Cutie Mark: A paintbrush wrapped by a thorny rose.

Why the brush? She's an artist. While she does use watercolor paints, she also uses pastels and colored pencils, even photography. She has a creative mind, which she applies to more than just art.

Why the rose? Petals conceal thorns like how one would have to look at a picture twice to discern its meaning. She is often concerned with "Why?"
Personality: Dusk Rose isn't the most expressive of ponies. It's rare for her to raise her voice, she doesn't get offended easily, and she's just in general pretty mellow in casual situations. She often gets a more serious look when thinking deeply about something, which she does very often. She has yet to figure out why many in the past considered her a perpetual grump.

However, her relaxed and stoic natures belie her passion and sense of wonder. She has an eye for art and beauty, seeking to capture the world around her. More than that though, she tries to capture the abstract. To do so, she observes the world and looks inward, trying to make sense of it all. As mentioned above, her method of thinking has its use outside of art.

She tries to see both the good and bad in everyone. She refuses to see in black and white, refuses to believe that roses are without thorns. As a result, she doesn't hesitate to point out what she sees in others when she feels it's appropriate. Unfortunately, she doesn't always know when it's best to be blunt. It might've motivated her to try and figure others out, but her social skills still need sharpening.

As much as she tries to stay self-aware, she tends to lose sight of what makes her good and focus on what makes her flawed. She's aware even of that, but awareness alone won't erase it.
Backstory: Dusk Rose was born in Canterlot to a unicorn mare and an earth pony stallion. Unfortunately, she had been born to a long-failing relationship and was only six when she and her father moved to Fillydelphia. Still though, she maintains a good relationship with her mother and younger half brother.

Living in a historical place, her father often pointed out various monuments to her and told her their story. His stories were full of heroics and great sacrifice, but he never beat around the bush when it came to the murky side of history. "But why?" Dusk so often asked. He patiently answered every question, but there came a day when the hospital needed him around and wasn't able to answer Dusk. So she did her own research, poring over many books in the local library. The story she came across and analyzed was so different from what she was taught in school that she decided to try and depict the other side and their emotions with pastels. So proud of it she was, that she wanted to pursue more mysteries and make some herself for others to interpret. That was when her cutie mark appeared.

In settings were she's an adult, her official job is that of an investigator, where she apply her analytical mind and passion for the truth to helping others and receiving a steady paycheck. She makes and sells art on the side.
