Joan, Captain Of Nightwatch

Appearance: A pterasus (batpony) of medium height, with the typical amber eyes and purple mane and tail. More muscular than an average mare, due to daily guard excercises.<br />She keeps the lower part of her mane in a pratical braid.<br />When on duty she usually wears the traditional armor of the Nightwatch, complete with the ornate captain's helmet (see pic below).

Cutie Mark: A wide open jade eye,symbolizing her eye for detail and (nearly) eidetic memory (see pic below).<br />

Personality: Well mannered and polite, tends to get cynical when irritated. <br />An enthusiastic reader, Joan is part of several book clubs and usually attending some sort of evening class at Canterlot University.<br />On duty Joan believes in following rules to the letter and expects the ponies under her command to do the same. Despite this, she is well liked among both Day- and Nightwatch.<br /><br />Joan is somewhat of an expert on Equestrian history, a subject which she can (and will) talk about for hours on end, if given the opportunity.<br /><br />Joan has weakness for soppy romance stories, a fact that she desperately tries to keep a secret. She is also irritated at the fact that she can't seem to kick her habit of eating moths.

Backstory: Joan grew up with her parents in a pterasi village in White Tail Wood. Though her childhood was happy, she grew tired of her home and left when she turned seventeen.<br />She ended up in Canterlot, holding a variety of (nocturnal) jobs and attending classes at the university.<br />After the return of Princess Luna, Joan was made captain of the newly reinstated Nightwatch. <br /><br />Though the appointment was mostly due to tradition, most captains of the Luna's guard have been pterasi, she proved a capable organizer and leader, rebuilding Nightwatch with the help of Shining Armor and recruiting other pterasi as well as various volunteers from Daywatch.<br /><br />She lives in the renovated captain´s quarters in the top chamber of one of Canterlot's towers.<br /><br />Joan has recently started going out with Asnee Hoof, an earth pony artisan she met at the Canterlot Garden Ball.
