Backstory: Lume was born in a relatively wealthy family in the town of Fillydelphia. During her childhood, she was able to enjoy an easy life, without struggling much, since her father was the mayor of the city at that time - therefore, money was never really a worry. However, despite the always-so-luxurious environment in which she grew up, the wealth of her family never meant to Lume a real reason to boast herself, thanks to good education she received from her parents.

Due to the risks that the streets of Fillydelphia usually offered, Lume’s first contact with the ponies around her age - and away from the coziness of her home - was in her first day of school. Although her youthful years weren’t anything exceptional nor had many extraordinary events, this first contact had been what gradually triggered a set of thoughts that made her into what she is today.

The school Lume was in was a school like any other: nothing too fancy, at the request of her parents, in order to let her grow up in a somewhat more ordinary environment. Lume rapidly showed great interest in studies and very soon felt secure about them. Obstacles such as bullying, drugs, alcohol and other influences were also easily avoided, bringing happiness and relief to her parents. But as the years went by and her knowledge expanded, the mare noticed something that made her, probably for the first time in her life, stop to think. Some of her classmates, teachers and several other ponies that walked by the street had something Lume didn’t have, and that no money in the world could buy: wings and horns.

With her hooves forever stuck on the earth, she convinced herself that the earth pony race was evidently inferior, and that nothing would ever change this fact. After a few months of worries, instabilities, and finally, even depression, Lume organized her thoughts and came to a conclusion: Even though not being able to fly with the pegasi, nor being able to use unicorn magic, that pony would still be completely capable to stand out above any other by nothing more, nothing less than using her knowledge.

From there on, Lume doubled her studies, and dedicated herself almost entirely to the school, always aiming for perfect grades. It didn’t take too long for her cutie mark to show up, evidencing her well-rewarded efforts. Her large and diverse fields of study allowed her to learn, literally, a little bit of everything, with some emphasis on math, her favorite subject.

Nowadays, Lume keeps on studying (even though she doesn’t need to any more) in Fillydelphia, and sometimes gives private lessons to receive her own wage. Since she doesn’t have many friends, she usually spends time with her family (or alone, preferably) and occasionally travels across Equestria to relax a little bit and enjoy life.
