longgone

    • Age: 22

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Cutie Mark: A book with two crossed sabers on the cover.

Personality: (Golden Age's character is largely based on the Archaic era of the American Civil War)
Golden Age is generally respectful and always with a small bit of cocky humor, and for the most part full of enthusiasm. He's loyal and brave. Although, he does have a tendency to get cocky towards the ponies he doesn't get along with. Being from Gaeland, he does use words that would seem old fashioned to most.
If one becomes good friends with Golden Age, you will find him to be most caring and understanding. He won't hesitate to lay down his life for his loved ones or friends.

Backstory: Golden Age was born in Gaeland to a middle class family. When he was quite young, his family and him moved to Ponyville.
He excelled in school and after graduating university, enlisted in the Royal Guard. He worked his way up from private to 1st Lieutenant.

Although not born poor, he soon grew a passion for ending it, and he deeply resents anyone who promotes or supports it. He also grew an even stronger distaste for oppression and tyrannical situations. He'll fight it till the day he dies.

As tensions grew between Luna and Celestia, Golden Age grew more and more bitter towards the Celestia. Luna appeared to be mistreated by her older sister, the Princess of the Night promised to bring a reign of equality for all, this appealed to Golden Age.

When the war broke out, he resigned from the Solar Army. He used the money he received from selling his commission to buy a 2nd Lieutenant's commission in the NLR Army. He was eventually promoted to 1st Lieutenant after early battles.

Around the middle of the war, Golden Age's regiment, the 3rd Ponyville Volunteers, was massacred at what he and his soldiers call "Schadenfreude Hill". After his regimetn was routed, the Solar commander chased them off the field and onto a hill. It was there they tried to surrender, but it was refused grimly. The massacre, in which Golden and a handful of others barely survived, still haunts him. Any trashing of Lunar soldiers during the war is sure to wake up a wave of anger and frustration.

After the war, Lunar soldiers were heavily prosecuted. Many high ranking officers and officials were hanged for "high treason". Golden Age was thrown in jail for a year, this is the main reason he has come to have a distaste for Celestia.

As soon as Celestia would allow it, he reentered service in the Solar ranks, not for the Princess, but for Equestria. Within a few years, he worked his way back up to 1st Lieutenant and raised his own regiment, the 9th Ponyville Volunteers.

It was also around this time that foreigners began bringing in primitive firearms: muskets. Celestia was curious if these pieces could make a difference in the field. She soon took a portion of the royal guard and made them into rifle regiments, or simply referred to as Rifles. The 9th Ponyville was one of these regiments to be equipped with the new weapon. Many officers believed they would fail, though they soon proved themselves. Soon more regiments were commissioned and distributed across Equestria.

After the Changeling's attack on Canterlot, a portion of the Solar army was called to "colonize" the Changeling region. By this time, the 3rd and 9th were consolidated into one regiment; replacing the 3rd's spears with muskets. This was due to the 3rd's low numbers.

Golden Age presently has constant nightmares. Although he doesn't openly admit it to most people, due to the fact that he sees it as a sign of cowardice. His hatred for Celestia is can be extreme at times. His hatred for her can sometimes get the best of him. He has been called a traitor, monster, and a merciless being, though all he wants is to be free. (PTSD was not known in the American Civil War, if you had episodes about the war, people just assumed you were a coward and weak)
