• Dazzleberry

    TheImaginaryAlicorn

    • Age: 28

      Gender: Female

      Species: Pegasus

Appearance: (Her cutie mark is not shown, however it does exist)

Cutie Mark: Dazzles' cutie mark, representing her special talent of baking, is of an assortment of sparkling berries. Her mark appeared when she was 7 years old after making a full-course meal for her parents for Mothers' Day. This meal consisted of a hay-and-potato soup, a vegetable salad with dressing Dazzle made, stuffed grape vine leaves, huge stuffed bell peppers, and assorted berry mini-cakes with sparkle dust* and giant strawberries on top. When she presented this to her parents, her father said, "My - I'm dazzled, darling!"

Personality: Dazzleberry usually seems very polite and quiet, always says please and thank you, and speaks only when spoken to, as she was taught to by her parents. However, this is only what she acts like in front of company - she is truly a sweet, gentle pony, but there's another side. She has a great sense of humor and is a fun-loving mare, but only ponies who are very close to her know that. Even Dazzles' parents think their daughter is a mannerly Canterlot pony.

Dazzleberry is a teensy bit of a liar, but most often she does tell the truth, and she is occasionally a prankster, but only is somepony really annoys her. Extremely critical of her own work, Dazzle will accept nothing less than perfection, but she often praises others for work even if it's only okay. Unless she is asked or feels strongly about something, she'll keep her opinions to herself. She is dreadfully afraid of spiders.

Her favorite food to make (although she rarely does) is her own creation, the Rainbow Dazzler Cupcake, which is a zap-apple cupcake with rainbow filling (yes, actual rainbows) and rainbow frosting, which has gems on it in a beautiful and sparkly pattern colored, you guessed it, rainbow. It is a magical cupcake with magical effects, thus it requires magic to make, but pegasi do have a bit**, and Dazzle has figured out how to harness it for baking this specific cupcake. It requires enough magic to deplete her flight abilities quite a bit, which is the main reason why Dazzleberry almost never makes them, as well as the fact that they are incredibly difficult to create and need large amounts of practice. She only makes one or two at a time. This cupcake is truly dazzling.

Backstory: Dazzleberry was born and raised in Canterlot, and she shows it. She has many friends, few of them knowing or suspecting what she's really like. As a filly, Dazzle lived in a large mansion with a well-equipped and fully-stocked kitchen. She went to a private school, Snoot Academy, and met many other ponies there, including her best friends, Pond Shimmer, a grey-ish blue filly with a silver mane and tail and seaweed-green eyes, who eventually became a very attractive yound mare, and her once-"future special somepony," Healthshine, a white-coated colt with a dirty-blonde mane and tail and deep purple eyes, and he grew up into a very handsome stallion.

Dazzle met Pond Shimmer and Healthshine in first grade. They all had similar interests and bonded quickly. The three were all very classy in front of others, but when nopony else was around, the three had fun. Well, not Healthshine who believed that manners were law. Whenever he was un-posh, it was for a reason. Dazzleberry and Pond Shimmer often gossiped about their crushes. Many colts caught Pond Shimmers' fancy, but Dazzleberry stayed consistent - the stallion for her was Healthshine.

When she was a teen, Dazzle got her wish, and she started dating Healthshine, who had previously discovered his special talent at doctoring and earned his cutie mark of a red cross. They had private, romantic picnics and secret kisses. Healthshine stole ingredients from kitchens for Dazzle to bake with, which was a large gesture for him. Dazzleberry once said to him, "Shiny?" "Hm?" he said, half-asleep. They were having another one of their picnics, in the shade of the peach tree on a lazy afternoon. "Shiny, I love you." He sat up a little more and smiled. "And I will always love you, Daz."

Dazzleberry later went to a culinary school and went on to become a proffesional chef, with her own resturant and bakery called "Dazzling Delights." After the successful grand opening day, the first thing Dazzle did was find Healthshine, who was now a real, certified, Canterlot doctor. She came into his office and said jokingly, "Doctor Shiny?" He whirled around in his chair and grinned. "Dazzleberry! How are you? I haven't seen you in..my, it must have been a decade!" This was strange - Healthshine used to kiss Dazzleberry to greet her, and he always called her by her pet name, Daz. Dazzy later learned that he had changed since she last saw him, before he went to medical school. Healthshine had grown up. He was a mature Canterlot snoot. He wasn't her Shiny anymore, he was the rich Doctor Healthshine of Canterlot, and he didn't love her, at least not like before.

After this upset, Dazzle went to her other old friend, Pond Shimmer. Pond Shimmer was now a beautiful, full-grown mare who had a job as the owner of a fish emporium. Dazzle entered Pond Shimmers' shop and went to the front desk, where Shimmer was talking with a pony who was interested in some goldfish, similar to those on Pond Shimmers' cutie mark of two fish circling around each other yin and yang-style. "Dazzleberry, darling! My old friend!" She turned to her customer. "Could you excuse me for a moment?" The pony nodded. "But of course."

As Shimmer led Dazzleberry to the back of the store, Dazzle grew worried that she had changed too, but as soon as they were out of earshot of the other ponies in the shop, Shimmer smiled the immature kind of filly smile she used to use when she was thinking of doing something that was against the rules. In her cockney accent she had somehow picked up, she shouted cheerfully, "Dazzy! Good to see ya, mate! Did you pull any pranks in cul'nary school I should hear 'bout?" Relieved, Dazzle replied, "Hey, Shimmy! I did replace one particularly annoying mares' shampoo with frosting, but that's not why I'm here." "Aw, I wanted to catch up a little." "Maybe later," Dazzleberry said, "but for now I want to talk to you about something." Pond Shimmers' filly-ish grin dissapeared. "What is it?" "Well, I went to visit Healthshine, and he seemed... different..." Pond Shimmer pointed into her mouth and fake-gagged. "I noticed. I've been in town for a few days, and man, he's been a PAIN. When I try to talk to him, he looks at me like I'm some little annoying fly buzzing around his face. He got mad at some colt teen for stealing ONE ingredient from his kitchen. That's not too bad! Just deal with it!" That did it. Dazzleberry was crushed - Healthshine used to do that kind of thing for her, and now he looks down on it. "Look, I have to get back to work," Pond Shimmer said, "but it was nice chatting. See you later?" The two said their goodbyes and Dazzleberry went back to her bakery.

Over the next few weeks, Dazzle met with her parents and other friends, and she went out with Healthshine several times. She couldn't bring herself to break up with him. She soon regretted it, because he proposed. When faced with the question, Dazzle was flustered. "Oh, Healthshine, I- I don't know what to say, I-... I need some time to think." She didn't know what to do. If she broke up with him now, Healthshines' healthy heart would break, but if she said yes, she and Healthshine would be married for the rest of their lives, and she certainly didn't want that. Her parents did, it seemed. They were thrilled when they heard the news and urged Dazzle to say yes. They didn't know Healthshine personally, but they knew he was a rich, mannerly doctor who would take care of their daughter.

She didn't have a choice - there was only one thing to do...
