Appearance:

A predominantly gray Griffon, asides from a black streak of fur across his head, ears and neckline. His beak is a lighter shade of gray/dulled white along with his front talons and tuft of tail hair. The only true color on his body comes from his vibrant green eyes.

Grovus is almost never seen without his typical mercenary attire: a dark gray hooded cloak, neck scarf, and fingerless gloves that line his talons. A number of similarly colored bands also adorn his body and rear legs, though none know what their exact significance is.

Personality:

Like many Griffons, Grovus emphasizes pride and a greed-driven nature far above that of even the most unscrupulous Ponyfolk of Equestria. Always with his eyes on the prize and what he stands to gain, you'll be hard pressed to find any occasion of him acting out of pure charity. Whilst the promise of wealth or treasure is typically enough to get this Griffon's attention, he is also oddly drawn to the thrill of adventure and particularly dangerous stunts or escapades. Whatever the cause, Grovus plays by his own rules. He has little patience for anyone or anything wasting his time, and will oftentimes not even hesitate to leave clients or companions behind if he feels hindered.

While this may imply Grovus as untrustworthy, few would deny his ability to see a job done. While greed dominates much of his end goals, his prideful nature still yet compels him to protect his reputation as a reliable, if hard-driven, rogue-for-hire. He does not consider himself a mere 'backroom' adventurer, and whilst his own people may have fallen on hard times, still considers a Griffon mercenary to be a cut above the other species one could find. Despite this, he still harbors a bitter resentment towards Griffon-kind for having fallen so far from their glory days, and gives them little to no preferential in his rare interactions with them.

On the surface, Grovus typically displays a snide and self-centered personality, and is quick to throw a witty remark at even serious situations. His only real concerns are if a job was done and if it was done correctly, and ensuring he receives full payment afterwards.

Backstory:

Grovus hails from the Kingdom of Griffonstone, where he spent much of his early years under King Guto, the last King of Griffons. Griffonstone had experienced unparalleled prosperity for many centuries as a result of the Idol of Boreas, a source of great pride for all Griffons, and had led to a great and majestic Kingdom wherein almost every citizen was wealthy and powerful. Grovus himself served proudly in the royal guard, where he later became part of an envoy in direct service to the King, and was frequently tasked with ensuring the stability of Griffon interests elsewhere in Equestria.

This idyllic life came crashing down however, when the Idol of Boreas was lost to a monster attack and fell into an untraversable abyss. Robbed of their source of pride and a keystone to their core beliefs, the majestic Griffon Kingdom quickly fell into shambles. Infighting and mass panic spread swiftly as the shell-shocked Griffons now moved to protect their own assets over the Kingdom, their greed-driven natures rapidly resurfacing and causing a deep psychological backlash that fragmented Griffonstone's society and spiraled it into a state of eternal misery. King Guto was disgraced and his power broken, and Grovus could do nothing but watch as everything he had worked so hard to protect was destroyed. This would instill a lifelong embitterment towards his kind for the Griffon.
