Virtue

Virtue’s mane and coat are made up of a few different shades of purple. Her mane and tail mostly deep purple with a few saturated pink streaks through them, whilst her coat is violet. She stands at a slightly shorter than average height overall, and she’s rather short for an Earth Pony. She’s looks relatively lithe however, having developed quite a bit of muscle power in her legs. Virtue has very feminine features, her eyelashes long and clearly visible. Her mane is also very healthy and well kempt. Her eyes are of a very deep and dark blue hue, and seem to go on forever. Her facial expression is usually rather excited and hyper, but if you were to catch her playing her instrument, you would see a serene depth in her ocean blue eyes.

female Earth Pony Virtue’s cutie mark is a clef with streaks of color coming from its core. It represents Virtue’s ability to express intricate and deep emotions through music, invoking said emotion in others. https://buffy.mlpforums.com/375354aac229cb9c1ae7c4c6ea92e59b.png

Virtue is in one word, excitable. Generally full of energy, she sometimes simply can’t help the grin on her face. She tends to be able to contain herself if the situation requires it, but her energy is usually so heavily projected onto others that it either improves their mood, or makes them even more grumpy. After all some ponies can’t stand a pony that is continuously happy. Virtue does realise this, but she generally finds those kind of ponies rather unpleasurable to be around.

She’s usually not excessively hyper, and in her energy she can even be rather calm, but when she does get hyped over something, it is usually vented in a surge of words and constant motion, accompanied with one of the widest grins you can imagine.

Virtue is very talkative. She loves listening to others, but also loves talking about herself. She has a very vivid imagination, but she tends not to share her dreams since she’s rather insecure about them, feeling that they’re too far-fetched and would make her seem like too much of a dreamer. She does like to talk about what she loves doing, and sharing her very well formulated opinion on several subjects. All in all Virtue is generally a pleasurable conversation partner.

Many would quickly assume Virtue is much of a go getter. She has a no-nonsense attitude about getting things done, and usually is the first to take the initiative in everyday tasks and chores. When you get to know her more closely however, you would see that when it comes to her own dreams and desires she’s actually very insecure about them, and needs constant motivation to chase her own dreams. She often feels like she doesn’t deserve what is coming to her, isn’t ready for her own future or doesn’t want things to change, afraid that she might fail to adjust. She’s needed constant pushing from friends and family to get where she is now, and she knows and is thankful about this. It’s something she’s trying to improve about herself, and she’s very slowly learning to surpass herself and become who she’s meant to be.

Likes: Having to adjust to something she’s not familiar with (she dislikes this because she’s rather bad at it)
Showoffs
Competitions
To be excluded from things
Ignorance and lack of tolerance
Big cities
Virtue was born in Manehatten and raised there throughout her early youth. Growing up in the big city was rather difficult for Virtue, having to go to a large public school and being exposed to the dangers that a huge city brought along. She learned how to cope with it however, and became a bit of a city pony, perhaps a little arrogant and snobbish, but she was still rather young at the time.

Her parents had rather successful careers, but they took as much time as they could to spend with her. Virtue didn’t mind it too much since she received whatever she wanted. Her parents were careful not to make her too spoiled however, and taught her how to be modest and considerate. However, what her parents didn’t accommodate for was the impression that the city left on Virtue. She had her talents and dreams that she was trying to develop, but everywhere she went she saw other ponies doing it better. When she began playing saxophone, there were at least four other young ponies that were competing with her, and each of them did their best to make sure she had no confidence whatsoever. This situation slowly started into bullying, and it made Virtue rather depressed, and since she was still rather young at the time this left a mark on her.

But it wasn’t just her fellow students that were plaguing her. It was the entire atmosphere of the city that put her down. The pressure to realise one’s ambition, the endless competition, her inability to adjust to the several different groups she tried to become a part of. She tried to enter bands, but often she didn’t fit in or there were others who did a better job at presenting themselves. She faced a lot of rejection very early in her life, and the effects of this are still present in her current insecurities.

Usually one would find that receiving a cutie mark would be a happy thing, but for Virtue it was quite the opposite. High in one of the tall buildings of manehatten, she was contemplating her life after another difficult day, sitting on the balcony and staring at the sunset like many of the ponies in the apartment complex. Her parents weren’t home, and none of her friends were around to cheer her up. So she decided to pick up her saxophone and noodle a bit like she often did. As she played, she felt the sadness inside her strengthen. But instead of making her feel awful, letting the sorrow flourish made her feel better, as if she accepted her pain and knew she’d find a solution eventually.

When she finished playing, tears rolling down her cheeks, she heard sniffing and bawling noises in the distance. When she looked over the edge of the balcony to see where it came from, she saw that other ponies who’d been watching the sunset as well had heard her play, and had been so touched by it that they had been reduced to tears. There were at least eight ponies in the apartments above, below and around her that she had influenced and caused to shed a few tears, or in the case of one mare a few apartments down, start bawling uncontrollably.

As much as this flattered her, Virtue didn’t feel like this was right, so she started playing again, a happy tune this time. Within minutes she noticed the ponies around her turning their faces to her balcony and smile. She felt appreciated, she felt exceptional, and it made her even happier! And in turn her happiness was portrayed on her music and projected onto her listeners! They all laughed and clapped when she finished, and she took a small and awkward bow. When she did, she noticed a cutie mark had appeared on her flank. A grin appeared on her face, and she walked back inside.

But then she discovered that her father had come home early and had been sitting on the couch, watching her play. There were signs of his tears as well, but he’d wiped them off. It was at that night that Virtue expressed her concerns and sadness to her father, and explained that she couldn’t go on in the city anymore. Her father was so touched that they took immediate action. Although he himself was in a position that he couldn’t abandon, her mother was willing to abandon her career in the city to move to Ponyville with her daughter.

Although she’d have to miss her father, and her father would have to miss her, they could rather comfortably live in Ponyville until Virtue was old enough to go back to the city again. Her father would come to visit often, and she and her mother would go to Manehatten again from time to time, as uncomfortable as it was for Virtue. In Ponyville she made new friends and got a few jobs working in farms and at a florist. She took these jobs not because she needed the money, but because she enjoyed it’s simplicity.

She kept playing the saxophone and various instruments quite a lot however, and she came under the attention of Featherwing Zephner, who vowed to mentor her into becoming a great musician. Even though it was something she’d always wanted, she rejected at first, afraid of failing. Her parents and her friends pushed her into it however, and she’s now far more confident with her own abilities, having just started studying at the Canterlot conservatory. She’s still very unknown in the music scene and elite circles, and she still needs a lot of publicity to become successful. She’s very happy with how her life is right now however, playing in a gig from time to time and doing what she loves without many complications.

Looks good overall, but you used person once and people twice. All three instances would need to be removed. Additionally in the last line of the third paragraph from the bottom, Ponyville is mentioned, but the P isn't capitalized. Fixed that and you should be set.

@@Scribblegroove,

Hi Scribble! Just to let you know, I'm going to have to move Virtue out of Second Approval for now, as some changes made to the system have caused your character's age and WiP status to be changed so that they are incorrect. Sorry for the inconvenience, but as soon as you take care of these I will put her back into second approval. Thanks :)
