Noble Persona
By EcstaticWind
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Species: Unicorn
Appearance:
He is of average height and slim build. His mane and tail carry a slightly fluffy style. His mane is reminiscent of Luna’s mane in style, though is short and jet black like his tail. Said tail is kept neat and well-groomed, as well as short for ease of maintenance. His face is often very expressive, allowing him to say a lot through his expressions and facial features alone, without resorting to bluntly spelling it out through words. As a result, he often tries to hide his face and eyes when trying to mask his emotions. His violet eyes tend to be set in a serious and stern gaze, or give off the impression he’s bored. However, when something excites him, they tend to sparkle like amethysts. His smooth, well-maintained coat is a soft lavender colour and silky to the touch.

Cutie Mark:
A heart with a crown above it set against a dark blue shield cracked in half. It is symbolic of his early struggles with determining who he was, and finding the core that balanced his internal conflict: His noble heart.

Personality:
In terms of his personality, Noble is usually serious and tries to temper his emotions with stoicism. He wishes to avoid falling into his old ways of arrogance and egotism, as that brought him nothing but misery and isolation. He is instead a believer in using the power he possesses to try and make things better for those around him, trying to forge connections and give others somepony they can rely on, and potentially combat his own loneliness in the process. However, he does not simply value any friend who comes along. It is his truest friends and companions who are valued above all else.

Backstory:
Noble is the son of a high-ranking Royal Guardspony, aspiring to become like his father. Emulating an idealized version of his father, he took up what he believed was the noble art of swordsmanship. Noting this, his father had him study not just the movements and art, but the codes of honor, morals, ethics and codes of conduct that all knights once learned. Hoping this would deter Noble from seeking out a path like his own, where he’d seen bloodshed that no ordinary pony acknowledged, let alone saw, he nonetheless felt a mixture of pride and dread that Noble dedicated himself to understanding the ways of chivalry. The colt’s understanding of such codes altered and changed over time as he grew old enough to see them in new light and context.

Initially born the eldest of three, Noble was the leader of his brothers and took it upon himself to look out for his younger siblings. However, illness claimed his father and his youngest brother, leaving the colt devastated and aimless. His remaining brother threw himself into what work he had, seeking his own way while Noble and his mother grieved and struggled to figure out what to do. Noble’s growing frustrations at being a Blank Flank just made his already moody disposition worse and he considered running away from home. He would have done it if not for the advice of a friend of his father’s suggesting he join the Royal Guard if he’s so truly lost. Left without any meaningful alternative, Noble decided to try. During the time he spent preparing, he discovered his magical talent, that of enchantments.

Strong for his race and build, Noble proved himself talented and skilled, his well-honed skills shining like a beacon for the recruiters. However, this built resentment in those less fortunate than he was and made Noble grow increasingly arrogant. Becoming overly sure of himself and self-important, he was swiftly disliked among his fellow recruits, many of whom he wound up picking fights with. This, of course, landed him in trouble more than once as his ego and pride became a flaw, rather than a motivator. His ego was further deflated when he graduated from basic training to be given a position in the requisitions office, far from the glory and honor he was looking for in his distorted idealism. But his humbling had only begun.

Within more recent memory, he was temporarily transferred to guard duty during the Summer Sun Celebration, set to take place in the town of Ponyville. What he thought would be a simple guard detail turned into something much less pleasant. He has no recollection of the events during that period, due to being knocked out by Nightmare Moon when Celestia disappeared. This failure was a blow to his ego and pride, only deepening his anger and frustrations.

A year later, he’d find himself on the receiving end of another failure when he encountered the newly-released Discord, who practically slapped Noble in the face with all his failings, his insecurities and fears. This event was what showed Noble how far he’d fallen and his demeanour began to change. Over time after Discord was re-sealed, Noble did some soul-searching and was noticeably quieter for a time. One might even say he was well-behaved. But he’d not get over his encounter with Discord for some time. However, he had begun to discover there was more to his magic than there first appeared.

As his final failure within the guard, he was tasked with assisting Twilight Sparkle in organizing the wedding of Captain Shining Armor to Princess Mi Amore Cadenza. As one of the requisitions officers tracking down materials and supplies her friends required, he felt his role was diminished and that the future of Equestria would be secured by civilians with magic weapons, seeing how the Elements of Harmony were used. As was becoming the norm in times when threats to Equestria began to rear their heads, he was once again knocked out and restrained. This time, it was changelings. By the time he regained consciousness, Canterlot had fallen. Any hope he held for the Royal Guard to actually do something was shattered the moment he saw the light in the tower.

After that event, he left the Guard to become a mercenary, a decision that many questioned as he had been good at organizing things and kept things going smoothly. For him, the decision was easy when he harbored feelings that the guard was useless, taking into account all the conflicts that truly mattered and weighing up wins and losses, finding the Royal Guard lacking in comparison to six civilians with magic weapons shaped like necklaces and tiaras. To that end, he began to hone his own powers, pushing the limits of his enchanting with the knowledge he’d gained from his encounter with Discord earlier the previous year. Fed up with constantly being the butt monkey of Equestria, he decided to strike out on his own rather than seemingly waste his time being a glorified doorstop to be taken down so cheaply every time a villain showed up. He had little, if nothing to do with events for the next several years, as he wasn’t even in the main centres of attention at the time, unaware of Twilight’s coronation, Tirek’s fight with the former Element Bearers or the events regarding one Starlight Glimmer. Instead, he spent his time out in the wild areas, performing various jobs for money and continuing to hone his enchanting skills. During his time away, he finally discovered and accepted his core personality, allowing him to calm the two seemingly disparate sides to his personality, when they were really meant to complement and strengthen one another when tempered with his positive traits. This earned him his Cutie Mark, a late bloomer at the age of 21

Eventually, he returned home to find it drastically changed, with a lot of things different from when he’d left. But the thing that hit him hardest was the disappearance of his remaining brother and his mother’s depression-induced suicide. His humbling was now completed and he reclaimed his family home, as the last known heir to his family. Since then, he has attempted to remain abreast of current events, and seeks out any information he doesn’t know if it seems relevant to the task at hand.
