• Lucky Break

    Randimaxis
    • Age: Young Adult

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Lucky is about average size and build for a pony. He has a gray coat with black socks, and a a black mane and tail. His eyes are a pure sky blue.

His mane is short and neat, but his tail is a bit wild. Otherwise, ha always seems to have some kind of bandage, sling or cast somewhere on him at all times, as he is always getting little sprains, cuts or bumps.

Cutie Mark: A cracked hand mirror with an up-turned horseshoe reflected in it.

The cracked mirror on his cutie mark represents Lucky's horrific luck... but it also features a reflected lucky horseshoe, which shows his penchant for being lucky enough to survive.

Personality: Lucky is always a friendly sort. All smiles and kindness, he is more than pleased to lend a hoof, because it never hurts to help, right? Except in Lucky's case, it ALWAYS hurts to help. Regardless, it does little do dampen his usually chipper (if somewhat shy) mood, nor does it deter him from trying to help... even when it isn't exactly needed.

He has a soft spot in his heart for anypony who is suffering; he can't stand to simply let others deal with their problems on their own, especially if it's obvious they need help. He would shave himself bald if it meant another pony would get what they needed.

As for the bad points, Lucky has very little self-esteem, despite all his smiles and claims to the contrary, and tends to take criticism a little too much to heart. He can also be a bit of a pest, as he's somewhat socially awkward and tend to latch onto new friends fairly tightly.

Backstory: Lucky Break was the second foal of Sly Charmer and Roulette Spin. Born in Las Pegasus, he grew up surrounded by the glitz and glamour of big-city living. His father was a con artist, going from scam to scam and making a mint from it, while his mother tended the roulette table at a local casino. Though he didn't spend many days with them (lots of foalsitters), they would always be certain to spend whatever free time they had on him and his sister, Even Break. They kept a modest home, and were never truly lacking.

As he grew, he tended to be a bit clumsy, and got into a great number of accidents. It seemed like his parents were always having to buy bandages and medicine for him, though they didn't mind - as long as he was okay, they were okay. His sister referred to him as the 'Walking Calamity', and many of his schoolmates would tease him mercilessly about always having some sort of injury to deal with. His sister defended him a number of times, but it didn't stop the teasing when she was away.

One of those who never teased him was the school janitor, who was always seemingly over-worked and tired. Out of nothing more than sheer kindness, Lucky volunteered to help for the week... which ended up in disaster after disaster for Lucky, but each disaster pointed out something else for the janitor to pay attention to, such as the slow leak in the bathroom stalls, or the weak board in the stairs, or the section of border fence that was rotten. All instances that caused Lucky grief, yet all fixes that the janitor hadn't been aware of. By the end of that fateful week, poor Lucky almost looked like a mummy, he had so many bandages on... but the janitor specifically told the faculty that had it not been for Lucky's help, there were a number of small things that could have easily escalated into MUCH bigger issues. With this moment of personal pride and acknowledgement of his sacrifices, Lucky earned his cutie mark.

Unfortunately, it was shortly after this that his father was finally caught, arrested and sent away to prison for his schemes. This devastated his mother, and forced his sister to have to work to help fill the void left by his father's absence. Never one to enjoy being "in the way", Lucky left home in search of any means he could find to get his father pardoned. He hasn't yet found a way to do this, but he is determined to never give up.

Currently, Lucky travels from place to place, looking for ponies in need to assist. Granted, his assistance might leave him in pain... but the help he gives tends to work out for whomever he is helping out, and it seems as if his foibles tend to make things better in the long run.

Time will tell if his luck holds.
