• Java Blend

    Wolfe

    • Age: 31

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Deep, smooth brown eyes. Dark brown coat. His mane extends to the bottom of his neck, displaying a swirl of creamy colors throughout his hair. The same goes for his long tail.

Cutie Mark: A white mug of coffee with white musical notes steaming up from the cup.

Personality: He speaks in a calm and relaxed way, even under tense situations. He is normally intrigued about coffee and jazz, so conversations within those topics bring a more loose and eager Java. He is a bit of an urbane pony to all he encounters; warm to newcomers and amiable to regulars and friends. He remains cool-headed if somepony might give him an attitude or trouble. He is also very efficient at his work, able to manage several tasks within work, which also helps in social situations as well.

Backstory: Java Blend was born in Manehattan. He has an older sister who eventually moved to Canterlot to work for royalty, but he never paid too much attention to it. Growing up, Java was always around the smell of coffee and the sounds of jazz. His father was a jive saxophone player who played in a jazz band with his friends. They called themselves “The Jive Five”. They performed around Manehattan and other venues around New Mane City. Sometimes, his father would leave the city and perform in other far off places.

Java would hear the stories from his dad on the nights when he returned from concerts. He knew when his father would return, so he often made a pot of coffee to keep him awake a bit longer or for him to enjoy the rich taste of the black stew. His skill for coffee grew and Java ended up learning more about different beans, blends, and brews while improving his skill to cook up a good cup of joe for his old man. In due time, he received his cutie mark: a white mug containing coffee, but instead, musical notes steamed out from the top of the mug. He loved making the various seasonings of coffee and had a deep appreciation for jazz as a whole.

Java had decided to open a club in the east side of Manehattan, a few blocks away from the river. However, he hadn’t enough bits to purchase the space for the club and the furnishings inside. His father, however, had left him a gift: A huge sum of bits to cover everything and a bit more. Java was stunned and thanked his father deeply and vowed to owe it all back to him. The first few days of the club were slow and not many showed up. Java was worried about whether the club would stay afloat for much longer without gaining a profit. His father had other ideas. He told his son to have the club ready for Friday night.

The club opened and in came his father, along with 4 other ponies strapped with their instruments. Java Blend understood what was about to happen. The night progressed and many, many people arrived, either from the nights prior or from what his father and The Jive Five had brought in. It was a spectacular night to boost the popularity of “The Brew” and its lifespan within New Mane City. Several years have passed since that momentous night and the club is a hot spot for jazz and smooth jazz, poetry and writing, musical performances, comedy, acting, and of course, coffee. Java has gained enough money to pay back his old man ten times over. Sadly, his father had passed away before he could ever repay him in full. After everyone had left the burial ceremony that one Manehattan afternoon, Java sat down in front of the grave and placed a single mug on the freshly patted ground. Java poured coffee from a thermos to his father and listened to him one last time. Every so often, Java will head to the cemetery and drink one for his old man.
