Appearance: Deadwood is a pony of little means, preferring to wear a simple vest with crisscrossed lacing on the front for whenever he ties it tightly for his work. Usually, he carries two saddlebags containing materials for the job he completes. Each saddlebag is light leather, very light brown in appearance, with a blue swirl painted on the fronts.
Cutie Mark: His cutie mark is a compass over a map, signifying his standing as a cartographer, and his photographic memory that, unfortunately, mostly applies to maps.
Personality: Deadwood is not a happy pony. He can be snarky, sarcastic, and downright rude, although it is from extenuating circumstances. He does not like to see ponies in need, and generally tries to be helpful, although he lets others take the credit.
Backstory: Deadwood did not start out as an Earth Pony, but as a happy young unicorn living in Canterlot. His mother, a brilliant Unicorn under Celestia, was happily married to an orange-farming Earth Pony. One day, Deadwood and his father were busying themselves with a game of tag while his mother went inside their rather humble home to fetch some orange juice for refreshment. Almost as soon as she entered, though, the house burst into flames.

The house burning, Deadwood's father galloped inside, unfortunately becoming trapped. Both died that day as a result.

Deadwood became exceedingly depressed afterwards, often lashing out at others. Many of his classmates at the school he was attending compounded the problem by making fun of the 'orphan.' Deadwood galloped as far away as he could from Canterlot, wearing naught but his favourite vest, a stream of tears flowing behind him.

A patrol from a nearby frontier town discovered him unconscious inside a grove of dead trees, a dead wood. Deadwood is not his real name, but the name he took to become someone else to deal with the pain.

He joined the Cartography Commission, but has been an entry-level Cartographer for seven years, two years beyond what it should have been.
