Appearance: as above image, but note that she is just a bit taller than average for a mare.
Cutie Mark: Her cutie mark is a gardenia flower, and at it's basic it represents her passion and talent for tending to the royal gardens.

Of course, it is also symbolic in nature, of purity, innocence, and secret love.
Personality: Gardenia is a pony who holds her ideals very strongly. She earnestly believes that a just world is possible, that ponies are naturally good, and that any conflict can be resolved without harm to any of the parties involved.

She has a caring personality, and is generally sensitive to other ponies' dilemmas. Unfortunately, she can also be rather blunt when it comes to addressing others.

This mixture of empathy and lack of tact makes it difficult for her to form or maintain close relationships, as she tends to cross lines and put undue pressure on touchy subjects.

This habit of hers contributes to an introvert life-style that conflicts with her desire to interact with ponies and have fulfilling relationships.

Her hobbies include horticulture and scholarly pursuits, always eager to learn new things. She particularly enjoys history and literature.

It should also be noted that she can be a bit prideful at times, and can get irritated when somepony challenges her intellect or underestimates what she is capable of.

Prefers to think things through, rather than head into situations recklessly.
Backstory: Gardenia was born into the ranks of nobility in Canterlot, the illegitimate daughter of some duke or the ilk(it can vary depending on the RP in question)

None-the-less, when it became apparent that her father's wife could not bear an heir, she was formally adopted and named heir to the estate when she was a filly.

Due to the circumstances of her birth, Gardenia's father was distant to her, and her step-mother was callous towards her. Her birth mother had given up custody of Gardenia, and the two separated. After all, having her birth mother would just be another reminder of her father's promiscuity.

She found solace at an early age when first visited the royal gardens, and she was given permission to spend her free time there if she wished. Of all the sights and fragrances, she adored the flowers that were her namesake most of all. She learned from the gardeners how to take care of those flowers herself, and in the process gained her mark.

Her formative years in Canterlot consisted mostly of intensive private schooling and spending her free time in the gardens. What friends she managed to accrue over the years were generally driven away by her occasional pointed remark.

As an adult, she had grown restless of the doldrums that was her life. She made it an endeavor to expand her horizons, to try new things, meet new ponies. She had to convince her father that it would be healthier for her to go and learn how to be a self-sufficient adult, rather than to just sit around waiting to inherit the estate, and he yielded that it wouldn't do for her to inherit the money and responsibility without any life experience. And, so, she set off, to stories yet untold...
