Bright Bastion (Detailed Ex)
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Species: Unicorn
Appearance: More Specifically:
He stands a couple of inches shorter than the average stallion and his ears are larger than most. His muzzle is also sharper than most males.
Cutie Mark: A Golden Shield with a Silver Banner. The golden shield represents his desire to protect ponies and his ability to do so; while the silver banner represents his loyalty and determination to uphold his word.
Personality: Bright Bastion is kind to most ponies, especially to Street Ponies. On duty as a Knight he's still kind, however he restrains himself for fear of another knight yelling at him to do his job. On duty overall he's a bit guarded. Off duty though he's much more active and outgoing. He doesn't like knights who don't take their jobs seriously and will act passively aggressive towards them off duty.

Though Bastion takes rumors with a grain of salt, he loves listening to gossip. He also has a strange obsession with Shining Armor merchandise. If any pony digs a little they'll find that Bright Bastion, although he tries to hide it, is a huge fan of Shining Armor. He also knows a lot of rumors about him.

Although he's loyal to his friends and his family, Bastion is very skeptical of people in a position of power until they've proven they can lead.

Before he was training to be a knight, Bastion had mountains of chores to do around Gallantry's Mansion. One of which was to help out in the kitchen for big dinners. However this turned from a chore into a hobby for Bastion. He loves cooking and spent many hours of his Adolescence in the kitchen.

Bastion has a terrible fear of loosing friends and hates having to put his military career first. Whenever he's not on duty he's usually trying to find something to do for his friends to "make up" for being in the castle for so long. Most ponies are very appreciative of this and some are suffocated by it, but whether one or the other (or another) they all encourage him not to push himself so hard, since he nearly works himself into exhaustion.

Backstory: Bright Bastion was born to a pair of nobles who moved away from Canterlot to escape the political tension. Bright Bastion grew up in Manehatten, having few friends but for the most part like any normal colt anywhere. When he was 10 however, his parents perished in an industrial accident. His friends parents couldn't take Bastion in and he was to be put up for adoption. Bastion, who couldn't cope with the sudden loss of his parents and his friends abandonment, fled the police station when they were preoccupied with trying to calm down the ponies that flooded in with complaints, fearing that other buildings weren't structurally sound. He wandered around in the late evening and eventually found his way back to his house. He went in, climbed the stairs to his room and wept until he fell asleep.

Later that night, he heard sounds downstairs, and rushed down hoping that he had just had a terrible nightmare, but what he found was two strangers rummaging through his kitchen. One was an earth pony filly who looked just older than him and the other was an older looking pegasus. The filly took pity on Bastion and the two street ponies got into an argument and the pegasus left the two there. The earth pony's name was Azure Fortune and Bastion, afraid of loosing any pony else and having no where else to go but back to the police, convinced her to let him go with her.

The two spent the next few months together. Bastion not knowing what his talent was, Azure constantly tried to teach him her own skills, but he couldn't lie, he couldn't sneak by people, and he wasn't very agile. Although Bastion could pick up on what ponies could say, his big ears heard many rumors that circled through the streets and the information helped the two survive for as long as they did. Azure would steal their food while Bastion could walk among the crowds and blend in with his innocent looks. Together they lasted through the summer months, though they spent many days without shelter and nothing but the stars above them. And even though they were nothing special to Azure, Bastion always loved looking up at the stars before falling asleep.

Soon however a relative of Bastion's named Crimson Castle came to visit the graves of his parents. She was a Unicorn and a royal Knight Cadet in Canterlot. She soon started to search the city for him and he and Azure started planning to leave. They needed to steal a lot of food to be able to leave the city, and the soon Bastion caught a lead on a large store that was easily thieved. However that was a trick, Crimson spread the rumor to set up a trap for the two and Bastion, who couldn't get away fast enough, stood his ground to let Azure escape as he was captured. Every morning Castle would bring him breakfast in his cell and in a weeks time the policecolts told him that Crimson Castle had obtained Guardianship over him.

On the train ride to Canterlot, Castle tried to connect with him but he would ignore her. By the end of the train ride, he opened up to her a little more, after her telling him about why she was looking for her parents in the first place, to learn more about her own mother who died when she was young. She hadn't known they were passed, but she explained she wasn't head of the family so she guessed her Father didn't care for the information.

At the Train station the two were met by two stallions, one was tall aged and grey, his mane was short and neat and he wore a suit. His cutie mark was an old family crest. Castle introduced him as her father and Bastion's uncle, Gallantry. The stallion said "greetings," in a deep and grainy voice, but hardly anything else. The other stallion was just as tall as gallantry and looked like he could be Bastion's brother. His coat was much brighter, closer to white than yellow, and his main was long and strait as well as a stunning yellow. He regarded Bastion warmly unlike Gallantry. His cutie mark was a shield in the foreground and two crossed swords behind it. She introduced him as Dawn Light, her training buddy. He wore knight's armor and politely excused himself after meeting Bastion and greeting 'Cas' back to the city.

Afterwards, Gallantry and Castle took him around a short tour of the capital before arriving at their house, which looked more like a mansion to Bastion. Castle helped settle Bastion in and left for the night, but he wasn't very comfortable sleeping there and ended up staying awake through the night. While he got settled in he met the staff that kept the mansion and many of them welcomed him warmly while Gallantry avoided talking to him. A week passed and Castle, finally having a day away form her knighthood, took Bastion on a walk through town and talked to him about her father wanting Bastion to be trained as a knight. Though Bastion stayed quite through most of the conversation, he had seen some pony he recognized in an alley, Azure Fortune.

Once back in the mansion, he attempted to sneak out but was caught off guard when he was spotted by Dawn Light, the knight from his first day who was just leaving from him visit with Castle. Though he let him off without much questioning he followed Bastion out of the mansion and into the city. Azure found Bastion Before he could get incredibly lost in the alley but before they could say anything three older rich ponies cornered Azure. Bastion intervened, but just one pony overwhelmed Bastion while the other two were having trouble pinning down Azure. Before it escalated though, Dawn Light broke up the fighting and captured the three ponies, however in doing so Azure and Bastion escaped Light.

The two talked a little before Azure denied to let Bastion come with her. Bastion persisted but now Azure was adamant about Bastion staying with his family, even going so far as insulting him so he would stay with them. She left and easily lost him, but Bastion not seeing the meaning of her words ran after her calling out her name. It wasn't hard for Light to find him, bawling in an alleyway.

He took him home and tried to talk him out of his stupor without much luck. When they reached the mansion, Dawn stopped and told Bastion to sit with him and look at the stars. Bastion looked up at them but couldn't bring himself to take more than a glance. But Light insisted, he started naming constellations and the stories behind them. Eventually Bastion's curiosity did get the better of him and started asking questions about the myths.

After Light was done listing the constellations he knew, he started prodding Bastion as to who the filly was. After he told him, Light put a hoof on his shoulder. He told him about being a knight, being strong and being a protector. About his own experiences and his own decisions. And Bastion admitted that even as a little colt, he always played the knight in pretend. He admitted that he didn't want to be taken care of anymore, that he wanted to be able to take care of everypony else. He decided then that he wanted to be a knight, to protect the ponines, to be strong enough to not let anypony else slip through the cracks like his parents and his old friends and even Azure. Then he gained his cutie mark, a golden shield and a silver banner.

The following day, Castle and Gallantry barely recognized Bastion, now full of spirit and energy after his week of sullenness. Soon after, he was privately tutored to bring his education back to speed and until he graduated. Then he was put into his Knight Training.
