Appearance: Blue eyes. Brown Coat with Black Mane dyed green. He is big even by earth pony standards and has been since he was young.

Cutie Mark: A horseshoe with vines coiled around it.<br /><br />It represents Malinter's affinity with the Everfree Forest, he has spent years patrolling the forest and as such the creatures within are barely aware of his presence.

Personality: A quiet pony. While he is not a loner by nature his duties rarely permit him talk to people very long and he often spends weeks at a time alone in the Everfree.<br /><br /> He likes to prepare for any eventuality and hates people that do things without thinking.

Backstory: Malinter is a Scout of the Royal Guard and an expert on the nature of the Everfree Forest. Due to his size and the nature of his job he is almost always without armour. Prefering to have a pair of durable saddlebags in which he carries various pots & potions of his own making.<br /><br />He earned his cutie mark after leading a pair of ponies safely from the everfree after they had gone missing. The lost ponies were amazed he managed to find them, they later remarked how it was like he exactly knew where they were.<br /><br /><br />As it was later discovered his talent was a rare form Earth magic that manifests as the ground 'speaking' to him. <br /><br />He can tell what minerals it consists off, detect recent changes to its structure and instinctively avoid sinkholes and pitfalls.<br /><br />He can also detect the presence of others though the round which allows him to avoid potential ambushes my anything using tree cover to hide from his sight.<br /><br />His affinity to the earth naturally lead him to plants and their uses in alchemy. His many walks though the Everfree have taken him to Zecora's door many times. She taught the him basic medicinal uses of the more common herbs and the special traits of the rarer ones.<br /><br />Of particular interest to Malinter was why the beasts of the Everfree seemed to avoid Zecora's home. <br /><br />He believed the various paints she used had special properties and it wasn't just mere symbolism of her pictographs at play, she seemed to like playing mind games with him.<br /><br />Malinter soon learned he wasn't the first pony to use paints and inks to grant properies, though he had his doubts about how effective "camofluage" could be. <br /><br />Regardless, he developed a series of inks which when applied to his skin cause different effects. Some change the colour his coat, others his scent. Some repel certain creatures but attract others.<br /><br />The diverse ecology of the Everfree requires different 'inks' if one plans to stay there or any length of time.<br /><br />
