Dark Snow
Age: 1428 (Looks and acts 17)
Gender: Female
Species: Non-Pony
Cutie Mark: A snowflake, the only difference being, at each end of the ice crystals it swirls into what seems to be some sort of mist.
Personality: Suspicious of...pretty much everyone. A bit of a trickster. Mischievous. Curious. Very mysterious. Cunning. Kind once you make it into her small circle of friends. Very caring of her friends.
Backstory: Not much is known of Snow's backstory...she doesn't remember much past a few hundred years...but we can start at the beginning.

Snow was born by the name Wind Whistle.
She lived near Neighagra falls, in between there and Manehattan.
Her mother Light Mane had left her father several months earlier...truth is she was only with him for his money. But of course she got a little more than she bargained for.
It was about three in the morning when Snow was born and even though Light hadn't really meant to have a child...she was quite happy none the less.
Oh...one other thing...Light was a thief. Quite good at it too.

Light would often use Snow in her cons to make things go a little smoother. Light and Snow traveled around for a few years stealing and selling whatever they could. It was only when Snow was about 5 she started to question her lifestyle. She had often dreamed of living away in a castle without a single worry of guards or only being able to eat every few days, but her mother pushed those thoughts from Snow's mind as soon as Snow even mentioned it.

Snow's life went on the same since then. Her and her mother moving from place to place, searching for anything of value...but it all changed when Snow turned 11. Her mother was caught by several guards. Snow watched from behind a dumpster as her mother was pulled off down the street...which was the last Snow ever saw her.

Snow wandered the city streets from then on, stealing food and bits from ponies bags until she was caught as well...but the colt who caught her could see that she was alone and suffering in the cold. Rather then calling for the guards...he took pity on her and decided he'd take her home and give her some place to stay and work.

Snow was quite excited at the fact that she wouldn't be forced to sleep out in the cold and agreed.
The colt (Who's name was Lightning Struck) set her up in his daughters room (She'd left to travel the world several years earlier).
Lightning gave Snow a few days to adjust to her new life before he began teaching her how to work with metal and such.
Snow was thrilled at the idea of working with a blacksmith and was eager to start but...she hadn't expected how difficult it truly was.

After some time she had learnt enough to make simple things like daggers and small swords on her own but really, the most she did to help Lightning in his shop was take out deliveries or go buy more metals for the shop. Oh, she also got her cutie mark, which was a small piece of metal above a fire. As much as she loved it...something about it didn't feel right.

Life went on just the same until she turned 17...

One cold winter day, Snow walked through the small town of Hollow Shades when the town was attacked by a group of bandits. They showed no mercy and killed many towns folk. Most of the towns stronger ponies fought them off including Lightning who told Snow to run home, which is exactly what she did.

She ran out of the town and down the small path towards Lightnings hut...but three bandits caught up with her. They figured that the blacksmith would be distracted with their friends in the town so they forced Snow to take them to the hut.

They took everything of value before they dragged snow out into the woods and...slit her throat.

Snow watched them run off out of sight as she lay, bleeding out on the ground. Her vision became foggy and she saw one last glimpse of Lightning running towards her before...she blacked out.

From then, no one knew what happened to her. Her body was buried in the woods and many of the towns folk mourned at her passing...but since then, a strange mare had been seen in the woods. None had talked to her but many said they had seen her at the blacksmiths home every so often...including the day he died several years later.

Since then ponies had called the forest haunted by a mysterious zebra seeking...who knows what.

These rumors became more and more impossible throughout the years until it turned into the legend of The Winter Forest Spirit.

All of these rumors had become simple ghost stories to frighten younger ponies until an alicorn mare from Prance.

The mare had often searched for more to life then she had back home...her parents were highclass ponies who thought the idea of their daughter being an adventurer totally preposterous. Genevieve planned on proving them wrong.

She had heard much of this haunted forest and planned on banishing the spirit for the towns folk...who all laughed. Genevieve's stubborn attitude led to her entering the forest alone and attempting a spell she had learnt a few weeks before hand.

At first she thought nothing had happened until she noticed a young zebra laying at her hooves.

Genevieve quickly moved to help the mare who...in response, jumped to her hooves and...basically freaked out.

Snow remembered nothing from her past except small bits here and there, all she remembered was a sudden light and then...she awoke...in the middle of the forest...but something was different, it was almost as if she could feel the woods around her, the breeze in the trees, the snow falling to the ground...it was so calming, it was as if she had become a part of the forest.

She still felt that same connection but it was different, it was like something just sitting at the back of her mind, still there but...rather faint.
Her cutie mark had also changed. It changed from the metal above the fire to a snow flake, which almost seemed to swirl, even if Snow wasn't moving. The ends of the snow flake would twirl around like mist.

Snow decided to join Genevieve on her travels in hopes to recover pieces of her memory. During their travels, Snow discovered much about her new life, but almost nothing of her old. She discovered she could...dissipate into mist and reform when she pleased, though she found it rather tiring and did need to rest afterwords.

It was a couple days after she and Genevieve had met when she heard the rumors in the town. She'd put the pieces together and figured out that she must have become some sort of...host for the woods...like she was chosen to be the spirit that protected Winter Woods.

And there she is, the spirit of Winter Woods travelling around Equestria to recover her lost memories.
