• Daylight

    Dave247

    • Age: 20

      Gender: Male

      Species: Unicorn

      Appearance:
Daylight is a Goldenrod male unicorn with short, thick Cream coloured mane and tail and Mantis coloured eyes.
He is tall, skinny and lanky for his height which is a little taller then the average pony.

      Cutie Mark:
His cutie mark is a eight point star with fourteen dots, two in-between each point.

It signifies his ability to use magic to light up dark areas with his horn, heal minor to moderate injuries however weakening him in the process. The longer and brighter he maintains either spell spell on for the faster it drains his energy.
He can also if needed, channel the light energy into the form of a weapon similar to that of a "laser", which needs to be charged. However, this is very taxing on him and can easily exhaust him extremely quickly to the point of passing out if he holds it for too long. Due to his personality though, Day will almost never use this and only ever use this as a very last resort if all other options have been exhausted.

      Personality:
Daylight is a good pony. He always seeks to do what is right and just even when it means he has to go out of his way to do so. However, he will never place the course of justice above mercy.
Furthermore, he is determined that once he starts something he is passionate about he won’t give up until he sees it to it's very end.
Other ponies will value his diligence, as well as his input as Day is extremity honest as he has nothing to hide. Due to this though he is initially rather trusting to others as he assumes that they will show him back the same level of honesty that he has shown them, unless he has reason to assume otherwise.

Additionally, Day is kind and friendly and is always willing to help others in need but at the same time, is a little hesitant initially until he has analyzed the situation, as he doesn't want to become involved in something that will only serve to waste his time if the task itself is questionable, unless he considers the said pony as a friend in which case he will assist them without question.

Due to being introverted Day can sometimes struggle to socialize in a group, and thus often seen as being rather quiet and reserved by others. He prefers talking one on one with somepony as it feels less threatening to him and he can have a more personal conversation with them.
Because of this he has little ponies he would consider to be actual friends, and while he enjoys his solitude at times it can get quite lonely. Other ponies are often surprised though when they engage him in a conversation to how talkative he can actuality be.

Day also would be considered something of a pacifist to most, and is strongly insistent that all situations can be resolved peacefully without conflict, despite that deep down he knows this isn't and never will be realistically true. He will seldom engage in a fight himself unless forced to and all other forms of action have been exhausted.

      Backstory:
Daylight lent back in his office chair situtated in the bustling city of Manehatten, with his feet resting against his desk while he sipped his strong morning tea. He thought back to everything he been though to get where he was now.

When he was a young colt living in Ponyville, Day enjoyed maths although he wasn't very good at it. Problem solving was what he loved the most. He would sit and spend a lot of time, just on the one problem until he was satisfied he had explored every angle of it before moving on. Which was a issue as he would often get stuck on tests not wanting to progress until he had answered his current problem, meaning that there were a lot of questions he never got around to even attempting. He also struggled memorizing his multiplication tables and formulas, which together with his determination to answer every question put in front of him made it increasingly difficult as he progressed though school. Until he eventually gave up in frustration at maths as well as school altogether as he viewed it a waste of his time and decided to focus his attention elsewhere.

It was then that Daylight turned to the community. He had always liked being helpful and it was due to a old friend from school that got him started. They were sitting talking one afternoon when the idea was brought up.
"You know... you should go and offer your assistance to the other ponies of Ponyville. Their all a rather friendly bunch, and I think they would be very grateful to have someone like you offer to help."
His friend then paused and smirked a little while he thought back to their days at school.
"For example, you remember that time when the teacher broke down in class because she couldn't take how rowdy we had all become? I never told you this but, I peeked back in the room after she had dismissed everyone and saw you still there, trying to do your best to comfort her. It would also give you something to do then just sit around all day not doing anything". His friend added with a smile.

Day initially responded by blushing and looking rather shy, as he didn't realize anypony had seem him. Once he recovered though, he refused much to the dismay of his friend. In his mind, just the thought of it made him feel uncomfortable as he didn't want to go around asking random ponies for any jobs as he feared that he would look weird and stupid, and at the same time deep down, scared of the possibility of them rejecting his assistance. His friend though, continuously remaining insistent, eventually got fed up and let slip to a pony they were talking to that his friend Day, could help with the problem that they were discussing.

On one other afternoon that the two of them were catching up again at a later date, Day was a little unnerved by his friend's sly smile that he maintained while they talked,. He suspected he was hiding something from him, which wouldn't be the first time either.
Not to long afterwards, a pony that Daylight had never met before approached where the two of them were sitting and struck up a conversation with him.
"Your Daylight right? Your friend told me you could help me with something." The unknown pony said gesturing over to Day's friend, who was now sniggering.
"Uhhh..." Daylight replied, not knowing what to say being put on the spot like this, and then shot a glaring look at his friend before managing to regain his composure.
It was because of this, Day could not refuse the offer as he did not want to let his friend down, and due to word of mouth, this was only the beginning.
"Thanks pal!" The unknown pony beamed at Day having had his problem resolved. "I'm going to tell everyone I know about how good of a job you did!" He said, before walking off, leaving Day with a dumbfound expression as the realization of what had been said slowly sunk in.

