Aero Wind
By FortyTwo42
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Pegasus
Cutie Mark: An anemometer. It represents his passion and huge understanding of meteorology (study of weather).
Personality: Aero has an intense interest in science, especially meteorology. Although he specializes in things related to weather, his interests in science are very broad and he enjoys talking about almost anything related to science. Aside from science, Aero also enjoys activities that involve thinking strategically and logically, such as brainteasers, strategy games and puzzles. Overall, he usually enjoys any activity that requires deep thinking, and tends to be quite good at them.

In general Aero doesn’t enjoy more physical activities. However, he really enjoys casually flying around a place. He feels it brings him closer to the weather he’s so fascinated by. It also gives him a distraction-free environment to allow him to think about and reflect on things. If Aero needs to think deeply about something, he prefers to do so while flying.

An incident in Aero’s childhood has left Aero very afraid of losing any of his friends and getting on ponies’ bad sides, and he goes to great lengths to make sure that doesn’t happen. This leads to Aero really not wanting to disappoint or inconvenience his other ponies. If he is facing a problem, he rarely asks his friends for help. Instead he hides his problems from his friends and tries to solve them on his own, simply so he doesn’t become a burden to them. He has gotten very good at hiding his true feelings and putting on a brave face around friends when he’s troubled by something, and only those who know Aero very well can pick up that something’s wrong.

Aero is also very hesitant to share his opinions and speak out when he disagrees with something. When he hears someone say something he doesn’t agree with, he sometimes lies that he does agree with it simply so he doesn’t disappoint them. In a group situation, he is also very hesitant to take a leadership position and tell other ponies what to do as afraid he’ll give instructions the other ponies won’t like or give bad instructions that don’t work. He would much rather be a follower than a leader.
Backstory: As a young filly, Aero had a small group of friends from school he was very close with. But as they grew older, Aero developed interests that were very different to his friends, who all didn’t like science like he did. Aero didn’t pick up on this, and continued to talk about science passionately to his friends, who would then usually feign interest to not appear rude to Aero.

Due to his interest of weather, one day Aero excitedly but foolishly snuck outside to play about in a large storm. He enjoyed playing around in the storm, and found how different it was from more ‘normal’ weather very interesting, ultimately getting his cutie mark. However, after a while the strong winds picked up and got caught under Aero’s wings, lifting him off the ground and blowing him around before slamming him into a wall. This collusion gave Aero a broken foreleg and hospitalized him.

Aero was visited by his immediate family, but none of his friends from school came to visit. This came as a shock to Aero, as he thought he was still very close with them and at least some of them would definitely visit. When he recovered enough to leave, he asked his friends about why they didn’t see him, and they revealed that they no longer felt like they were great friends with him anymore. They explained Aero only seemed to care and talk about science, but they all weren’t interested in it. They only kept listening to avoid hurting his feelings.

Aero hated the experience of not seeing any of his supposed close friends at the hospital, feeling alone, unwanted and abandoned, and this quickly developed into a fear of losing friends and getting on others’ bad side in general. Aero became very worried about losing his relationship with his friends completely. So, he tried using a similar tactic to what his friends used with him before; he only listened and talked about what his friends wanted to talk about, even though he wasn’t really interested, and avoided talking about science with them.

This helped repair their friendship somewhat, enough that they easily enjoyed hanging out together again. Although This came at the expense of Aero enjoying himself less around his friends as his own interests didn’t come up, but it was much better than the alternative of losing them as friends completely. This continued until the end of their school years, which made talking about and partaking in others’ interests instead of his own become second nature to Aero.

Following school, Aero went to university to study meteorology. University gave Aero a chance to meet ponies with interests very similar to his, and he ultimately grew apart from his previous school friends. He still focused on addressing his new friends’ interests rather than his own, but most of their interests were the same anyway so Aero enjoyed himself more around them. Once Aero finished his studies, he remained at the university to work on meteorology research using their laboratory facilities. He also sometimes teaches smaller classes on the side, but he avoids teaching larger classes as he’s worried about being responsible for so many ponies.
