• 元良 – Yuanliang (Quatrain)

    Anneal
    • Age: 36

      Gender: Female

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Yuanliang is a fairly young orange mare with a lighter orange and long mane – her mane has light white stripes on the ends. Due to customs, however, her full mane has always been tied and hidden in public behind her cloth and flapped crown. She has light green eyes, along with a warm smile that was a trademark to the Empress.

For most formal reasons, she is seen in her yellow and purple robes, though sometimes she is seen in her more casual red robes by close family and friends. She also has her copper-alloyed family sword on her.

Cutie Mark: A thin layered grid paper on a ice-black lake, with a small brush dipped inside; Yuanliang always had a talent with calligraphy as well as short-hoof and always liked to do so in her pastime, and also shows her talent in poetry as well.

Personality: Yuanliang is a calm and soft mare, very contrary to those of her predecessors, and appears polite and modest in the public. Born after a divisive civil war within the dynasty, she genuinely has an optimistic look on maintaining the peace of the land and possibly the peace of the world.

As the former Princess Yan, Yuanliang was taught in the ways of an ideal gentle-mare, learning how to swordfight, play the guqin, and write poetry, though as of now she only really treats them as small hobbies rather than true skills. She follows and enforces her taught beliefs subtly but strictly to her family, and places honor and loyalty first, never getting into dirty tricks.

She also has a motherly side to her as well, and because of this is also appealed by commoners, and is far from violent; if she can find a way to calm tensions before they get ugly, she would certainly do so. Yuanliang's reasoning, however, is often clouded by her emotion and honor, and is rather stubborn on her morals and beliefs.

Backstory: Yuanliang (元良), surname Luo (羅), courtesy name Jianshou (建壽), was born as Princess Yan to then Prince Weigong (威共) and Lady Yuting (予艇) on the eleventh year of 4th Emperor of Liao, Nanning (南寧). She was born around the time where the conflicts between the Imperial Liao and the various tribes were finally dying down, labeled afterward as the Nine-Tribe War. As a result of the war, the Liao Dynasty was able to gain significant influence in the area and act as more of a peacekeeper during these times.

Yuanliang was taught by her charismatic and learned father, as well as her worldly and attractive mother, to be a gentle-mare – they preferred to have her live a bit more of the typical noble life than one of royalty, and they didn't quite expect their line to be ascended to the throne. She was taught in the classic scripts of previous dynasties before, and learned some of the arts that she would later take as an hobby.

Six years after her birth, however, Emperor Nanning died from illness. Although by succession rules, supposedly his oldest filly and foal Dianfeng (殿豐) was supposed to become Empress, he chose Prince Weigong to be Emperor instead, fearing that Dianfeng was too young to rule competently and rather have his brother take power.

Weigong's sudden rise to power was unfortunately followed by a change in the stallion, becoming far less cheery and more practical and strict. Yuanliang's education gradually changed to that of more down-to-earth methods, and she was taught to sword-fight and take on politics like him.

One day, the eleven-year old Yuanliang was in a class with her favorite teacher Naiwei (耐衛), she was asked to make a poem in seven steps. After a short moment, she stood up and closed her eyes, slowly pacing and making her poem on the go before writing it down. Soon enough, her flank flashed in an instance, revealing her new cutie mark; the royal family decided to celebrate it with a large banquet of another milestone in her life.

As she grew up, she became more involved in the imperial affairs; needless to say, her next two decades were rather uneventful, and she spent that time listening to the increasing tensions happening outside of the land, and worked as an official. She was often forced to go in journeys to multiple cities, and honestly felt like being left alone.

At age twenty was the mare's coming-of-age ceremony, which was announced with equal grandiose as her father's coronation or her cutie mark ceremony; she was given a new name, and at the same time she met with a bat pony mare and a unicorn stallion – Xiuyue Yi (易秀月) and Chen Yang (楊晨) who later served as her bodyguards.

Nine years later, however, Emperor Weigong similarly died from illness, and Yuanliang was given the title of Empress, much to three-years elder Dianfeng's quiet envy. Not willing to cause another tension in the imperial palace and court, Yuanliang quickly promoted Dianfeng's title as one of the head ministers, which was enough to quell her...for now. After six years of rule as the Sixth Emperor, Yuanliang hopes to stay away from the conflicts up north and promote peace.

Currently, Yuanliang has five stallion-courtesans, her main one being You Wei (? ?佑) and two foals, the elder, Shihang (適航), being a ten-year old colt, and the younger, Mingce (明冊), being an eight-year old filly.