After a few blinks, Day heard the distant sound of a pony sniggering right beside him, which he turned to see his friend standing there trying his best not to laugh at his expression.
"... I hate you." Was all Daylight could say in response while frowning, which had become to much for his friend so he burst out in laughter.
To this day, Daylight is still uncertain if that his friend had accidentally or deliberately mentioned his name, as whenever he had asked he would never get a straight answer. But looking back, it didn't matter to him as he was thankful for it as he probably would not be where he was today if it wasn't for that.

Since leaving school though, Daylight had no idea what his special talent was but knew he took pleasure in helping other ponies with their problems as it gave him a good feeling seeing them happy, and it gave him something to do. So he decided to just keep on with that hoping one day his cutie mark would one day appear. He was able to cast a very basic light spell, but so could everypony else and so at the time and as it was a common spell for older, more matured ponies that he did not think anything of it at the time.
It was during one task where a pony that he had previously assisted approached him seeking his assistance on a sensitive matter.
"I... don't know who else to trust. This means a lot to me so I trust that you can get it done without anypony else having to know."
Day accepted, only because he did not want to let them down despite some intial reluctance mainly due to being unsure if he would be able to fulfill the task.

Later that night, Daylight was walking around the streets of Ponyville, as earlier that day following the initial conversation, he had been instructed that he would only be find what he was looking for now.
He tried his best to keep an eye out for anything that moved but, Luna's night cast dark shadows over the town whenever he looked that he started to feel a little uneasy that something could just jump out at him of it. Day tried to cast his basic light spell but it was mostly ineffective as he was unable to concentrate and sustain it due to his nerves.
Suddenly, he heard glass shattering nearby, which startled him before quickly recovering and running off to investigate the noise. When he arrived at the scene, glass shards were scatted all over the ground, presumably from the house's broken window nearby. He then heard the noise of hooves, and looked up to see a shadowy figure disappear into the darkness. Day took chase after it always just barely keeping up but as it was too dark he was unable to effectively track the silhouette for long and soon lost it. Day was disappointed and also worried about what he was going to say the next morning reporting his progress. It made him wish that there was a source of light he could carry around with him as the ones placed around the town were few and far between. It made Daylight rather frustrated and annoyed at how useless his basic light spell was, as most other ponies his age that were fluent with magic had already mastered it, even before levitation. During this time while he thought over how useless he was, he didn't notice his horn begin to tingle and spark due to his frustration building up, until he felt a sudden sharp pain in his forehead which made him wince slightly.
"Great... just great... now my horn is playing up which is causing my head to hurt." he thought while rubbing his temple with his hoof while scrunching his eyes, which meant he failed to notice the slight glow that was beginning to emanate from his horn.
"Could this night get any worse!" He accidentally said a little loud out of annoyance, opening his eyes and using the same hoof to stamp the ground once, before his horn erupted with a bight flash of light which made him stagger back immediately closing his eyes again and shielding them with a hoof.
After waiting a few secounds, Day slowly lowered the hoof from his face and noticed that there was a was soft, warm light, which to his surprise was emanating from his horn.

Now that the surrounding area was illuminated, Day noticed a slight but distant blood trail where whatever it was must have cut themselves from one of the glass shards, which he had missed before as he had not been able to see it. He followed it along at quick trot to its end where he found a young colt curled up hiding behind a box crying, exhausted, and in pain nusing one of his hooves, which on closer inspection Day could see was where the cut was.
Day sternly eyed at the colt at first as if a visual assessment. He could see the pain in his eyes, as well as the fearful plea as the colt was worried about his fate.
Daylight then changed his expression to one of kindness, as took pity on him as he was just a young colt after all and knelt down, hugging the colt tightly and reassuring him it would be alright so that he could hopefully gain his trust. he knew though that something would need to be done about his injury if they were to go anywhere because he didn't have the strength to carry the colt himself. Day couldn't help yawning as it was getting quite late and could feel the effects of his Light spell already starting to take its toll.

