Cutie Mark: His cutie mark is a scroll opening with a magical swoosh, surrounded by a few stars. His talent is spell-writing and magic theory, and his dream has always been to write a spell that lives up to Starswirl the Bearded and the legendary unicorn masters of magic.

Personality: Luminous Scroll ("Lumin" for short) is a brilliant magic-theoretician, and his intelligence is aggressive. Any new information is pounced upon and devoured hungrily. He is keenly aware of the irony of writing spells he will never be able to cast, but tends to deflect the issue with his trademark dry humor rather than confront it directly. Internally, though, he is very frustrated at being born an earth pony, and could be prone to depression if he dwells on the topic too much. Nevertheless, he is usually upbeat and friendly, at least with those he knows well. He is cautious of strangers, due to the teasing he received in school, and is therefore slow to accept ponies, and even slower to trust them.

Backstory: Lumin was born to a unicorn mother, who is a scientist, and an earth-pony father, who was a librarian. His father retired when he was still in school, but his mother has never given up her passion. Although they never expected him to take an interest in magic, they did support him through school. He made a few good friends in school, but they scattered upon graduating and he has for the most part lost track of them. He has some friendly acquaintances, but no one he'd truly call a friend.<br />Lumin has been fascinated by magic all his life. He was one of a very few non-unicorns accepted into Celestia's school of magic, and the only one to graduate. He faced great frustration, and no small amount of teasing, to make it through, but it is now one of his proudest achievements. Since his graduation, he has worked tirelessly on magic theory, deducing what can or cannot be done, writing spells, and so on.
