps close to New Horseleans. It was a moment in time the Dragon would never forget.
Instead of being attacked, or hunted, Cosmic Radiance instead offered her hoof in friendship to the Dragon, something he never really had before: Someone to call a friend. It was a tough process to learn the pony way of life, being introduced to the variety of Ponies in the Meadowlands, leaning what they eat, celebrating parties and relaxing, she even took Calamitous as a temporary student to learn the art of magic after being informed by the ponies who witnessed it first time, even she was impressed to see such wild stories being true, which also came to the long hours, months and even years of training a non-pony, let alone a non-unicorn in how to use the art of magic. Explaining the delicate procedure, alongside listening to Calamitous side of the story, what had happened to him, how dragons behaved one with one another, and how he got here in the first place. It was quite the fulfilling moment of how two worlds have come together to co-exist, and perhaps for the first time, Calamitous was actually rather happy to live in Equestria once the ponies stopped chasing after him to try and capture the magic wielding dragon.
He learnt the art of Alchemy, something that he eventually decided to take up as a fulltime profession, alongside reading and writing. Like a Hoarder among dragons, Calamitous was no exception in the desire to grab anything he could to learn and use such knowledge to benefit not only himself but the Ponies of Equestria should his Alchemist proficiency would come in use. He eventually took his leave of Cosmic Radiance, promising that he will return to occasionally visit her, thanking the elder unicorn for everything. He eventually made himself a home on the outskirts of Ponyville, within the confines of the Everfree Forest, where he made a home for himself, close by to the Castle of the Twin Sisters. There he constructed himself a home; a library tower. A place where tomes, books, research and anything to do with magic and scrolls reside within the confines of the Everfree Forest. Now a 27 year old Dragon, who stands at 11 feet from the shoulder, and with a wingspan of 40 feet at full spread, he tends to both live out his time in peace within the forest but also taking the moments to mingle with the Pony crowd. The closest Residence? Ponyville.
Unlike the Dragons from The Dragon Lands, Calamitous is a puzzle - an enigma. His personality always changing from one aspect to another depending on the environment and situation. From the smallest of tasks, the more grander of assignments. At best, one can often describe his personality to be a game show wheel; you never know what you will have to deal with whenever Calamitous is in such a mood which can come down to the area around him and whether he is working on not. This also plays a factor as to whether or not he knows the individual or not, and whether this particular dragon has spent any real time in connecting with the pony and/or non-pony in question.
The mindset of Calamitous revolves around individualism: the habit of being dependent on no one and self-reliance. He partially reserved and often non-judgmental, believing every creature or pony to do as they please without criticism. Traveling as he desires, Calamitous is oftentimes alone and free to think as he wishes. The male dragon displays his proudness and holds himself to larger standards than most; he believes himself to be worthy of any research or alchemist knowledge he attains, very much a direct resemblance of a dragon hording his or her gold and gems alike. His emotions after consequential events could get the best of him, teetering him towards pure acts of evil or happiness, as he feels fit. “Selfish” is a word that lingers behind him; however, he will display the contrary if a loved one or innocent youth is harmed. Audacious, Calamitous also holds the ability to explore the vast open world without typical fear.
Truth be told, behind such a 'Selfish' exterior, Calamitous actually does care very deeply for his fellow dragons and wants to see them reach what he feels to be their true potential. He also bears very strong feelings upon their place as a family, wanting to expand the dragon influence beyond their lands and go beyond Equestria. He believes they can delve into other aspects of life, namely in the art of progression, hopefully wanting to see The Dragon Lands transform from being such a simple land mass, into a thriving Island worthy of Dragonkind. His delving in the Alchemist, magic, and science arts may clash with his fellow dragons, some of them believing he has taken on a more pony lifestyle, but so far he has managed to keep his activities secret with his earnings stashed in his home within the outskirts of Ponyville, away from the usual Horde of the Dragon Lands. As such, whilst he cares for his fellow Dragons despite how they continue to irritate him with their lacklustre lifestyle, it's one of the many reasons why he tries so hard to stay away from them.
Calamitous also has a love for nature and animals that others may find strange, especially in a dragon of all things. Over the years, he has accumulated many plants, both exotic and common that aid with his ongoing alchemy research, and he has developed a steady lifestyle in ensuring that such plants, which has devolved into his personal garden are taken great care of. His favourites, are more or less use in his alchemy experiments, used as testing subjects to see what kind of reaction he can get with the mixture of his vials with an organic material. What is also a main surprising trait, is the fact that he actually doesn't mind spending time with the ponies of equestria, one could even say that he rather enjoys it! His love for studying and reading is paramount, and when given the chance he may try and purchase some books that he leaves in the care of his library that he tends to himself, making sure such books are occasionally read and kept clean. Calamitous also delights in the participation and consumption of a mixed diet, ranging from the classic Dragon meals that is the delicious Gems, to normal equine pony food and drinks, another quirk that both helps him relax and mingle with the ponies of Ponyville, and he has even decided to take up the art of cooking and baking to pass the time during his visits. He often delights in trying new foods, his favourite constantly shifting. He keeps a cellar full of various vintages of wine, with separate cases of other drink that he sometimes enjoys.
Flashy and yet unusual, Calamitous stands at a height of 11 feet from the shoulder, and with a wingspan of 40 feet at full spread, this dragon sports a mixture of pure white scales that glisten in the moonlight; their sheen is as iridescent as diamond-coated gem, reflective and polished. These scales are marred with markings of blue and violet, magic rune stripes that splay over his face, shoulders, down his back, across the arms and legs, along the backs of his wings and along his tail. The inside of his long, batlike wings is a mixture of White that resides of the upper part of the wings which slowly devolves into a violet blue colour at the bottom base of the wings, the wingbones white striped with the same magic rune stripes of blue and violet. Beneath his amber eyes, two stripes curve down his face, and lines of the same magic curl from the middle of his muzzle down to the tip of his nose. Two blue horns sprout from the middle of this marking-diamond, joining with a crest of sharp blue horns that flows down his neck, that is hidden by what appears to be a light grey mane that travels across his back and to the majority of his extremely long tail. Two massive blue horns sprout from his head, shadowing two bony blue frills that curve around his face.
His belly is plated with silver and violet that extends down from his neck to end at his tail. Long, curved talons, pitch-blue as his horns, curl from the tip of each long finger, the palms of his paws covered in the same mane like fur that sports the head down to the body and tail. These furs across the body, arms and legs, a sign of mutation from a magical storm that hit The Dragon Lands when he was still in his egg. The mane and fur across his body not only highlight when Calamitous is about to unleash his Magical Dragon Breath, as the fur glows a bright blue on the tips of his fur and mane, but also protect his sensitive paw pads while enabling his hard talons to be used. On top of this there are spikes that have additionally grown on the ends of the batwings, ankles and joints of the Dragon's body, coloured in the same way as the horns that spew out from his head, that also glow when he is about to use his Dragon Breath or magic spell.
- Before hatching from his Egg, Calamitous was struck by a Magical Lightning Storm, augmenting his appearance and allowing him to utilise Magic like a Unicorn.
- Having travelled across the Southern Regions of Equestria, having temporary made himself a home in the Meadowlands, he was trained and mentored by Cosmic Radiance, a wise, elder female Unicorn. It was from her teaching that taught him how to behave and live in Equestria, along with making friends and accepting friendship.
- From his teacher Cosmic Radiance, Calamitous learned the fine art of Pony Life, as well as taking on his first steps as an Alchemist.
- Currently lives within the Everfree Forest, constructed a large magic tower to live and make himself a home.
- Works as an Alchemist, collecting ingredience both within and outside of Ponyville.