As Day inspected the injury and the small amount of blood surrounding it closely, a strange sensation passed over him. It was like he could feel the young colts pain himself to an extent. His horn also began tingle and spark again which gave him an idea, as silly and stupid as it seemed. He touched his still lit horn to the injury and closed his eyes, contrasting as much as he could on the sensation, which made his horn pulse as he could feel a distinct warmth emanating from it. Day then tilted his head back up and opened his eyes to see that to both of their surprise, the cut had been healed. As Day stood up though, he could feel the blood rush to his head which made him stagger back a little dizzy feeling quite tired now, as he was still trying to maintain the source of light he was providing. The young colt who was grateful to Day for showing kindness to him gave him no trouble as he let Day escort him home, though it was more of the other way around as Day himself was starting to feel a bit light headed and distracted due to now being very late and having used a lot of energy.

When the pair of them arrived at the Colt's house, despite being tired Day made sure to fully explain to his parents what their son had been up to that night.
"You've done me a great service Daylight. I knew I was right to come to you earlier today". The Colt's Father talked with him, while the Mother fussed over her "little angel" as she called him in the background.
Daylight smiled tiredly looking past the stallion before returning his attention and nodding in response.
"Rest assured, the appropriate action will be taken, and I trust in your silence that the full details of this will not get out. The last thing we need is news getting out that would tarnish our family's name." He said rather sternly to Day.
Again, Day nodded, and was about to wish the stallion a good night before he stopped having thought of one more thing to say.
"Pardon me for saying so but..." Daylight began nervously. He wasn't sure if he would be overstepping his boundaries with what he was about to say next or not.
"I don't think you should be too hard on your son. After all, he is still only a young Colt, with many years until he matures into a stallion, and the last thing you would want is fro him to grow up resenting he's parents."
The Father didn't reply at first, except for intensifying his stern gaze on Day which made him feel a little unnerved. he tried his best to keep a non-chalent expression though.
"I thank you for your input, but would prefer if you didn't try and educate me on how to raise my own children. Goodnight Daylight." The stallion said, with a hint of hostility in his voice while still remaining respectful. Daylight then responded with a simple Goodnight still trying his best to remain non-chalent, before he turned to walk away as he heard the door close behind him. While walking home, Day thought over whether or not he should have said what he did, and blamed it on his tiredness. As soon as he got home he collapsed on his bed and fell asleep immediately as he had never used up that much energy in one day before.

The next day while he was out for a walk in the town, a mature Mare approached him, which he identified as the Colt's mother from last night. She told him how the her son had explained to both them after Day had left the kindness he had showed him, and even how she had overheard what he had said to her husband.
"You sure did put him in his place." She said giggling to him. "After he closed the door he clearly did not look happy, but that quickly changed after he pressed our son for what had happened. I don't think he believed what you had said to him at first, but after talking with our boy, he had a clear look of confusion on his face and was lost for words, so he just went straight up to bed. Don't worry though." She quickly added noticing the now concerned expression from Day. "He's was much better this morning. I'm not entirely sure but... I think something in his head finally clicked. Which is good because I've been trying to endlessly drill into him what you said in a sentence for years now." She said giggling again, which Day responded with a shy and awkward smile while he rubbed the back of his head with a hoof. He was about to say something before the mare began to speak again.
"Anyway, I must be off now. Got shopping to do, as these groceries won't buy themselves. Goodbye Daylight, and most importantly, thank you. I'm sure a pony with your 'talents'", she said while indicating at his flank, "has a lot of great things ahead of them." And with a warm smile, she turned and left, leaving a very confuised Day wondering what on earth she meant by 'talents'. He stretched his neck around to inspect his flanck, expecting it to be black as it always had been, but to his great surprise, there was his cutie mark.

As time went on though, Day became dissatisfied with the slow life in Ponyville and felt there was more out there for him, so he decided to move to to busy Manehatten having matured into a stallion to further follow his idea of help solve problems for others. He decided to become a Private Investigator and rented out an apartment which would double as his office. He would pay the rent using the money from cases he solved which would also hopefully be enough also for food and sometimes a luxury as long as he kept himself busy solving cases.

Fast forward back to where he was now. Day had solved a filling cabinet full of cases and had made quite the name for himself. He would sometimes be featured in the paper but only ever as a small story just to fill the space. Former clients he'd helped would sometimes recognize him when he walking though the city and thank him for all the good he was doing in the city. Although he wasn't rich, he was happy because he was doing what he loved, and was earning a wage for it at the same time.

He sat there, taking another sip of his tea, which made him cringe as it had now gone disgustingly cold as he had spent too long reminiscing about the past he had completely forgotten about it. He got up out of his chair to make himself another cup while he looked out the window.
He wondered what his next case would be. It was over a week since his last and he was starting to get desperate for something to happen. He hoped that whatever ever it is, would happen very soon. The thought of his home town of Ponyville crossed his mind, and how he would like to go back and visit Ponyville one day as he was starting to miss the quiet little town with it's simplicity compared to the hustle and bustle of Manehatten, but he wasn't sure if anypony would remember him there now.
