Backstory: Once summoned by an unknown source a high dense magic pool floated within a runic circle, waiting to be used for a spell. But instead of being used, the summoner disappeared. The magical energy ball that floated within the rune circle just existed in this place, waiting for the process of being used, but this would never happen. Centuries went by, and the rune circle which held the pool of raw magic got damaged. The spell which had summoned the magic and the task it had to fulfill got unstable within the core of the structure. Something changed within the spell and formed a new one and filled the place with new runes, creating and calculating itself again and again until… it awakened.

The raw magic within the circle evolved into an entity with an own consciousness, scanning the surroundings and being aware of being a life form. The circle was within a cave or a cavern and the entity could sense life outside. It wanted to go outside, exploring and learning because it did not know the reason if its existence. But because of some main runes on the ground, it could not move away. So decades went by and within this time, it sharpened its senses and analyzing abilities. Then, something happened. A little animal came into the cavern, perhaps because of curiosity. It noticed the entity and got near it, sensing no particular danger at the moment. It was a little lynx, getting near the magic ball of energy. The entity was curious about the animal and lowered its altitude, letting the lynx surrounding it. At the lynx reached out a paw to see if the entity is dangerous or not, something happened.

Within the moment of the touch and without unintentionally the entity send an energy wave through the lynx and getting it back, scaring the little fella. The cat run away out of the cavern as the runes begun to change anew. The entity formed from a ball of pure energy into a ghostly creature with legs. It had copied the lynx form and… something else. The entity could feel emotions, thoughts, memories and instinct. It had copied the complete soul from the lynx with a few changes because of the unstable spell. But what to do now? As the ghostly lynx looked around, it noticed that the runes where gone. As it got aware of its new abilities it chose to create a normal form of an animal to adapt to the material world. The ghost left the cave and begun to explore an unknown world and for many years it studied animals, ponies, dragons and other creatures alike. It learned to read books on times were normal ponies were asleep.

It studied magical books and history to understand the purpose of his existence. Wandering between the real and the ghostly world, it developed several abilities, but something was missing within his existence… contact to other living beings. It tried to get in contact with several creatures but always got dismissed. Lonely and somewhat sad, it wanted to go back into the forest where it came from. He was captured by an unknown pony unicorn and forced to defend a magical artefact in trade for his freedom, the magic of the unicorn that strong that he couldn´t resist. Since he was in his material form he wasn´t able to defend himself against unicorn magic. He guarded the artefact and send a secret message to the outside world. But many years past by and no creature came for help. But one day, a blue mare came into the dungeon of the artefact. After some talk and some events, the visitor and the entity came to a solution, and the artefact was now guarded by the mare and he got his freedom.

“Do you have a name little fellow?” the blue Pegasus asked him. The entity shook its head, not knowing a name. “Well, then I call you… umm… Duran! Duran the lynx. Hope you like it.” The Pegasus said.

The entity, overwhelmed by the warm-hearted pony, just nodded. Since then, Duran stayed with the pony, known as Iron Wing Celes Grayhoove as her pet and friend. He started to help her with her job and of course continued study every knowledge he could lay a paw on.
