Flying Pencil grew up in Cloudsdale with his family and his older brother, Sky Stream. When he was a colt, he wasn't a good artist and his drawings were messy. When he was 12, he would start sketching simple things such as animals and insects. His drawings skills improved and this is when he got his cutie mark. He was teased for not having a cutie mark until that day. He would later paint and spend most of his time drawing, he even drew a picture of his family when he was about to move to Ponyville. In Ponyville, he would meet a lot of ponies and took the offer of creating drawings for other ponies at a certain price. One day, he found the perfect place to relax, think, draw, and even fell asleep once. It was on top of a hill and had a tree where he can lay next too. The top of the hill gave him a clear view of Ponyville and gave him the idea of drawing the small town. When the drawing was finished and the paint was added, he gave it to the mayor who loved the design. He would also race with other ponies, he was a fast flyer, not Rainbow Dash fast, but still fast. He has been happy ever since and his drawings have improved over the years.
Flying Pencil was cheerful and happy about many things. He would also love to watch his older brother race with other ponies, which would cause Pencil to develop a taste of racing. Despite his happy personality, he would be teased and sometimes bullied by older colts because he didn't get a cute mark. This would cause him to judge himself and have low self-esteem. So when he got his cutie mark, he was ecstatic and overwhelmed with joy. He became less bullied and teased, as his self-esteem got higher. But sometimes, he would still judge himself when something wasn't perfect. Flying Pencil also loves to have fun and party, which when Pinkie invited him for a party, he loved it and partied until he had to go home. He has calm but happy personality who loves to have fun and when others are feeling bad, he would sympathize for them and ask whats wrong. Flying Pencil is also competitive when racing, but is a good sport even after a lost.
